Hello there! This reaction is available as part of my "Try Before You Buy" reaction videos here on Patreon. For the TV series that I react to, I give the first episode out for free so you can experience it with me and see if you're up for joining us to continue! You must have your own copy of the episodes to watchalong as I do blur the episodes and have the audio muted. There is 60 seconds of syncing time at the start of the episode. I am not allowed to distribute the entire episodes in my videos, as this is illegal. Thank you for watching along with me!

Hi everyone! It is time to finally watch the critically acclaimed CHERNOBYL! I knew that I knew Jared Harris from somewhere.. of course, The Expanse! Anderson Dawes. Great performance in that show, so I'm eager to see his performance here, and also excited in general that there are a few actors that I know.

This was a super tense episode for me, but I'm eager to continue! Please enjoy my reaction to the first episode and I'm looking forward to your comments! [Direct link here.]

Oooh I'm sure a rewatch after so many years is gonna be great! And thank you! 🙏🏻

Death Lego

I've watched this series about 3-4 times. I might purchase the batch later on, like I did with Kenobi.

Can't wait to dive into this. Loved it and watched more reactions than I want to admit

Sweet. This show is soooo good, but soooo heavy. Some characters are so hateful but performed so well. The score as well, so haunting. Can’t wait for the rest. It’ll be emotional.

From what I have read and seen, this show is about 90% accurate in terms of the facts. Obviously, there is some dramatization to streamline and condense events, but it is really accurate. Just so you understand how authentic this is, whenever you see a TV report or any recorded conversation that is played in Russian, those are the actual TV reports and recordings they are playing.

Just saw your reaction…good stuff. I forgot how haunting the musical score was for this show. Not a spoiler but I just remembered that there is an episode you’re not going to be able to handle 😬

I would say 50% tops, from this episode alone there are so many inaccuracies that this is way closer to fiction than fact. Some examples: 1. The "Bridge of Death" Myth The episode depicts a crowd gathering on a bridge in Pripyat to watch the reactor fire, with the implication that all present died from radiation exposure. In reality, while some residents did go to the bridge, there's no evidence that all of them died or received lethal doses of radiation. This "Bridge of Death" narrative is largely considered an urban myth. 2. Helicopter Crash Due to Radiation The series shows a helicopter crashing while attempting to fly over the reactor, suggesting that intense radiation caused its electronics to fail. While radiation did cause interference with electronics, the crash depicted in the series did not occur immediately after the explosion. 3. Zharkov's Character and Actions The character of Zharkov, an elderly Bolshevik who orders the cutting of phone lines and suppression of information, is fictional. There's no historical evidence of such an individual or such actions during the early response to the disaster. 4. Radiation Contagion Misconception In the episode, Lyudmilla Ignatenko is shown being warned not to approach her husband due to radiation exposure. In reality, once contaminated individuals were decontaminated, they posed no radiation risk to others. The isolation was primarily to protect the severely weakened immune systems of the affected individuals. 5. Immediate Deaths from Radiation Exposure The series portrays several individuals dying instantly from radiation exposure. While some first responders did succumb to acute radiation syndrome, most did not die immediately. The majority of deaths occurred over the following weeks and months, not instantly as depicted.

Nice way to share spoliers.

Great reaction. Intense for you. Understandably. I was a chemical engineering student in college in 1986 and understood the general significance of what was happening at Chernobyl. Terrifying. Interestingly, radiation is not a chemical attack. Instead, radiation is considered a physical phenomenon = involves the release of energy in the form of radiation particles, not the introduction of a chemical substance like in a chemical attack.

That's what makes it so scary, too. Can't see it. Just an invisible attack.

I was in grade school California USA when this happened. We used to yell "Don't have a meltdown like Chernobyl" or don't act like Chernobyl" when someone was having a tantrum. We had no idea what we were saying. This show took me hostage for weeks. Loving your reaction style and commentary. Happy your channel fell into my algorithms
