Appearance
Stoneback is huge even by Sasquatch standards, a towering wall of fur and muscle. His entire body is covered in thick, shaggy hair the color of dark earth and pine-bark, with lighter streaks of gray and mossy brown along his shoulders and back that inspired his name. His eyes are surprisingly gentle: deep, warm amber with an intelligent focus. They soften around children and small animals, but narrow sharply when he senses danger. His face sits somewhere between ape and bear with a broad muzzle, heavy brow, but expressive in a way that makes his emotions easy to read when you know the signs. Beneath the fur, his frame is all muscle: enormous shoulders, thick arms, massive hands capable of crushing stone, and legs built for both climbing and long-distance movement. Despite his size, he moves with a quiet, deliberate grace, more like a huge, cautious cat than a lumbering beast. He doesn’t wear traditional clothing, but he does adorn himself: Leather bands and woven cords around his wrists and upper arms. Small carved wooden charms braided into his fur, made from fallen branches and gifted trinkets from children. A wide, rough belt from which hang pouches, rope, and small tools. In town, he sometimes wears an oversized poncho or blanket like a cloak, partly to make himself look “less scary” to new arrivals. It helps a little. Mostly, it makes him look like a moving haystack with eyes.
—---------------------- Personality —----------------------
Stoneback is shy, cautious, and observant. He watches more than he acts, weighing people by how they treat the weak and the land around them. Loud, boastful types make him wary. Those who are gentle with children, animals, and the injured quickly earn his trust. Though he can’t speak human languages yet, he is not stupid—in fact, he’s quite clever. He picks up patterns fast: who argues with who, where trouble usually starts, which scents mean “fear,” “anger,” or “lies.” He remembers faces and voices with uncanny clarity, and he can often sense when someone is about to do something foolish long before they move. Stoneback’s temper is slow to ignite, but once it does, it’s volcanic. Threaten the town, attack the helpless, or defile the forest, and the gentle giant becomes a terrifying force. Even then, he prefers to disable rather than kill if he can; he breaks weapons first, then bones if forced. Around those he trusts, he is almost playful. He loves simple games children invent, enjoys being used as a climbing structure, and will patiently sit through stories even if he doesn’t understand every word—just for the warmth of shared company. He desperately wants to communicate as clearly as the elders do, to speak for himself and for his clan, but his throat and tongue haven’t fully adapted yet to human-style speech. For now, he expresses himself with hand gestures and simple signs. Soft grunts, trills, and whistles. Expressions, posture, and the tilt of his head. Those who spend time with him learn to “read” him as easily as any spoken language.

Background
Stoneback was born high in the northern mountains, in a hidden valley where mist clung to the trees and humans rarely walked. The Clan of Sasquatch were guardians there, quiet, ancient, and cautious. They kept watch over migration paths, sacred groves, and hidden places where the barrier between worlds thinned. From a young age, Stoneback was different. Bigger than most of his age-mates, yes, but also more curious about the distant lights in the lowlands, human settlements, roads, and railways inching closer each year. The elders warned him to stay away. Humans were loud, angry and dangerous. Then came the wave of change as a black Goddess suddenly appeared with a trial for them to overcome. When various elders failed they lost most of their brethren and their sacred home. Unfortunately more tragedy struck as Hunters, trappers, and supernatural factions clashed over territory while they wandered around for a home. The mountains grew more crowded, less safe. One winter, a hunting party followed tracks they should never have seen. The Clan fought in the snow and fog, driving them back, but not without cost. It became clear: the old way, remaining hidden forever, was dying. The world outside was changing, whether they liked it or not. Salvation came in the sign of Moonshadow Gulch, a hidden town, a place where supernatural migrants could gather instead of being picked off alone. Some of the surviving elders scoffed. Others saw a possible future for their young.
Stoneback and several others volunteered to go. Or rather, they insisted until the elders relented. Young, strong, and curious, he would walk between forest and town, learning how this new world worked. He arrived at Moonshadow Gulch carrying nothing but a massive walking staff and a pack woven from branches. Some residents panicked at first—“There are Sasquatch at the gates!”—but the Gulch was built on the idea that everyone fleeing hunters deserves a chance. They let him in, under close watch. Stoneback and the others quickly proved his worth as he helped rebuild damaged sections of palisade and walkway like they were toys. They carried supplies that would have needed three men and a cart. He tracked threats near the town—hunters, hostile spirits, and predators—before they got close. Over time, suspicion turned into acceptance. Then affection. Now, Stoneback is part of the Gulch’s backbone—its silent, shaggy sentinel.

