We are gearing up for our next recording of DF Direct Weekly. No mystery boxes this week, but some news and updates as we head into Easter and as usual we want your questions or comments to read during the show!

This week, Alex, John, and Rich are back to discuss numerous topics. We follow up on the official statement from Sony regarding the PSN store closures, we take a look at Octopath Traveler on XSX as well as Crash 4, we go into details with our Intel Rocket Lake review with Rich taking a look at some benchmarks, and we check out the latest Cyberpunk 2077 patch. Alex and John also talk a bit more about their Game Pass impressions of Nier Automata and their excellent PSVR Doom 3 video.

Add your questions and comments below and we'll get to as many as we can on our next episode!

Do you intend to examine any of the new planetary and lighting technologies in Elite Dangerous Odyssey?

Anonymous

I don't know if you have covered this topic before, but what do you guys think the next psvr headset will have in resolution and hz? The first gen psvr only had a 1080 oled and that was very low resolution when the viewing distance where close.

GhostofWar

If you could get any game made into a movie that hasn't before what would you pick? Alex can't pick Crysis and Rich can't pick crazy frog (1 or 2).

Need to know what to download/preserve before PSN yanks support for PS3/Vita!

AGSMA

Crazy Frog vs. Gummy Bear, which one's the de facto Annoying Thing?

Allan Lindqvist

Rich, how many hours have you put into crazy frog racing now? 200? Also what's your opinion of the DS and gba versions?

DrNro10

Which long-dormant IPs would you like to see revived?

Nvidia released Resizable BAR support for all RTX 3000 GPUs this week. How does BAR improve PC gaming performance and is there a good way to measure the difference once it is enabled?

Do any of you have interest in covering Elite: Dangerous - Odyssey? The tech in it is really impressive, even in this closed beta stage.

W K Snacks

Some of the team have spoken in the past about console face-offs and pixel counting being the "low-hanging fruit" of DF. As we move closer to a potential "post-resolution" age, filled with various upscaling and image-reconstruction techniques, do you foresee a time when the team no longer makes this type of content? What would you like to make instead?

Avery Baker

Can we get our hopes up for a potential DF Retro covering the Banjo and Kazooie series up to where it is today?

The Portugeezer

For some of us that have been following DF for a few years we already now a bit regarding your work backgrounds and what you’ve done before DF, but can I assume there’s new people around that would probably would love to get to know you a bit more. This probably wouldn’t fall under DF videos but something aside, like a “get to know” video for each one of you guys, talking about work/projects you’ve done so far and future endeavours.

Bryan McIntosh

Considering that some retro computing parts are selling for pretty high amounts on eBay these days, is there something that you gave away or trashed/recycled that you really regret now? I know that I am sad that I got rid of my Radeon 9700 Pro, considering how legendary its performance was and what they sell for now on the used market.

If and when Nintendo do release a new Switch 'Pro' i.e. a more powerful Switch, how significantly do you think new games will have to be pared back to run on the original Switch, or is there a possibility that some will be exclusive to the new console?

This question is for John. What are your thoughts on Shadowrun on the Sega Genesis/Megadrive.

Sandy

Would you prefer to have limbs that could always grow back if they were lost but it took 6 months and you'd have little Deadpool hands in the meantime or webbed feet that let you swim four times as fast any other human in water?

Thomas

This is a retro-ish question for all. Having just ordered the Sega Astro City Mini, I’ve been thinking about these mini consoles. What are the next things you guys want to see from a plug and play console? So far the TurboGrafx has impressed me the most with its game selection and overall presentation.

Mubar

The first question mostly applies to Richard and John (however please feel free to refrain from answering if this makes you too emotional Rich, or if it is too personal). 1. Are there any games you fondly remember playing with your respective children? Any bonding moments? Or did they have so little interest in video games that there have not been any opportunities? 2. Give us your favourite games on the PS3, Vita or PSP. Any games you hope to see on PC or ported to modern systems that are still stuck on those systems?

HiToro7

Cyberpunk Multi Player - dead ? Job Postings regarding this where on Project Red job Page. Any inside from the strategic call they just had?

D G

If you had the opportunity to send a game on a probe to be preserved forever in the vacuum of space, or possibly enjoyed by alien life, which one would you choose?

Joe Esposito

No Man's Sky and Fallout 76 are both examples of games that have been fundamentally changed from the state they were in at launch. These changes extend beyond simply fixing bugs or adding content, but actually involve changing the entire feel of the games in certain ways. There are segments of fans for both games that actually miss the launch versions, which were more "empty" but appealed to some people in that state. Is this another case for preservation, when games get changed to a degree that they feel almost remade? Should games like this have a classic mode for people who feel like what they enjoyed originally is now gone?

Josh Donaldson

With Ray Tracing slowly becoming more common in games what do you guys think will be the next big technological leap feature we could expect in the future?

Anonymous

Do Xbox 360/original xbox games look better on the Xbox Series X than on the Xbox One X (better texture filtering for example)?

Anonymous

Hey DF, What are the teams' favourite\preferred gaming engines, and why. - Rob

At which point during your gaming career did you become aware of the PAL/NTSC and 50/60 Hz difference? For those of you who grew up playing PAL games: are there any 50 Hz versions you still prefer playing to this day? Be it nostalgic reasons, preferring the slower pace or any other reason.

Crust33f

When will you release the Video where John, Alex and Audi force Rich to play Crazy Frog Racer? Clockwork Orange Style if need be!

Anonymous

Hey guys, I feel like most of the time movement/traversal is the most important aspect in a game... It's one of the simplest and hardest things to get right. With that said: what's your favourite run cycle (from both of an animation and as a mechanic perspective)?

David Appleseed

Motorstorm Arctic Edge on the Vita (PSP game, on the European PSN store but not the US one last time I checked)

Soban

where can i find more about the switch revision firmware info by the atmosphere os devs that you mentioned a couple weeks back?

Yotsuya

Do you think we'll see FPS Boost added to back compat titles? I'd love to see it in Red Dead Redemption 1, Asura's Wrath and Crimson Skies for example.

Anonymous

Not a question, but I’d like to see you guys discuss the PS5’s HDR container shenanigans.

Anonymous

How viable do you think GTX 1060 is gonna be in the coming years? Because the GPU availability is not improving and has no signs of improving. I'm not paying for the GPU more than its MSRP.

Nolasco

Hi guys, happy to be a new Patreon, you manage to take my patreon virginity...... Congratulations 🎊 I am wondering if you can give me some understanding on how the save files from the ps4 work on the same upgraded games on Ps5 (The ps5 versions) do they work or do I have to do it all over again on the ps5 versions. Thank you for your hard work and stay safe 💕

Sonicx9

Can you explain what was the thing that ruined the Google Stadia version of Red Dead Redemption 2 resolution/framerate was it Linux OS or the cloud streaming limitations considering the Google Stadia has 10.7 Teraflops of power?

Frank

It feels like over the years, developers have thankfully started paying more attention to better performance and optimization, especially on console. How do you experience this change, and how much impact do you think yourselves had on this? Keep up the great work.
