Are we losing faith in Faith? Will be back to watch later!

Bri

I mean, I think maybe I ship Kendra and Faith now?

Ron Fehr

Willow may no longer have feelings for Xander, but you can't blame her for crying. She's been his friend for most of his life. Up until now, she's had the closest connection to him. Maybe she just feels betrayed.

The Suburban Big Man

My understanding is that the actor who plays Mr. Trick had to leave the show because he got another opportunity. It's a shame I loved Mr. Trick

Negative

Someone tries to predict what will happen in an episode of Buffy... The Show: YOU FOOL

Tim Pierce

I've noticed you seem to have severe moments of denial with this show Domi.

Rörd Hinrichsen

I'm so happy that despite having met Faith before, you were unspoiled about her arc in this season.

Domi E

Yep I’m so glad I don’t remember Faith’s episode. When I sent this episode to my friend she was like... “Domi sweetie you really don’t remember shit huh”... I really don’t!

Richard Ashton

She may be crying because she knows, from what has been said, Faith used and discarded Xander but he can't understand this. If he could, he would be the one in tears.

Shaun Houghton

I was going to say , that reaction was an entertaining mix of Denial, Optimism and Surprise.

Ron Fehr

I didn't even think of that Richard. That makes total sense. And Willow, being the type of person she is, would get emotional over it.

Ron Fehr

I wondered about that. There were probably some rewrites that had to be done, one that excluded Mr. Trick.

Justafox305

Off subject..but have you ever watched the movie "Cruel Intentions" you might like it. It stars Sarah Michelle Gellar but she's finally plays a bad girl.

zerofk

Well, this is a twist. What is Faith up to? I don't fully buy the thing about Angel knowing how she feels. What he went through is very different. Angelus didn't repress his guilt like Faith does - he didn't feel it. And as Angel he does feel guilt but again doesn't repress it, he wallows in it.

UTU49

Domi, honestly it is so interesting to see you watch the Buffyverse backwards. You know a little about the futures of Angel, Wes, and Faith, but we are now seeing that there is a lot about them that you don't know. Lots of the Buffyverse fans really like Faith and Wes, but you don't yet actually know enough about them to know WHY people like them. These episodes are so familiar to me that I no longer feel the intensity of it... which is why it's so fun to watch reactors freak out over the craziness. IMO, Episodes 12, 13, 14, and 15 are amazing. You've been asking for more Faith. I thought to myself, "Okay, you're going to get to see more Faith in episodes 13 - 15, but it may not give you what you want." NEXT TOPIC: I'm listening to your post-comments about Willow. I think Willow's crying about Xander and Faith might actually be more about Buffy. Hear me out. Willow feels like Faith has stolen her best friend. Now it's like Faith is trying to take both Buffy and Xander from her. Faith having "the sex" with Xander is like salt in the wound. (Bad mixed metaphor. Bad bad bad.)

FernWithy

I think that your reaction to Faith is what it's supposed to be by the writing. You like her at first, you want to really root for her, but then she starts to go off the rails, and you STILL want her to be okay, but, but... Yeah. She's a well-put-together character this way. I think Faith is trying to figure out her place in the universe. She's done something awful and behaved like a monster, so she kind of decides, "Well, maybe I'm a monster..." I can't think of another case where a woman commits attempted rape in a show. They don't name it, but it's absolutely what she does to Xander.

FernWithy

It's also about her as herself. Xander, who rejected her for years, obviously had no compunction about being with Faith, who used and abused him. So what does that mean about Willow (to Willow... to other people, it doesn't mean anything)? How awful is she that someone who accepts Faith rejects her? (Of course, for Xander, it's a different experience. He was not in charge of the encounter at all, and the best he could say is that he didn't actively resist that time. It's not like it was a choice he made and is still trying to process what happened and give it a meaning. Willow is not privy to this.)

Domi E

Oh we def are! Haha

Domi E

I wouldn’t be opposed!

Domi E

Yeah that def makes a bit more sense! I just feel bad I don’t want her to cry :(

Domi E

Aw damn that’s a bummer! He was great! But I’m so glad he got more opportunities!!

