When do you think we will see a fully path traced crazy frog game with the annoying thing properly released on pc?

jenesuispasbavard

Back in 2007 Mass Effect literally changed my perspective on the kind of stories games could convey; it was a revelation. I just had to lean back and process what had just happened while the credits rolled (stellar credits track btw - I still listen to it from time to time and it takes me back every time). What games for y'all had the same effect (heh) - a revelation in terms of what games as a medium can provide?

What game have you the most played hours on?

Now that the new generation of consoles exist with ray-tracing support when do you expect the developers will drop support for PC GPUs that aren't capable of hardware ray tracing? Like Nvidia GTX 1000 and below or AMD RX 5000 and below. I hear it's already happening with the next-gen upgrade for Metro: Exodus.

Sandy

Would you rather be able to smell buried gold (both ore and buried treasure oh-arr) or have it so every food you ate going forward tasted amazing?

In your opinion - is path/ray tracing still in a chicken and egg position? Sure we have seen apps make use of ray tracing, but the developers still needs to do a “rasterised light” version of the same app. And what would be - in your opinion - the necessary things to happen for the whole industry to shift to path/ray tracing....and would it even be a desired path? Please know I am blown away by the potential of path/ray tracing and is not asking out of dislike for the tech.

Hey DF Team (not a PS5 question though), Do you think that the new Forza Motorsport Game, would be the first Next-Gen title on Series X, that might be the "most optimized" game so far (at least for the Series X)? or is this only wishful thinking on my side? Cheers

How strong of a presence in video game marketing does the classic "bullshot" still have? Are screenshots touched-up and doctored less now and why?

kate

When was the name Digital Foundry originally created? What was the inspiration for it?

Is it concerning that we are not getting native 4K 60 games even this early in the gen without current gen updates? I unfortunately can clearly tell the difference between 1440p and 1800+ even with modern techniques. Thanks!

Hi DF, Really enjoying the DF Directs. Keep them coming, and keep up the good work! We saw techniques like dynamic resolution scaling, temporal anti-aliasing and temporal upsamping used extensively as we approached the end of last-gen. As we move into the current-gen proper, which newer graphical / performance-saving techniques do you wish to see adopted by developers? Regards, Liam

Nolasco

Hi guys, hope you are doing well. I was wondering if you ever think expensive technology in games is to much of a must for some developers, pushing Ray tracing, 4k to the expense of good performence? Me personally was expecting 60fps minimum on last gen and now we have 60 when i was hoping for 120. Is it that hard for developers to take it down a bit, take 2k instead of 4k, ease up on Ray tracing and boost performence or do you think the problem lies with us consumers that expect the best graphics all the time? Thank you for your time and hard work. Stay safe 💕

Hey Team DF. With the PS3 and Vita storefronts closing, everyone has been going into panic mode stockpiling their games for these platforms (myself included). The newest development seems to be that some games are now losing the ability to download patches, effectively rendering any uninstalled games to ver 1.0 status, though it is not yet clear whether this is intentional or not. With this in mind, would each of you have a top 2 or 3 games for ps3 or Vita that should be gotten and installed to avoid them being lost to unpatched purgatory? Thanks guys, you're doing the lord's work :)

KiMoSaBi

Hi DF team, I love the content you are producing and the increased interaction! I'm curious about the work history you've all had to get to where you are now. In particular John's as I've heard you used to be in the automotive industry.

Hi guys, love all you do! I'd like to thank you particularly for pointing out the advantages of CRTs and the specific technical reasons why. I always gamed on a CRT until I got a console in mid 2000s and when I went back to PC gaming it just didn't feel the same and, like John, found myself just not playing the fps shooters I used to love back in the day. It wasn't something I could put my finger on until you pointed out the technical reasons such as sample and hold and motion resolution etc. I thought it was just me getting old! I've no idea why this has not been picked up on until now and wasn't more of a thing at the time! Anyway my main question maybe for the DF weekly if you can fit it in, what are your thoughts on the possibility of new TV tech emerging ie mini LED, Micro LED etc possibly equalling the motion resolution of CRTs in the future and moving on from sample and hold tech? I've got one nice CRT now and wondering if I need buy another as a backup before prices get even higher!

As a new Mortal Kombat movie is about to release this week, what are your favorite movies adapted from a video game ? For good reasons... or bad reasons (guilty pleasures accepted 😄). And which one is the most faithful according to you ?

Anders Lønning

While I know that you want to avoid direct comparisons between systems, I kind of had a hard time from watching both videos, parsing out which version of Crysis Remastered came out on top. If Alex or John were to choose one version to play based on their findings, would you go for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X?

TheBanditKing

Hey guys. in the PS3 stream/play that you did there was a mention of Balan Wonderworld. John seemed to be in the "enjoys it" camp and I'd really like to explore that a bit more. I'm a fan of Yuji Naka's game (faults and all) but given how terrible this new game has reviewed have written it off until I heard John mention it in a positive light. Id really like to see something (even if small) done on it to get a more honest opinion of the game. Thanks

Even it the worst of times (PS360 era), Sony had been able to stay competitive mostly thanks to their strength in the japanese market. Recent business decisions make it seem like we're going to see somewhat of a remake of that generation with a vulnerable Sony vs. an aggressive Microsoft, but it's hard to overstate how irrelevant the Xbox brand is in Japan. Do you guys think this can change? Can the console war be won without Japan?

