Hello everyone! Today we wanna run a few ideas by you loyal supporters and help make our revamp the best it can be! The poll has a range of options, all of which are ideas we plan on including to the Patreon feed moving forward. Don't worry if you wanted to select more than one option, we just want to know what you wanna see most so that we can get to work on the content you want to see right away, but we will over time do videos regarding all these topics.

Read the descriptions below, choose what interests you most and of course share with us your thoughts, opinions and even ideas in the comments section. Every single voice counts so we hope many of you share your thoughts with us. And What's in the Box, Rich will return so we did not list this as it would get 100% of the votes.

DF Sidetracked: A show where members of the DF gang come together to discuss things unrelated to the gaming. A random talk about a recent movie, their favorite sport, Star Trek, Rich’s love for electric cars, the range of topics can be wide and varied.

Tech Focus: A continuation from the series found on our Youtube channel, this show is based around deep dives into specific rendering techniques, engines and everything else under the hood to power some of your favorite games today and in the past.

Time Capsule: A show where we take a specific game and run it under time appropriate specs, looking into how the games ran at the time.

Magazine Memories: A trip back in time with Rich and the crew doing read-a-longs on issues from the various magazines he worked on at the time, discussing the news, reviews and gaming culture at the time of publication.

Behind the scenes: Various videos showcasing how our videos come together. From topics such as frame rate analysis tools to editing tricks and everything in between.

Interview & sitdowns: Long form sit down talks with other content creators and gaming industry personalities that doesn’t fit the format on the Youtube channel. Examples would be Modern Vintage Gamer, Mike Chi, My Life in Gaming etc.

DF Retro Pick-Ups: A show where John & Audi discuss their various game purchases, discuss the games themselves, box art, reasons they picked them up.

DF TechTalk: A show where the DF crew gets together to discuss new TV technology, sound system setups and everything related to consumer electronics and gadgets.

Setup Showcase: Short videos showcasing how we set-up our working spaces, collections, storing devices and what is in all of those boxes in Audi's office.

Voted Tech Focus, but quite frankly - all of items listed sounds super interesting. Keep up the good work guys :)

Stephan

Am I the only one that wishes there was an option "Modern games on CRTs"?

Anonymous

I started follow you for the Tech Focus stuff. That is still the case for me.

Sandy

The things I'd like to see the most are apparently the things everyone else would like to see the least :) I'd also like a dedicated "Would you rather..." section.

Doc

What about a retro tech focus ?

Anonymous

As an added extra I love the behind the scenes content but more tech stuff would also be great. Keep up the fantastic work guys.

SpectR0nn

At first I voted on basically everything, because it all sounds great, but since you'd rather hear what I like to see the most, I stripped it down a little bit, though that still leaves quite a few of the options.

1040STF

I voted for DF Retro Pick-ups, DF Sidetracked and Magazines and memories : I would love to watch that. But others are all interesting ! ... I just have a doubt on one : "Interview & sitdowns". It seems to me you're already doing that during livestreams with guests. But if you have a more specific idea in mind, I'm in :-)

MrBurns

They all sound great! I have voted for tech talk. Maybe you could also invite Vincent Teoh or Evilboris.

Shithauser

I'd watch all of the above but I think Tech Focus & Techtalk would be the most interesting for me personally.

Kris Graney

I definitely agree. I would like to see Alex show off his Gateway Vivitron monitor so I can compare with mine. Selfish, I know.

Kris Graney

I would love to have seen this as a rated option, as there are options there that I'd also like to see as well as what I picked. I'd like to get to know the team better, such as it was interesting to hear Tom's background is writing but moved in to video production, and similarly how Alex joined the team by doing a Crysis analysis video. I'd also like to see more of their individual set ups, I think we have seen the most of John's setup due to his retro videos.

andre surles

Dev Kits! What’s really in the box...

Chungo

Should I even have voted, all of the above sound like something I'd enjoy watching.

I chose Magazine Memories because having Rich puts DF in a unique position to even do such a thing in the first place. I love the retro stuff, but it seems silly to have it segmented so much when Rich has decades of history and stories that only he can tell.

I started watching because of the platform comparisons for triple a games. And learned to listen after I bought bayonetta for ps3... Still looking for that although I stream all my triple A games now (cyberpunk/resident evil 8) Been in the market for a pc for years but the markets never been nice to me. I really support the analysis and honesty of the team and definitely appreciate them more since they have such a strong value for art direction and hardware limitations (switch)

Hard to not click everything... Tech Focus always leaves me hungry for more -- I also think there is an opportunity for that to be content you can link back to as a refresher when anything relevant comes up in other videos. BTS content would be great -- as someone who has worked in video production for over a decade there's steps in your workflow (given unique content) I am super curious about haha Magazine flashbacks would be such a lovely background to how far everything has come!!

I love the time capsule esque stuff. My first major forays into the PC space were on a PC with a Riva 128, which didn't have full DX compatibility, and I got some weird results with certain titles, like Half Life (until it got a patch or two, you'd regularly clip right out of the train in on a rail) and Alien vs Predator where the various vision modes were all messed up. I love taking a look back at stuff like that!

Vlad

Tech Focus and Time Capsule top the list for me!

DEX7ER_M0RGAN

I'd love to see more of the TechFocus to learn more fascinating insights into certain rendering techniques and TechTalk for DF-approved advice on gaming and multimedia hardware. Obviously, I'm interested in anything you put out. Please don't forget to include all videos on digitalfoundry.net for download!

I really love all the retro stuff and would love to see more of it. To have ”Magazine memories” with stories from the old days with Richard sounds amazing. Thanks for everything you deliver already and keep up the great job <3 .

Joe Esposito

There are no bad options here honestly.

