At the risk of sounding a bit Xander... Spike's evil! He murdered an innocent woman in this episode and he's presumably not been living on raspberry coulis since the end of S2! (And as for telling Buffy where Xander and Willow were: that simply makes sense since he has no further use for them and doesn't want to give Buffy a reason to pursue him - he just wants to leave and find Dru. We know he thinks this way as he criticised Angelus for provoking Buffy without killing her, leaving them with "an incredibly brassed-off slayer".) A common observation for this episode that I don't think has been made in the comments to the full reaction is that Willow wasn't wearing perfume and both vampires and werewolves can smell blood (note Spike referencing smelling Willow too). Who's this "Wes" person you keep talking about? ;)

Eliza Dushku (Faith) was 17 for most of the filming of the season so child labor laws prevented her from being in some episodes/scenes

You'll see him eventually Dan. Domi saw him on the spinoff series Angel, and discovered that Wes had also been on Buffy.

So to recap...Spike arrives miserable. His presence directly and indirectly breaks up all the couples on the show. Spike leaves happy. 🤣🤣🤣
