Irving is big MVP, holy.

Looking forward to your thoughts on this one! This was the last episode that I pre-recorded back in August and I can't WAIT to get back into this show! 😄 [Direct link here.]

Love this episode. From the unique frozen setting, to the creepy little personification of Woe in Irving's dream, to the dopplegangers telling them which way to go, to the big reveal at the end, this episode just hits differently. The whole thing feels like a dream representation of their journey thus far in season 2, with Innie Helly waking up from it for real at the end. Good shit.

That glitch in Mark's vision, making him see Gemma in Helly's face... insane! Irving was such a boss this episode and Trammell Tillman continues to impress with his unnerving performance as Millchick.

Chris Thom

Great performance by John Turturro in this one.

But she made us a snow seal...?

This episode is definitely more revelatory on rewatches, because Irving's dream is what told him that Helly was an Eagan. His subconscious was filling in the blanks of his suspicions. How did his subconscious know? Not sure about that right now, but we have seen little bits of his lives bleeding into each other. I don't know if it's because he doesn't really sleep on the outside and makes the wall between his subconscious and conscious thinner? Someone in a comment pointed out the numbers on the screen in Irving's dream are the letters in the name "Eagan" (but I'm not sure about that) and they swirl around and form Helly's face (that I did see this time). I didn't notice that the first time. I sometimes have a hard time seeing something when I don't know what I'm looking at/for. But yeah, at this point, we don't know how/why Irving seems to know more, like with the paintings. He calls someone on the pay phone. The man's a mystery, even more than Helena, I think.

Chris Thom

Yeah you can see Eagan spelled out for a split second. I completely missed that before watching recap vids on Youtube.

Just a warning, but episode 8 is considered a bit boring by some. Think it's actually the lowest rated episode by audience score. Yes there's some important revelations in it, but it's also slow as hell for most of it. Great performance by Patricia though. It is sandwiched between two fantastic episodes. Personally, I might pair it with episode 9 during one sitting. The finale would be super hard to wait for, but it could probably be done. Maybe.

Well, it's not like I'm going to skip it haha. For the future, these "warnings" aren't really necessary and can affect my experience going in. I prefer receiving this sort of information once the episodes reaction is shared. Thanks!

Regarding the comment about episode 8 that someone already..."warned" you about. I can't wait for to actually get to that episode and see nothing wrong with it. I hate this slow = Bad mentality

Chris Thom

It's not bad. But if she was frustrated with this one early on would imagine it might be the same kind of thing. Every reactor I've seen so far has paired it with another episode, which seems to make for a better experience. It definitely was for me.

@Chris - I am likely recording a bunch of episodes in one sitting again, but that won't change the release schedule here on Patreon.

Chris Thom

Really hoping Ben Stiller doesn't make us wait another two and a half years again. That was just cruel. He did promise it would be less of a wait, but haven't really heard anything about 3's production yet. But it is greenlit!
