Skill Orb (Patreon)
Content
Skill Orbs are the abilities that a monster uses, released by monsters when they are killed. Of course this doesn’t usually happen as it’s mostly random. But a popular theory is that these Orbs are released when an opponent fairly defeats monsters with their own skills and merits.
Skill Orbs are not generic upgrades. They are crystallized fragments of a monster’s core ability, bound to:
Its biology
Its dimensional origin
Its mana signature
Its evolutionary logic
Which means: Not every human body can host every foreign power and that creates tension.
Absorption Limits
Body compatibility required. If the ability requires a tail or a certain body part to use and you don’t have it then you're out of luck.
High-tier orbs can reject the host.
Absorbing too many causes corruption.
Some orbs are incompatible as they need the host to possess the same affinity. Example: an elemental affinity for fire.
Corruption Risk
Dungeon energy is foreign. Overuse causes:
Physical mutation.
Psychological instability.
Monsterization.

Secret Information: S-rank Skill Orbs
These are sentient holding the partial soul of the monster and are able to influence the host and try to reshape them. These Orbs choose their host.

Skill Orbs: Compatibility System
High Compatibility
Absorption is smooth.
Minimal strain.
Ability integrates naturally.
Growth potential unlocked.
Usually happens when:
The person’s mana signature matches.
Bloodline is compatible.
Earth-selected Champions adapt better.
—-----------------------------
Partial Compatibility
Ability integrates but unstable.
Causes strain, fever, mana backlash.
Requires training to stabilize.
Overuse may cause internal damage.
—---------------------------
Incompatible
Orb rejects the host.
Violent mana feedback.
Physical mutation possible.
Temporary paralysis or coma.
In worst cases: death.
—-------------------------------
Orb Rejection Consequences
Mana Burn - Internal magic circuits rupture. The host survives but loses future growth potential.
Partial Corruption - Monster traits manifest:
Hardened skin
Clawed fingers
Glowing eyes
Aggressive impulses
Full Overwrite – The orb takes control and the host becomes a monster hybrid.
Compatibility rates:
Type Compatibility Rate
Earth/God Selected Very High
Sacred Gear Users Moderate to High
Strong Bloodlines Moderate
Natural Mages Low to Moderate
Normal Civilians Very Low
This is to prevent random civilians from becoming gods overnight.
