The oner hallway fights are definitely a trope of Daredevil based shows. Of the oner fights, I enjoyed season 1's the most, this one is probably number 4 of the oners. There's also a "hallway" fight later in the season with cuts that I think is better than this one that has oners. Just my opinion.

One of the best conversations between two people in Marvel. You are also correct their convictions are so strong and they can't see each other point of view. I do think some people deserve to die but it is mostly the extreme cases with horrific acts against innocents with no remorse. But I would never be the one doing the killing. Grotto did something bad but he at least showed some kind of guilt. Did he deserve to die. Maybe. Maybe not. Punisher is a little too extreme and Matt is a little too naive. Matt's code prevented him from even killing Frank to save Grotto. There is sweet spot somewhere in between their ideologies. Fun Easteregg with Claire talking about helping Luke without saying his name (the reason she is got in trouble)

The conversation between Frank and Matt is definitely the highlight of the episode. Ultimately it makes me feel that Matt is in denial about himself - he seems to be of the opinion that because he doesn't kill his victims that somehow makes what he does OK, yet he's perfectly fine with giving people life-changing injuries, or even injuring them to the extent that they are in a coma and probably won't wake up. Is he better than Frank? Probably, but not by much, and given Frank is a serial killer that's pretty damning. Whether Frank is aware of who he himself is is harder to judge - at the moment we see that he believes he's necessary (which is of course also part of Matt's justification), but it's unclear if he has even thought about the moral aspect.

Small fun fact, but a lot of the rooftop scene with Matt being chained up is taken from The Punisher comics run written by Garth Ennis who you may also know as the creator of The Boys.

Pretty sure this is where the "tie me up and talk dirty to me" kink started 😂😂😂 All right, here it is, the episode that really makes you question every moral you've ever had or thought you had. I love the distinction Punisher makes between him and Daredevil: "I think that you know you're just one bad day away from being me." What's interesting is Joker made a similar distinction between himself and Batman: "All it takes is just one bad day to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy." So where's the line between Punisher and Joker? Punisher kills out of grief, to make sure no one else suffers like he did, to put the bad people of the world down before more get hurt. He believes in the one-strike policy. Joker kills because it's fun and because he loves the chaos. Two very different people with the same outlook. One bad day. I'd love to see Punisher and Joker have a conversation, though that might be a very short conversation considering Frank's short-fuse anger. Punisher made a good point with Grotto. Just because Matt doesn't outright kill anybody doesn't mean he isn't still responsible. The people he goes after get back up, go right back to doing what they do, assuming their boss doesn't kill them for failing, and they go right back to what they're paid to do. Matt wants to believe in appealing to the good nature deep inside someone but Punisher's right that not everyone has that good nature. You might be willing to show them mercy but that doesn't mean they would ever do the same. There's only so many second chances you can grant someone before they make it clear that they won't change. And in those times, how many died that could have lived had those bad people been put down in the first place? It's an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object. What happens when both refuse to give in to the other? I'll get into more about Punisher once you see a little bit more about his past but for now, love the conversation and debate that's been started. I think Foggy isn't necessarily crushing on Claire, he's just attracted to strong female figures that don't wait around for someone to take care of them, they take control and figure things out themselves. Claire is definitely that type of person. If she can look a violent gang member in the eye and say "you're down to two fingers and it's your fault so don't blame us", you know she's got guts. There used to be a show on that seems like it only lasted three seasons and it was called Code Black. Basically it dealt with the busiest hospital in the nation or something like that where they're constantly running out of resources and what they have to do nightly and that kind of thing. The hospital being filled with those gang members reminded me of that show a little bit where it's just constant chaos and people getting agitated because they need care and they're not getting care or they want out and they want to get back to what they were doing and such and such. I cannot imagine working in an environment like that. Healthcare workers just don't get enough respect. Adding the gang element on top of all that, big city nurses and doctors that have to deal with those kind of people in the real world, nothing but respect for you. I sure as hell couldn't do it. Hell I get nervous when a drunk or a tweaker walks into the lobby of the hotel, much less a room full of trigger-finger gang members from opposing sides at War in one room. That actually brings me to my next point (I guess I inherited the Beat Around the Bush Syndrome from my father 😂) is that foggy has had incredible character development. The first season he was this unassuming guy who basically couldn't exist without his best friend. Now he's taking charge and talking down two gang members ready to carve each other up. Is it the fact that his best friend is daredevil? Is that what gave him courage? Or is he just sick of everybody's shit and let the annoyance do the talking? Either way I'm glad to see him becoming his own person rather than leaning on Matt so much. I'd be interested to hear what you believe, Kaiielle, as far as the death penalty and that kind of thing. Instead of "must there be a Superman", must there be a Punisher?

