What's better than having one Willow in an episode? Having two Willows! One of many reasons, I'm sure, that this one is a big fan favorite.

Justafox305

I also use to watch Legacies. I remember watching it and thinking, this show reminds me of Buffy, but not as good lol Did you notice Wesley was on an episode of Legacies. I kept watching the episode thinking "where have I seen this man before" and then I realized..it's Wesley?!!! lol i haven't seen him in anything other than buffy so it was shocking to see him as an older man on legacies.

Steve Quast

You think this is going to be like or related to The Wish episode? Hmmmm....nah. Can't be that. Must be something else.

Steve Quast

Sometimes I wish I could get credit for the fact that I thought of "buff Buff" before Willow. :P "Emotional control?" "Working on it...."

Tim Pierce

"I think I'm kinda gay." I don't know if you noticed, but the next line had Angel alluding to Willow's future (something you are aware of).

Steve Quast

I know Wes is still kind of a dork at this point, but let's give him credit for doing what everyone on the show should be doing, which is walking around with a cross and a bottle of holy water.

Steve Quast

"Faith, no!" Faith: *stabs* "Buffy, no!" Buffy: *stops* Nice reflexes, indeed.

Steve Quast

Poor Willow. She's had a rough episode. At the end you can see she's quite beside herself.

Tim Pierce

Plus early in the episode, Buffy was stressing out about being better than Faith. She proved it in that moment.

Steve Quast

Regarding Cordy and Wes, maybe it's for the best that you don't know/don't remember anything. Might as well keep future Angel episodes as much of a mystery as possible.

Steve Quast

I liked Xander and Cordelia, but admittedly the start of their relationship was more comical than anything. Wes and Cordy are definitely awkward, but at least you can tell they like each other lol.

So, we have a heroic character dealing with their darker counterpart, and despite that they are dark, they are also very badass, and Domi kinda likes them. And yet, our heroine tries her best to do right by her dark counterpart, and there's a moment where someone comes in for a killing blow with a stake, only for the heroine to cry, "[NAME], no!" And in spite of their dark deeds, the heroine looks for the best in their dark counterpart. Are we talking Buffy/Faith or Willow/Vamp!Willow? The parallels, I love them!

Chris Mansfield

It's funny that you mention how polite Willow is when storming off. It somewhat mirrors Oz interacting with Willow when he's trying to storm off in "Beauty and the Beasts", before Willow reminds him that the sun is about to set and he has to get in his cage: "OK, you know that thing where you bail in the middle of an upsetting conversation? I have to do that. It's kind of dramatic, I know, but sometimes it's a necessary guy thing."

UTU49

How many different ways can you interpret this? --> "I HAD FAITH IN THE BUFF."

CeNedra

Yesssssssss 💃💃💃💃

I don't think Buffy really does true monster of the week episodes, as while that may be the plot focus they'll still take the opportunity to drop some extra worldbuilding, a few main plot tie-ins, character moments & insights that may or may not pop up later. Buffy & Xander's relief when Willow appeared & showed she wasn't dead was great & shows that they care about each other, but we already knew that - Giles immediately hugging her too when he's normally so traditionally British & reserved was fantastic & really underscores how close they are.

Plus plus. In the episode Ted, when Buffy thought she had killed a real man, her mom lied to the police to keep Buffy safe, but Buffy just came out and admitted what she did and was willing to take the consequences. Although, on the other hand. Buffy had a fairly loving family, grew up popular, and ended up with very loyal friends. Faith's life seems to have been very disjointed. I always had the feeling she was an army brat. Basically no real friends, her mom died while she was young, her dad isn't really mentioned, which says something in itself. Plus, kind of a dark thought, but with the way she deals with men, I think she could have been victimized when she was young. So, if Buffy lived that life, I don't know. Just look at how different Buffy was in The Wish. If that Buffy killed a man by accident, would she have gone to the police or just moved on with the mission?

This is one of my all time favorite episodes. It's like wine, it just gets better with time. Great reaction. Also, thinking back to my first time watching it, I have to admit I felt exactly the same as you do. Especially concerning Faith. I really loved Faith's character and I just couldn't believe they were diverting her so far off the mark of where I was hoping she would be at by now. Also, Vampire Willow rules. By far one of the best all time bad guys(gals). Alyson Hannigan played that role to perfection.

zerofk

lol very interesting that you'd bring up The Wish in your intro :-D This is such a good episode. Some of the jokes fall a bit flat for me but overall it's bloody amazing. Vampire willow is such fun. And Alyson Hannigan playing Willow pretending to be Vampire Willow - what talent!

Re: Cordelia and Wesley. Their dynamic is a little strange because Wesley is so awkward, but I don't think the age gap is weird. Wesley is not a teacher, he holds absolutely no power over Cordelia (especially now that she's not really a part of the group), and I'm pretty sure we can assume she's 18 at this point. My feelings about age gaps are more complicated than the age of consent, but I don't think there's anything particularly sketchy going on here. Angel and Buffy on the other hand...

