Happy Friday everyone! And our winner this month is...

📢 Get your pick(s) in now for the March draw! This is open until Thursday, Mar 5 and the draw will be filmed and shared on Friday, Mar 6.

Congratulations to nouvelle_vague! They entered Wings of Desire (1987).

Also, my mistake in thinking you were a repeat winner. You are not, this is your first! The only repeat winner we've ever had for MotM is Christopher Simeon, who won in Nov 2024 and Dec 2025.

Have a wonderful rest of your Friday and a fabulous weekend! Thanks for being here. 🥰

Always the padawan never the Jedi LOL Congrats nouvelle! Looking forward to this, I believe it'll be a first watch for me :)

Tyler Foster

First-time watch for me as well. Very famous film.

Nicholas Bielik

I love Wings of Desire: a brilliant, sad, lovely film. I used to own the soundtrack and listened to it over and over.

Chad Jenkins

Congrats. Never seen the film. I'm intrigued to check it out

It is my first time winning! I hope I picked well. I tried to pick something I thought you would like, but also something you may not see otherwise. If you can see the 4K restoration version (which was released in 2018), it really is a significant upgrade and I can explain why after you see the film. I guess I should also mention that the film is mostly not in English, so there are subtitles. I'll let you go in blind otherwise but just keep in mind the state of the Cold War in 1987. I hope everyone who is having a first-time watch enjoys it.

The rules say "Please do not submit ... the first movie in a film series." Is that referring to movies with sequels? For instance, does that mean submitting "The Godfather" (1972) would be against the rules because there is "The Godfather Part II" (1974)? Thanks.

At the moment, yes. I have this same rule on Reactr. I just want to have a little bit more control over when I start series because I already have a number of series that I've started and not finished and it's easier for me right now if I don't add to that pile unless I'm the one adding to it. That said, a loose exception (which I haven't outright stated here) is that if there is a movie that only has one sequel, and that sequel is largely considered terrible and there'd be no demand for a reaction, then it's fine to submit that first movie. Some examples that fall into this exception would be Highlander (1986), The Blair Witch Project (1999), Caddyshack (1980), The Mask (1994), Coming to America (1988). (I've already reacted to Speed (1994) and Independence Day (1996), which also fall into this category.)

I am able to access this digitally on the Criterion Channel. They usually have very high quality digital videos that they don't compress to hell in the browser like other streaming platforms do, so I'm assuming this should be fine? (Even if I were to get a 4K disc, I would have to rip it to digital anyway for the reaction.)

Clay F

Makes sense. Thanks for the reply.

nouvelle_vague

Criterion has released the 4k version as part of the Criterion Collection, so I would hope that's the version that's on their channel. It will be fine either way, but hopefully you get the 4k version. I'm glad you have a good way to see it as well. It's usually pretty accessible, but I was a little worried it might be hard to stream.

Nice choice, I hadn't heard of it but looks intriguing!