Simplex

I would be happy with more VR coverage - a review of Oculus Quest 2, its ability to wirlelessy stream PC VR games using Virtual Desktop. A review of HP Reverb G2, Valve Index, VR games such as Asgard's Wrath, or Lone Echo (or some newer stuff).

Erik Kelly

There's something so appealing to me about reading through old Fry's ads from the mid-1990s or even the Toys R Us Christmas catalog - my vote has to be for Magazine Memories. It's a revelation to recall that SNES games cost the same in 1995 as current games do! It's also bittersweet to read through old industry magazines and realize just how much time has passed.

All of these are great ideas. however, these, as the youtube channel in a way, run into danger of diluting the focus of the channel imho. i want to see most of them, but already, expecially on the channel, i'm often skipping videos or having a hard time making out if the contents are what i expect them to be. i check the channel for notifications, then go grab the master, so even if i rarely watch on youtube, i still use it as the main stay-up-to-date method on videos. My suggestion, independent of the results of the poll, is to also try to work out a more coherent scheme clearly detailing different content focuses. The "series" titles are kind of not enough, i think you should also put some thought into differentiating thumbnails. right now, your thumbnail style is the same for all series, and while it's iconic with the font and all, if any of these get added, it will make sorting content visually very hard for the audience, expecially on mobile where text is not really prominent on the youtube app interface. Part of that issue is also video length. Most of the content i skip i would gladly watch regardless if not for its length. generally, i can't afford more than 30 minutes and if i need to personally chunk that up, i end up not bothering at all, unless i'm really interested in the subject of the day. trying to keep the timestamp down and split long videos, even as a backer-exclusive or second channel kinda thing (stuff like streams, or DF talks), would be much easier within a more explicit visual index. Also, i would not want the quality to get a bit diluted because you guys get overworked. I think depending on how it goes and which content gets selected, expecially if it's long form, it could be a good idea to further consider different patreon tiers. Expecially for content like Tech Focus or long form interviews, i value quality of research and production more than a regular timeline, but that's exactly where it becomes harder to justify the amount of time needed to actually produce such a series. If anything, i would not mind if several of those series would be off-schedule by default, but after enough has been produced also with the help of our subscription, they would eventually be repackaged and published for free on the channel to fill content droughts within the game industry release cycle. If the numbers check out, it could be a good way for everyone to get more of what they love, and make it affordable to all sides at the same time!

New Moon

They all look viable to me but the two that stick out the most are the tech focused ones, talk/tech, sit down, interviews, and I miss Richard, so more of his thoughts on current events please. I know John prefers retro content and so has his retro series to go to but I'd love nothing more than to see Alex get his own PC concentric series. Times are changing and for Digital Foundry, this is a huge area of growth opportunity going forward. I play on PC, yet watch all the console content to stay informed. PC is seriously missing this sort of coverage...

Dan Matte

I would like to give Digital Foundry more money through Patreon, but I personally don't value any of these things anywhere near as much as covering games. Could we possibly help fund you guys to increase or at least maintain coverage of all the usual games that come out? A bit worried that all these other efforts ultimately take away bandwidth from covering games :/ Again, happy to pay you guys more just to do more of what you've always done!

AGSMA

I love the idea of the Magazine Memories series. I want to hear more about Richard's early years. DF Sidetracked and interviews with other gaming-related channels are also welcome additions.

Anonymous

I'm into the idea of DF Sidetracked, always think it's cool for people to get stuck into the things that get them excited. Could use "EVs: Not Just for Rich" in my life

Container7

I love the idea of hearing more from Richard's recollections from his days in the world of Video Game Magazines.

D G

An Indie Spotlight show where DF talks to small developers would be great. I love that video you guys did on 'Blazing Chrome' for example. So having access to more interview content that didn't make it into a show like that would be interesting as a Patreon perk.

zeppelin03

I hope the retro pickups gains steam. I always enjoy the stories about the games. Tech talk would be helpful as well. Learning about setups for enjoying these game. I've been tinkering with my settings for years and it's always helpful to get more insights.

Nathan Lake

These are all good ideas. Difficult to choose. Hopefully you can find ways to incorporate them all into DF weekly or patreon bonus content!

It might be a chore, but I'd like to see poorly-performing games be eventually revisited in a short basic video to get kind of a final judgement on the performance after patches. I'm thinking about things like Bloodstained Switch which seems to have hugely improved since it was first released.

TheBanditKing

All of the above (except the side tracked) would be welcome. I feel there are more then enough content platforms where the hosts share (overshare?) about their personal life interests. I would prefer if DF did not do that. I would like to see this channel remain laser focused on gaming and we already can get a good bit of information about who/how you guys are from the games you like. thats my .02

Art Vandelay

I know that this content is supposed to be in addition to the usual games coverage and I'd actually love to see deeper dives in the underlying tech that drives videogames both software and hardware-wise. But, I don't want to see DF steering away from consoles face-offs. Look, I know it can get toxic. I know this kind of content attracts all kinds of dumb f*s and their infantile comments. But this is DF's bread and butter, this is the stuff people live and die for. And apart from the usual idiots, it's FUN. Ignore the noise.

Colin Kraebel

I would love updated Behind the scenes content. It has been years since the previous video series.

Benjamin Jennings

Some of these could be cool incorporated into the main podcast. I know the IGN gamescoop podcast does something similar to magazine memories as a segment occasionally.

Evocarti

I enjoy when you guys do breakdowns of how technology works. It would be cool if you did one for Engines (how assets are created, imported, controls added, rendering setup, play tested)

Noah Pancratz

It'd love to see some content focused on the homebrew and mod communities. I'd also love to see you guys select and build a gaming or media editing rig.
