Wow, what a very long hang out this morning! Thank you for being there! I always say that I'll only be live for so long and then I end up going far longer than that. 😅 These lives give us a chance to be able to talk about more than just the movies and shows that I'm watching, and I'm always reminded that I want to do these way more often. Thanks to everyone who tuned in for a bit, even if it was just a quick hello. 🙏🏻

recap if you're not interested in listening to me blab for five hours 😉

star trek

been thinking about this for a while

pros:

i know i'll love it 🖖🏻

i generally love tv series more than movie series and this is mostly tv

i've never watched series from this long ago ever - big branch-out

huge fanbase > more new folks > boost to yt/pat revenue > able to continue doing reactions full-time > i'm happy > viewers happy

plenty of opportunity to take small breaks or stop entirely if circumstances and desires change

cons:

need to reduce the # of movie reactions that i do to fit trek in

fanbase is passionate, but very spoilery!! so may have to ignore comments

are trek reactions over-saturated right now? maybe - could be a factor

franchise is hyuuuggeee but marvel did train me for it

chosen watch choice would be everything in release order - no episode skips or bouncing around from new to old

maybe i won't know if this is a good decision unless i begin and see how it goes

how many people already here are into trek? let me know!

gonna think on this more, just wanted to share what's on my mind

dedicated slots for movie reactions - starting in dec

one movie per week = kl's choice

standalone films only, but maybe also movies that have one bad sequel that literally nobody wants

will rotate evenly through genres

most will go on youtube

one movie per week = viewer's choice

rotate between poll winners, reactr requests, and member of the month winner picks

may or may not go on youtube, as per usual

one movie per week* = short movie series

continuing and/or finishing those i've started, and starting those which i've not - probably alternating

going off vibes - not committing to watching all movies in every series

most will go on youtube, but some may not

was asked about james bond, still planned with my mom, but not any time soon. it's the only long movie series i want to watch.

* = if i start star trek, this is the slot that will be reduced, so not always one per week

reactr page

reactr team has been UPGRADING 🔥🔥🔥

now with imdb integration - can finally move off flat-fee 👏🏻

pricing will change at the start of 2026

✨ get a request in before end of dec at the current pricing if you want it ✨

i still have my one-request-at-a-time rule right now, please respect that, thank you 🙏🏻

no firm decision on pricing yet, but i'm favouring this structure:

price per minute for movies up to 149 min, and a flat-fee for movies 150 min+

the most fair option

prices increase equally for most movies, but longer movies can be kept affordable

one offering for each allows flexibility for me and transparency for you

i can limit the 150 min+ movie to one at a time or pause intake, but keep the other open

let me know your thoughts on this structure

patreon discount: is this still enticing?

a number of members have opted to pay my regular price, so i'm wondering whether to still offer this

alternate benefit? provide a month of free patreon membership for each completed request

thoughts?

black friday / cyber monday membership & collections sale

thurs nov 27 - tues dec 2 there will be a sale on new memberships and collection purchases

still figuring out the actual % off

patreon doesn't allow me to discount my individual reactions because i already price them as low as patreon has decided prices can be (🤣🤣🤣🤣)

genuinely no lie this is a piss off for me and i really wish they would change this.

annual membership discount increase

i've always offered 10% off if you subscribe annually over monthly, but i've never changed it so i'm going to be increasing this to 15%. that will start on jan 1, 2026.

I think that covers all reaction-related updates.

Some unrelated chats:

what a pain taxes can be sometimes re: filing

venting about AI inserting itself everywhere online and how unsustainable OpenAI feels

when AI LLM's are helpful vs. just rotting our brains

how tech companies are dominating the stock market now

a little about the jobs i had in finance

my thoughts on doctor who so far (i've been watching it offline and i'm in the first peter capaldi season)

tl;dr: i'm enjoying it, but i also don't really Iove-love it in the same way that so many seem to, so i'm relieved i didn't react to it

✨ i'm on adhd meds ✨ for about 6.5 weeks now - chatted about my experience so far, mostly all positive

I might have missed some smaller things, but that's what I remember. 😊

I forgot to write a thank you to Tyler in the post re: Reactr pricing. A few weeks ago, he suggested having long movies in their own offering so I could have more control over how many of those come in. I liked this and remembered it. Thanks Tyler!

Tyler Foster

I definitely like and go for the Patreon discount Reactr request if it's available. I wonder if the frequency of its use will be affected by the fact that you dropped the one-slot-per-offering limit -- if I was really excited to submit a request ASAP before, I'd have no problems paying the higher price, but only when the Patreon one was sold out.