Domi E

Ahh I haven’t but it’s on my list! I’ve been dying to watch it!

Domi E

That’s true! It’s very different situations! He can try and understand it to some extent and find ways to relate to her but of course he can’t feel the same things she does.

Domi E

Ah yes that explanation makes a lot of sense! And yep, turns out I really don’t know much from these characters futures haha. Especially Faith’s since I don’t remember her appearance!

Domi E

Yeah that’s so true the writing in this show is just too good!!

Ron Fehr

Thank you for the female perspective Fern.

Miah

Please post a reaction if you do! Another Buffy reactor watched it awhile back and it was so much fun to see.

Steve Quast

Okay Faith, first off, you need to understand how to effectively get rid of a body. Maybe ask Domi what she does with the show's writers when she deals with them....

Steve Quast

The dynamic between Wesley and Cordelia is a little bit different here than it is on Angel, isn't it? lol

Steve Quast

"First word jail, second word bait." Not sure I'd be talking about jail right now, Faith....just saying....

CeNedra

Me scrolling through the comments 🙈🙉🙈🙉🙈🙉🙈🙉 haha I didn't get spoiled today ☺

Phoenix Dawn

I love this season and this arc but I really wish we had spent more time with Faith in earlier episodes. But, yeah, Faith is awesome and Eliza plays her so well (I think that contributed to our love of her). Thanks for your reaction, it’s priceless.

Steve Quast

Nope. No way at all Faith will team up with the mayor. Never happen....

Steve Quast

Probably every guy has a crush on Cordelia, whether they admit it or not.

CeNedra

Omg I love the way you look at the camera at the end of the show as if to say wtf 🤣🤣🤣

Vicky N

It’s admirable how much Buffy try everything to be an ally to Faith. She is the one who never want to give up on her despite her betrayal. I think it’s important to point that out as people have a tendency to blame her in part for what’s happening with Faith or not acknowledging at all what she is going through.

KT

Honestly, poor Xander. I never shipped him and Faith or anything, and their night together never felt like more than a one night stand, even before this happened. And it was a classic Xander move to go against the recommendation of the group and try to talk sense into Faith anyway. But unlike certain other fights where Xander stubbornly asserts his will, this one to me felt it came from an honest and vulnerable place in him. He just wants to feel connected to someone, and for his first sexual experience to mean something. And then Faith laughs in his face, sexually assaults him and tries to kill him (which btw is why I think Angel was approaching the topic the way he was, Faith was trying to murder Xander for fun just like he used to murder people for fun). It's slightly reminiscent of Angelus belittling Buffy's sexual abilities and her and Angel's connection in Innocence. I mean, Angel and Buffy were in love and Angelus was literally gaslighting Buffy so it's not the same thing, but I feel a similar kind of pain for both Xander and Buffy in those situations.

Devon Martin

Oh em gee!!! I have such nostalgia with these season 3 episodes i have on VHS...😎🖤...you are so adorable domie 🤓❤- BTW I fricking LOVE angel season 4.....I remember watching og buffy and angel on the "wb" network...this show will have you hooked from here until the last ep of the series 🥰🤯🤟😍😵🤪