Chungo

Heyo Do you guys have any idea what's taking so long with VRR support on ps5? I'm not sure I've ever heard of a faulty implementation of vrr so what would that even be like.

Art Vandelay

We need to talk about VRR on the PS5. Where is it? I get that this is a niche feature since very few people have the display to match, but it's a killer one.

DF Question: Is it possible to stream AI, weather and other tasks in from the cloud to free up local processing power?

Anonymous

At this moment of writing we are having a discussion in the discord around accessability in games and how that should look. So my question is what is your view on accessability features within games and how should they look / be in video games? Should games be designed around accessabilty features, Should players have the option to dynamically change difficulty, etc. In the end its an interesting subject with many different fascets to it and im interested in seeing what you guys think.

Joe Esposito

You each have the option to shove the Crazy Frog into one of the following death traps: Wood chipper Blast furnace The Sarlacc from Star Wars Bruce the shark from Jaws Which method do you choose and why? Feel free to add your own personal death trap to the list.

DF Question: with Sony announcing a greater focus on big budget, more cinematic games akin to their western studios' works, will this be an "adapt or die" kind of situation for Japan Studio? Polyphony Digital might not be affected by this shift due to their focus on the Gran Turismo series, but should we expect a death of "quirky" first-party games from this point forward? On a slightly different note, should we expect more third party studios handling Sony's "quirky" and non-cinematic IPs, like what Sumo Digital has been doing with the LittleBigPlanet series?

Ali Almutawa

with PSN store closing on old consoles. Do you think GOTY and/or the Complete editions of the game will have more value than the first print black label?

How do you view frame time / FPS graph software such as Rivatuner for PC games? Are they accurate compared to the professional set up that you use to capture this data from HDMI feeds? Any other recommendations for software for measuring PC game performance?

Anonymous

This might be best for Alex to answer! SO in some games that have ray tracing like Cyberpunk you have standard lighting effects and ray traced lighting effects like shadows and reflections. You can turn ray traced shadows and reflections on and still have the standard effect still turned on. That in mind, would having ray traced shadows and reflections turned on and rasterized shadows and SSR turned off or to low be a good option for budget ray tracing GPUs? I tried it and got quite the performance boost but I'm not sure if I'm missing some image quality with those effects turned off. What do you guys think? Maybe a future deep dive video or optimized settings video?

Christian Büschel

Hey! Do you fell that the 3060ti/3070 have enough Vram? In the Computerbase review of the 3060, the 3070 has significantly worse frametimes then the 3060 even at 1080p in COD Black Ops RTX. There is also Benchmarks (from PCGamesHardware) where the 3070 has huge Vram related performance problems in Youngblood RTX and Minecraft RTX at WHQD + DLSS. With ResizeBar and RTX demanding even more Vram could the 3070 age worse than the 2080ti despite being newer? Is there a way for nVidia to mitigate this?

What was the bottleneck of the Google Stadia Linux OS or something else?

I went on a bit of a DF E3 conference bender this week, watching them all again and finishing up on DS/PSP, which of course led me to order new parts and fire it up again. John would you consider doing a video for the PSP like you did for PS3 games recently? I think I missed some gems due to narrow tastes at the time. Aside: I loved John and Richard's chat about it being the pre-iPhone all-in-one... it was a uni device for me as I spent 2-3hrs a day on trains back and forth and I would encode the latest episodes of TV and movies (worked at a video store -- RIP), endlessly used as an MP3 player... had a radio tuner for the car. It remains the gaming device I've gotten the most excitement and joy from, because of its unique timing and feature set. Sure, phones do all the same things but touch controls suuuuuck.

Hello. Thank you for making amazing content for free for everyone to watch. I have a question regarding the transfer feature and games with PS5 specific patch (like Ghost of Tsushima & Ratchet and Clank). Games with PS5 specific patches doesn't seem to run at the "upgraded" visual enhancements provided by PS5 patches when running the game from external hard disk. Is there any specific reason for this to happen? I thought the issue with the games were having to do with not having enough CPU/GPU power and not the HDD. Seems like a weird downgrade if you want to move the PS4 titles to external.

Allan Lindqvist

Do you have any "guilty games", games that you shouldn't like but actually do? Like crazy frog for Rich or an open world, collect quest heavy crafting game with lootboxes that's streaming only for John.

Kevin Dickson

Do you think the when Nintendo next give us a big update on their next AAA game it will co-incide with the Switch Pro release date. If BotW 2 and Metroid Prime 4 it would certainly make me think.

Pol Kallamata

Given that TLOU was initially released on hardware that is two generations old, what areas specifically do you anticipate the remake to benefit from using newer more advanced graphical techniques?

Kris Graney

Hi. Now that the PS5 and Series consoles are now current-gen, with key features being very high speed storage, high-fps and ray-tracing. Looking 5-7 years ahead in to your crystal balls (or Crazy Frog's eyes?!?), what do you think will be the key features for next gen consoles?

Conor Costello

Are there any plans to release some of the shows in podcast form? Sometimes I want to listen to some of the interviews, retros, and DF directs while out walking, but YouTube doesn’t allow the video to play when the screen is locked.

Seems like my question just got topical with Square-Enix acquisition rumors... Acquisitions being one thing Microsoft stopped short of in their japanese 360 push so maybe they've learned their lesson and are going all-in this time?