Tyler Foster

My only very minor opinion on Star Trek is that the original cast movies come after the shows (the original series and The Animated Series). Those movies ran long enough that the last couple came out concurrently with "The Next Generation." Cinebinge chose to hold those movies and mix them in among "TNG" seasons for strict chronological order, but since the last two movies have no bearing on "The Next Generation," I would have preferred finishing the six original cast movies before starting "TNG" instead of mixing them in to a stricter chronological release spot.

Movies with KL

Fair point regarding the discount. I haven't decided if I want to keep no-limits or not. It's still kind of in an experimentation phase, to see 1) How I feel, and 2) If it affects how many requests come in overall (because there is no Sold Out indicator). I'll always communicate if I end up changing things. Appreciate that point about the Star Trek movies, in particular. I'll keep that in mind.

Thadman

Star Trek? Yes. Thank you.

Arcee

Thanks for the summary, was unable to drop in and I'd rather watch one of your new-to-me movies than go back to it :). All sounds great, especially continuing with series. ST is not for me but hopefully you'll like it and get people.

Movies with KL

Totally valid haha. Enjoy whatever movie you watch!

Brian Leonard

I like Star Trek, but I personally can't commit to watching every episode with you. Probably just my favorites mostly, but Trek could keep me subscribed to the channel. Honestly, for a futuristic sci-fi space series, I like Babylon 5. For space sci-fi set in the past, I like For All Mankind.

HugoBoss435

Just me personally…no interest in the Star Trek tv series. I’ve only ever seen the most recent movies with Chris Pine. Those are really good.

Movies with KL

Are you someone into all of it, or just select stuff?

Thadman

All of it. I've never been a "fan" (in the traditional sense of "fanatic") about anything. I've just always been a fan of stories and concepts that make me think about things I either hadn't thought of before or that makes me consider something from a different angle. Sci-fi lets you do that in a safe environment, a sandbox. I'm not a gatekeeper of things to tell others what's TRUE Star Wars or REAL Star Trek or whatever. I just tend to try not to carry too much baggage going into something so I can try to enjoy what the writers and actors and showrunners are trying to show. If it doesn't sit right with me, I'll explain why and move on. Like, if I loved TOS, but didn't like the newer movies, I'd say what I didn't like about it, but I don't hold the original source so tightly that I can't accept someone putting out a different product with their own spin to it. That being said, I really like the newer movies. If I were to have a preference for how someone new should watch, I'd start at the beginning and try to understand why it became popular (or a phenomenon). Just watch it as the now fans would have, originally. You can make your own decisions about what you like and why.

Star Treck is amazing!! A very intelligent TV show and the themes and moral questions it asks are relevant just as much today as it was back than. There is SOOOOOOOOO much of it though, and not everything is top quality definitely have some episodes and movies that aren't great. Benefit with the tv shows that most of them are episodic so you could, if you wanted, watch a best of list and than watch the movies connected to the series. Although I'd watch it all because I love it. Older stuff generally better than the newer stuff (with some exceptions) All that being said. I'd definitely watch it.

Sean Ellingham

Star Trek would be a reason for me to stick around long-term. I don't think you'd have to worry about over-saturation too much - AFAIK, everyone else currently doing Trek has started or is well into (or in the case of Jen has finished) TNG, and it'll take the the best part of a year for you to get through TOS (assuming two episodes a week). Since you wouldn't be starting immediately, that should give you a decent gap to everyone else

Nicholas Bielik

I’m here for the Trek reactions whatever form they take! I love most of the various Trek shows and movies (with a few exceptions). The original series is a nostalgic favorite (which I grew up with), and Star Trek is one of the fandoms I’m most invested in, and I love many of the other shows and films. Even the misfires are usually still fun and interesting!

Mike A

I'd love to see your reaction to Star Trek. I'm generally a completionist about franchises, so I can understand you wanting to watch it all without skipping. I've seen every single episode and movie that was released after I was born, but I've probably only seen about half the TOS episodes, as they don't feel as "necessary". So, with no skips, there will definitely be episodes that feel dated or lower quality in one way or another (which you can say about episodes in pretty much every Trek series), but I definitely believe that the good outweighs the bad, not to mention that it always gets better in one way or another. Good luck!

Movies with KL

Thanks for the info! The main reason that I want to watch it all without skipping is because I chatted with both Jen Murray and Ames (Hold Down A) about Trek, in separate and private conversations. I asked both of them what they would do differently about their Trek journey if they had the ability to start over. They both said they would start at the beginning (release order) and watch it all. So that basically sealed the deal for me in choosing that for my own path, if/when I decide to.