Faith is all about trying to show strength & independence & more than anything else she hates to be perceived as weak or needing any kind of help or support. She goes to town so hard on vampires she takes out because that's a way to demonstrate her power & strength & make her feel better about herself. In her intro episode, she'd fled from the vampire that she wounded & who killed her watcher, presumably to find somewhere safe since she went to Buffy - and then broke down when the vampire followed her, showing she needed help after all. Not long after, she was fooled by the fake watcher & presumably felt she'd been made to look like an idiot for being manipulated - another show of weakness. Buffy & the others don't like her much, partly due to Buffy's initial frustration at Faith 'stealing her life', plus Faith clearly doesn't attend school so doesn't have as much chance to interact day to day except when they call in to help with something, which would make her feel less included & more just that she's being used... she's also living in a dingy motel when really, none of them could at least offer some support? Of course, actually admitting those would be showing signs of weakness & needing help. And now she's killed a human - she's clearly distressed about it but can't show that because it's weakness... also she can't go to the others for help, because ditto. As Giles said, accidents can, do & will happen from time to time & the slayer does far more good than harm overall, which Faith was actually right about, but she's using that & twisting it, together with the whole "I'm stronger & better" thing to try & deflect blame again. If she could convince Buffy, then that'd add validation & help her to convince herself since as Angel was uncovering, on a deeper level she does still have her feelings of weakness, vulnerability & need for help, and doesn't have much (ironically) faith in herself. Incidentally, look back at the wish episode & compare Buffy in that vs. regular Buffy & vs. Faith. At the end, Faith feels she really can't go to the others any more, she can't run since as a murder suspect she'd be on the police radar, she's trying hard to convince herself she's stronger so should get what she wants for her own enjoyment & screw anything else, so where else is left? The Mayor.

Stewart Denew

As I said after the previous episode, I think as much as Xander jokes around about sex & attraction, he's a romantic at heart & genuinely can't get his head around not having an actual connection with a sexual partner - something which, as his best friend, Willow would understand about him & I think that's the real reason she was in tears... not so much that she's upset someone else had sex with him, but that Xander was essentially used & thrown away without any considerations of his feelings & she knew just how much he'd be hurt when he realised that.

Stewart Denew

Wesley telling the council was simply following procedure. The problem of course, is that procedure isn't everything - however he's clearly young & has very little experience, as both a watcher & of life in general, so doesn't know when to make those calls. Giles on the other hand is older & also had his bad boy streak when he was younger; incidentally probably part of the reason he didn't get invited to the watcher's retreat - a lot of stuffy hidebound types wouldn't want a former hellraiser like him around & I think it's implied that their restrictive ways might well have contributed to his rebellious phase. But because of that, he's more willing to bend rules when necessary, overlook certain things and allow a lot more leeway. Considering the council's very traditionalist approach, it's entirely possible that was the reasoning behind their choice of sending Wesley to be the new watcher - they knew he wouldn't have the confidence to make the call on when to bend rules etc. & would make sure things were done their way, or at least wimp out & pass it further up the chain for them to handle - the head of the council admitted that the overall objective takes priority so while they're technically the good guys overall, that doesn't mean they're nice.

I told you early on that Faith is my second favorite character in the Buffyverse (after Buffy herself), but I failed to mention my favorite characters are always the MOST complicated ones. The ones who have a multitude of layers, who could go either way, the ones who have so many damn flaws that it almost feels wrong to support them. I crave that in my characters and Faith is the epitome of that. I feel she is literally Buffy's other half, she's the opposite of her, but also -- who she could be like if she didn't have all she does in her life (mom, father figure, friends, school). I knew you'd be loving this season, it's quite a ride and it's not even close to over. :D I also wanted to touch on the moment on the docks with Buffy seeming helpless, this once again points to how her emotions affect her slaying. Yes, they come in handy, but Faith upset her so much that she had a much harder time being in control.... and nearly died because of it. I like that they keep showing that. The Willow/Xander thing: you have to remember this girl wanted Xander her whole life. It doesn't matter she has Oz now, she still had those feelings under the surface. It's the Dawson/Joey thing, which makes no sense if you didn't watch Dawson's Creek, but basically... Xander was her best friend who she imagined growing up with, being her first, going to prom with, marrying... and now she has to really grieve that loss which she hadn't actually done. =/

Dipper

"He's.... what?!?" :)

Ron Fehr

Just gotta say Faith and Kendra are total opposites.

Ron Fehr

Angel's conversation with Faith made sense to me in a way. Faith was starting to turn towards evil, and Angel knew what being evil was truly like. Perhaps he was trying to give her advice so that she would know what to expect by continuing down that road.

Jordan Haddow

I think she was saying that. That they are so opposite that they could never have mixed without one killing the other. In that event, I'd totally have to say Faith would have killed Kendra. Faith fights dirty. Also, she always seemed like she's been fighting her whole life, whereas Kendra was just training to fight her whole life.

