Christina Hendricks is a wonder! She also played a role in Angel: The Barmaid in a flashback scene in S1E15 "The Prodigal".

I got the feeling that Mal actually knew the truth about Inara kissing him. I think he just let Inara think he got it wrong in order to get the last word. The only way she could have corrected him was by admitting the truth, and Mal knew she would never do that. That would mean Mal had the upper hand, and Inara couldn't allow that.