Abilities
Sasquatch Physiology
Impressive Strength: Stoneback can lift logs, boulders, and wagons as if they were firewood. In combat, he can crush weapons, splinter shields, and uproot trees.
Durability: His dense muscles, thick bones, and layered fur make him exceptionally hard to injure. Normal bullets often lodge shallowly; knives and claws struggle to reach vital areas.
Enhanced Senses: He smells changes in the weather, hears distant voices, and can differentiate individual heartbeats in a crowd. In the wilderness, he’s nearly impossible to surprise.
Forest Adaptation
Moves silently between trees despite his size, using branches and footholds most species can’t even see.
Knows how to build shelters, find water, and locate edible plants and fungi in multiple terrains.
Excellent climber; can scale sheer surfaces others consider impossible.

Powers
Earth-Memory (Instinctive Mapping) - Stoneback’s mind maps territory like a living, walking atlas. Once he has walked an area a few times, he can recall paths, hiding spots, and vantage points perfectly. Guide others through dense forest or complex canyons without getting lost. Sense when something about the land “feels wrong”—fresh disturbances, new traps, or erased trails. This isn’t magical so much as a combination of keen observation, pattern recognition, and ancestral instinct.
Young Mind, Old Wisdom (High Intelligence, Low Voice) - While he cannot yet speak fluent words, Stoneback understands far more than most people realize. He can follow complex instructions, remember detailed plans, and strategize in his own way. Uses improvised markers—stones, carved symbols, woven branches—to communicate routes and warnings. Occasionally surprises town leaders by offering solutions through gestures and demonstrations they hadn’t even considered.
—------------------------ Personality Quirks —------------------------
Tilts his head like a curious dog when listening, especially to new languages or songs.
Hums low, rumbling “songs” from his clan under his breath while working or keeping watch.
Collects small, smooth stones and pieces of wood that “feel right,” often giving them to children or using them in little carved totems.
Fluffs up his fur (like a cat puffing its tail) when startled or embarrassed.
Sometimes forgets how strong he is—has accidentally broken chairs, doorknobs, and one unfortunate outhouse. Felt terrible afterward.
Loves being read to, even if he doesn’t understand every word; he focuses on tone, rhythm, and the warmth of the moment.

Relationships
Asia Argento - To Stoneback, Asia is “little light” incarnate. He doesn’t have words for it, but when she enters a room, he feels calmer at the first sight of her. He had the strongest urge to befriend her and took her to the town by force. He’s seen her heal broken bones and old wounds, and in his eyes, that makes her something sacred. He is extremely gentle around her—careful with his hands, sitting further back so he doesn’t loom too much, ducking his head when she thanks him. When she overworks herself, he is one of the first to notice; he’ll nudge her shoulder or gently pluck her off her feet and set her on a cot, ignoring her flustered protests. Asia, in turn, treats him not as a beast, but as a friend. She explains things to him, shows him how to handle delicate objects, and prays for him sometimes. He doesn’t fully understand the words, but he recognizes the love behind them.
Selene Dragulescu - Selene is another predator who chose the Gulch as home. At first, they circled each other cautiously, two guardians testing a boundary. Over time, mutual respect grew. She trusts him to handle threats that require brute force; he trusts her to handle the subtle, sneaky ones. On patrol, they communicate mostly through gestures, brief grunts, and shared glances. It’s enough. They work well together.
Moonshadow Gulch - The town is his den, his chosen territory. He knows every walkway, roof, and alley outside and in, and has secret routes only he can navigate. He sees the Gulch not just as a place, but as a collection of lives—each heartbeat a part of something worth protecting. When children wave at him, he waves back with comically large hands. When elders sit in rocking chairs, he quietly repairs their steps and railings. When newcomers arrive, scared and wounded, he watches from a distance first… then approaches slowly, offering help in the form of carried burdens rather than words.

Town kids have turned climbing him into a game. He tolerates it with infinite patience, moving slowly so no one falls.
Once carried an entire broken wagon, contents and all, back to town after travelers were ambushed nearby. The story grew into a local tall-tale within a week.
He’s fascinated by music boxes, clocks, and other small mechanical things—he’ll sit and watch the moving parts for ages.
If someone leaves food out for him, he’ll try a bit—but he prefers fresh fruits, roots, and the occasional cooked meat over processed food. Sweets confuse him.