Ron Fehr

I agree with you about Faith versus Kendra. Like Buffy once explained to her, Kendra had no imagination, and Faith would definitely have used that to her advantage.

Jordan Haddow

When I first started watching your reactions and you mentioned how you already watched the last 3 seasons of Angel, I have to admit I laughed. Knowing what they became would have made seeing their starts so shocking. I mean, Wesley going goo-goo-eyes at Cordelia, lol. I've been waiting for that reaction and you didn't disappoint. As for Angel's talk with Faith. I think that was driven a little by and not so discussed attribute of the Slayer. We all know so much about the strength and the dreams. But I've always considered bloodlust as another attribute bestowed upon slayers. It's the drive they have to go out and get into fights. The excitement they crave. Buffy downplays it a lot, but Faith always accepted and revelled in her bloodlust. So, I think that's why Angel felt Faith had gone further than anyone wanted to admit. For a normal person to kill, it's one thing. For a slayer, it's another. Buffy usually had control over it (except maybe in Ted), but Faith had been taken over by it. Now she was started to give up control to fully immerse herself in it. At least, that was my view. Also, with regards to Willow crying over Xander. i don't think it was because she wanted to be with him. I think it had to do more with how Willow thought of herself and her relationships with Buffy and Xander. Faith rolls into town and basically steals Buffy out of her life. Then she finds out that Xander had shared such a big part of his life with Faith as well. In the past, the three of them had always been a unit, so steadfast. Now, nobody is talking to Willow and are having major life changing relationships with Faith and Willow didn't even know. So I think she was basically feeling abandoned and a little crushed. Add to that, despite her not really wanting to be with Xander anymore, it still feels like he snubbed her in the past, and went for Cordelia who they hated and then Faith, who had never treated them well. A little added pain. Again, my thoughts.

Stewart Denew

Interesting point about the slayer bloodlust; you say Buffy downplays it but it could be that that's also in large part due to the influence of her friends helping to keep her grounded, remember what she was like in The Wish where she didn't have that support structure & also had a far more fatalistic approach towards it all, it seems that's the direction Faith is heading in too. That also potentially puts a different spin on the whole thing of the head of the council's insistence that Giles, caring for his slayer so deeply, wouldn't be willing to "do what's necessary" & by extension some of the council's methods - if the slayers' bloodlust gets to the point where it becomes a liability, one of those necessary things may well be to put the slayer down so a new one can take their place - that could also explain the advance training for those identified as potential slayers, instilling a sense of discipline & purpose to keep them under control & pointing in the right direction. Buffy was one that got missed & never had that training though, which probably has the council very worried since it adds an unpredictable element into what has, in their view at least, been a system that works - granted she's had a lot of success, but the council are likely still at the "well, it could just be a fluke, we need to monitor this carefully" stage.

Domi E

Oh interesting, I'll keep it in mind ;)

Domi E

Bold of you to assume I'd share my tips, Steve ;)

Domi E

I wanna scream YES based on not really remembering many of their Angel interactions to be honest???

Domi E

Totally agreed! And thank you Phoenix :)

Domi E

Hm......... Good? :P

Domi E

I don't think it's just every guy! Can't blame 'em.... Haha

Domi E

Yup I think that's exactly what I'm trying to say!

Domi E

BUFFY IS AMAZING! Totally agreed.

Domi E

Great points guys! Totally makes sense.

Domi E

Aweeee! So excited to keep watching :) S4 is near!!!

Domi E

Oh gosh, absolutely great points, this explanation has made me so freaking sad. Poor Faith!! The not being in school aspect of things really does explain so much of her distant connection to them.

Domi E

Oh yes for sure! But I'm excited to see Wes become more of his own person and start making his own decisions, even if they do contradict the council!

Domi E

Great points. And I agree I also do love complex characters!!

Domi E

Soooooo muchhhhhh happening!!!!!