Thadman

I'm guessing you've remembered by now how/when Claire met Luke? Oh, how quickly we forget. 😁

Ha! This was the episode that made me go a) "Thank you! Thank fuck someone is finally calling Matt on some of his bullshit!" (I LOVE THIS SEASON) and b) did not make me question my morals. Oops. Team Frank. All the way.

Rat MacKay

That rooftop scene is one of the best acted arguments ever. They're fighting the way REAL people fight...where you shout over each other and may not even hear what the other person is saying. I may have said this before, but...I was raised by a Marine...my dad raised me to believe that a good Marine (and a good man)'s place was between the threat and the threatened and to eliminate the threat as effectively and efficiently as possible. To Frank, criminals = the threat and the innocents of NYC = the threatened. Is locking criminals up knowing that they'll get back out eliminating the threat? Nah. It's ineffective and inefficient. Do something right the first time and you don't need to do it again. I also have lost multiple family members to murder and they were all repeat offenders, so...yeah, I don't have a whole lot of faith in the justice system...the wrong people get locked up for life while others are heading in and out of the revolving door. That's not to say that I want everyone going out there and deciding to go full Punisher mode...because clearly he does his research and the bulk of our society can't take 2 seconds to fact check something before hitting "share", so I don't want them playing judge, jury, and executioner...no thanks! But, for the purpose of a fictional story... I'm Team Frank all the way.

Nathan Jasper

I agree, the justice system is an absolute joke. Revolving door is a good way of putting it, it's absolutely true. Rapists get a couple months and they're right back out there hurting someone else, abusers get a night in the drunk tank and right back home to hit on their spouse and kids some more. Criminals with enough money and pull can get their case thrown out. It's absolutely disgusting. I'm so sorry you lost people to the failure of a system. Sometimes it would be nice to have someone like Punisher but you're absolutely right about people, they wouldn't do their research. If people can't research an area they're vacationing to, they sure as hell aren't going to research somebody they think is guilty. More than likely it'll be like in Jessica Jones where the four people from the support group listen to One manic lady and go beat up somebody that's actually trying to help. Or worse, kill someone that's accused of something they didn't do. I love the conversation we're getting in the comments this season and we're just in the first quarter.

Nathan Jasper

You're one of the good ones, Rat. I wish more people were firm in their beliefs like you are. Too many people say they believe something and then do the exact opposite. Respect.

Rat MacKay

The important thing is to not get so firm in your beliefs that you become incapable of change and adapting to new information. Luckily, my brain is a computer and auto-updates, lol.

Rat MacKay

Yeah, pretty much every system (or lack thereof) will fail because they all depend on people...who are, by our mere humanity, flawed. I'm okay with that...because the alternative is a system where a computer decides who gets punished and who doesn't.... if you've ever worked somewhere with an automated disciplinary system then you already know that's no solution either because a computer will not take factors into account outside of numbers...doesn't understand mental health, crimes of passion, extenuating circumstances, intent... So the system we have is the system we have...where some of my tax dollars go to feed, clothe, and house the very people who killed my relatives. So, yeah, I understand Frank's way of handling shit...just only works in a fictional world. But, yeah.. this season definitely makes for some good opportunities for conversations.

Rat MacKay

Me again...because I can't believe I forgot it...I can put up with Matt calling Frank unhinged, etc. but I RAGE when he does his little "who did you lose? WELL BOO-HOO" bullshit. Frank is a better man than I...because I would have, at minimum, slapped the taste out of his mouth for being that callous about the loss of my loved ones. Dick move, Red. Total dick move.
