This is the other poll that was created during the last live stream here on Patreon. Thanks to Nate for being the first one to bring up this topic and to a number of others for participating with film names, links to ranked lists, etc. I'm excited to see which one wins!

You can pick multiple movies in this poll.

This will run until end of day on Tuesday in my timezone. Happy Voting!

Lol, can I just vote for all 🤣. All film noir, but each has a slightly different sub genre! Maltese is an import baseline for the genre, Sunset Blvd is nearing the end of the genre... Bookends, sort of. Sunset is one of my top ten films of all time! But... It would be criminal to watch that one early in the Noir journey 😭. Double Indemnity is a classic, and fits nicely into the kind of middle of the genre, when it was 'self-aware', knew what it was doing. Mature, but not old & stale... The Big Sleep is a wild choice! What a crazy movie! Love it, but... Not an 'important' representation of the genre. Strangers on a train is amazing, so much so, that it was remade (sort of) as a comedy with Danny DeVito & Billy Crystal! (Throw Momma from the Train); that has one of my favorite movie scenes of all time. Anyway. I voted for Maltese Falcon; it is the first of its kind, and the plot has been reused in film and TV for like, 85 years? Might feel predictable to some, but only because you've seen it in a TV show before 🤷🏻. Still, a fantastic film! Us oldies will recognize the voice that inspired Ren, from Ren & Stimpy 🤣.

I was hoping for Double Indemnity to win, which in my opinion is a great encapsulation of the themes and tones that make up what film noir is, in addition to being a terrific film. However, The Maltese Falcon is also great, and it makes for an interesting comparison to Indemnity when thinking about what encapsulates film noir. If you asked someone to envision film noir who hadn't really seen any, they would probably picture many elements from The Maltese Falcon, and that isn't wrong. However, for my money, I think more noir actually looks more like Double Indemnity, even if I understand why Maltese Falcon's elements are the pop-culture go-to for "film noir."

Wouldn't mind seeing Maltese Falcon again. I've seen some of the filming locations in San Francisco, but I didn't know what scenes they were from.

Love a good noir. Such a neat style of film. Who Framed Roger Rabbit was definitely my introduction to the genre. lol

San Francisco is amazing for film location site seeing! I lived just over the GG bridge for 25 years, and worked in San Francisco for a few. So many good movies were shot there, old and new!

Yeah it's a great movie city for sure. My sister has lived there for ten years now I think, and I'm STILL dragging her to locations when I visit. Lol. My favorites might be Vertigo and The Game. That Palace ballroom and bar is so neat. We did Christmas there a few years ago and it was magic. We don't go to places like that too often, but it was so neat to see. Alcatraz legit frightens me a bit. Feels haunted.

No wrong answers here. Great comments here already. I'd just add that the dialog in Double Indemnity hits like a fighter working a speed bag -- just dazzling.

I love SF as a movie setting.