Domi E

Hmmmm, would she though? Kendra might be more of a rule follower but if Faith attacked her I feel like Kendra could also pin her down fairly easily ;)

Domi E

Great points guys!! Gosh now I'm sad at the thought of Giles having to prepare himself emotionally to kill Buffy if it ever got to it.

Ron Fehr

I think that Angel feels that Faith could become numb to the idea of killing humans, and he didn't want her to go that route. While he felt no remorse once he became a vampire, he definitely felt it after he got his soul back. So while he may not have felt anything at the moment of committing these acts, he did feel them later.

Stewart Denew

absolutely :) you've seen the end point, now you're seeing the beginning & get to enjoy the journey

Jonathan Bruser

For me, I can totally understand why Faith might be acting more antagonistic towards Buffy & Co. From Faith's POV, she went out to slay vampires with Buffy. Buffy threw someone to the ground, and naturally, Faith went for the kill. Buffy caught the error a moment sooner, but too late for Faith. As Giles said, it's a tragic accident, but one of the inevitable casualties of the ongoing war against evil. So, we have Faith probably thinking that she messed up, but it was just a mistake made in the line of duty. And then everyone starts to judge her. Buffy tells her that she believes they both feel dirty inside, and Faith has to wonder, "Buffy, the only one who's really made any effort to connect with me, feels that I'm this sort of piece of dirt all of a sudden?" And then Buffy pours on all this pressure, laying on the guilt that Faith might not know how to - or might not be able to deal with right now. And then everyone from Xander to Angel to Wesley treats her like her accidental killing was an act of malice. To be fair, Xander of all people admits that it was an accident, but Faith probably felt that she was being judged unfairly. Not condoning what she did to Xander, but I think that she wasn't in a mental or emotional state to hear what he had to say. Angel treated her like she took a life in the same way that he did, as a soulless monster. And then Wesley frees her from one set of literal chains only to lock her up in another set of literal chains. At this point, all of the 'good guys' have turned against her, despite that she felt she was just doing her job. At least, that's my interpretation of what she might be feeling right now. And if I was someone like Faith - defensive and impulsive and insecure with her emotions - I might decide that if the good guys are gonna treat me like crap, then why should I try to get along with them? Whatever the show decides to do with Faith, I hope they continue to depict her as the damaged, complicated character that I see her as. She deserves better than what she's gone through, but even if it was an accident, she did take a life, and she's refusing to own up to that. I can only hope that she does decide to face the reality of what she did before it's too late for her to come back from the brink I fear she may be standing on.

Jordan Haddow

I tend to view Kendra as the weakest fighter mostly due to her battle right before she died. She gave Mr. Pointy to Buffy. During the battle, you can see she makes a gesture to get Mr. Pointy, but then remembers she doesn't have it. Now, Buffy is probably the best at improvising, but faith isn't far behind her. Kendra on the other had lept into the grey with no weapons. There were chairs nearby that could be broken down. Also, she could have hopped the counter behind her and gotten something to use as a steak in the office. The office also would have made a bottle neck so multiple vamps couldn't attack her at the same time. My thoughts at least.

R J Walker (FumblesMcStupid)

The advantage of being so far behind in watching your reactions means I don't need to worry too much about spoilers lol Your reaction at the end was priceless. :D You do denial so well. ;) I'd forgotten how stressful this is for somebody who loves Faith and Wesley (but their later personas) and has to deal with present Faith and Wesley :/ Faith, in particular, is a very complex character but it's hard to forgive the stuff she did here :( That fake out of Giles' though :/ and I do think that one of the reasons Buffy doesn't go to him immediately (and goes to Willow instead) is a consequence of Helpless. And I like the consistency of Faith being bad at lying (remember that party she was going to on Christmas eve lol)

That’s Not Acting

Every time I get to this episode I’m left with the same wish. I just wish someone would recognize that scene with Xander for what it was: it was sexual assault. At the absolute least Xander was conflicted and certainly he could not in any way be seen as consenting. She wasn’t “manipulating” him with sex, she was assaulting him, threatening rape, and all this before trying to kill him.