KT

A big theme this season is rebellion and deciding what's right for yourself in spite of whatever institutions or traditions or authorities tell you, and this being an essential step in the process of growing up. Giles rebelling against the Council. Both Buffy and Faith departing from the typical path of the slayer (though in very different ways). Xander resisting the power the patriarchy has over him and taking a step in forging his own version of masculinity in the Zeppo. Joyce taking charge of the town's attitude towards the supernatural, and more importantly, Buffy and Willow's refusal to accept the new regime despite all of the authorities in their lives (except Giles) supporting it. And this episode fits in with that in the ways you pointed out. Simply adhering to Snyder's authority means being forced to cheat for a person that treats her like garbage. The Mayor is a great villain for this season because he represents authority and institutional control. He sent out a team of vampires to take out Spike in Lovers Walk simply because Spike made such a ruckus last season. The first episode he was in, he spoke about the importance of controlling the children of a community. In Consequences, he was delighted to learn he could use the law against Buffy and Faith.

Definitely a fan favorite 🖤🖤🖤vampire willow is a hoot

The age difference between my parents was approximately eight and a half years. Of course that was decades ago.

KT

Oh yeah my mom was 38 and my dad was 25 when I was born. And my stepdad is 11 years older than my mom. I dated a 28 year old man when I had just turned 18 and am pretty sketched out by that now that I'm almost 28, but again, it's complicated.

Ron Fehr

I'm sure you agreed with Giles 100% that Wllow was much better than Xander. Lol

Domi E

OMG! Totally would have never known it was him!!! I watched Legacies before Angel so I would have never made that connection, I’m shocked!!

Domi E

Idk why I’d ever think that!!!

Domi E

Honestly I was losing my shit so I missed it but I just went back and watched. HAHA

Domi E

So true!!! Wes the voice of reason!!!

Domi E

Wow those are great points!!

Domi E

Yeah a part of me is glad I don’t remember anything haha

Domi E

Yeah that’s def true!

Domi E

Wooow!! So true!! These writers are kinda really freaking brilliant!!

Domi E

Aww these two 🥰They’re so meant to be!!

Domi E

Yep totally! They bring a really interesting twist to the format!

Domi E

Totally agreed!! Aly is too awesome!!

Domi E

YESS! She’s sooo good!!

Domi E

Great point about Buffy/Angel 😂😳I don’t have so much a problem with age gaps, but I think they can be bad when someone is young, close to the 18 mark... That’s when things get complicated for me, regardless of it being ilegal or not. And I think it’s also just about the power dynamic, independently of her being a part of the group or not!

Ron Fehr

Thanks for that insight, KT. I hadn't really considered that.

Domi E

Yep that’s a great point! He really fits perfectly as the villain of the season!

Domi E

Haha feels mean to say yes but I do prefer Willow over Xander at this point of the show!

Ron Fehr

It's nice that both characters still have potential for growth. I would love to tell you about future episodes, but of course I won't. I sure don't want to ruin your experience.

Ron Fehr

I was referring to Willow and Xander.

The Value of Life

Joss claims they didn't make the decision to make Willow gay until after this episode, but I don't think I believe him. If it was just Willow's one off remark you could write it off as a funny coincidence, but the subtle interchange between Buffy and Angel in response makes it pretty clear it wasn't just a joke line. Buffy reassures Willow that the vampire personality has nothing to do with the original human personality, Angel starts to disagree with her "Well actually...", and Buffy shoots him a look as if to say, "Willow's been through enough, don't freak her out even more." Angel catches the hint and immediately back peddles, "... that's a good point." That little exchange makes no sense to me unless they already knew where they were going with the character and this was the first hint in that direction.

The Value of Life

Lol, I loved how your predictions at the beginning were almost a mirror image of what actually happened. "I think this will be an alternate reality episode like The Wish, so we won't find out anything more about Faith and the mayor." So we get an actual sequel to The Wish, but crossing over into our reality. And we see what's happening with Faith and the mayor. The predictions at the beginning of each episode are sometimes one of my favorite parts of reaction videos because if the guesses are right it's like "Wow, I can't believe they nailed that!" And when they're wrong it makes me anticipate the reaction the moment they (you) realize the show is going in a completely direction than what was expected. It's great fun either way!

The Value of Life

I thought Alyson was amazing in this ep. She was effectively playing 4 different roles: her usual Willow, Vampire Willow, Willow pretending to be Vamp Willow, and Vamp Willow pretending to be Willow (with Cordelia). And she had to keep all the roles separate in her head. It would have been easy for Alyson playing Willow playing Vamp Willow to accidentally slip into the Vamp character, and vice versa, but she kept them all perfectly separate. It was so seamlessly done that the first time I watched I didn't even notice. I was so in the story that I just totally accepted that Willow and Vamp Willow were two completely different people. It wasn't until my 2nd time through that I reminded myself that it was all Alyson and it hit me how amazing her performance(s) were.

UTU49

Hey Domi. You've been using that GIF of Xander and Buffy hugging Willow for your Slayerettes Tier. Did you like that this is the episode where you got to see WHY they were hugging her like that? BTW: "Say. You all didn't go and do a bunch a drugs, didja?" That line is one of the things that originally hooked me on the show. The other thing is the relationship between Buffy and Faith, which I will only describe as "varied" in order to avoid spoileriness. ;)

Domi E

I actually only added the gifs after I had seen this ep! It’s just tooo freaking sweet I love it!! And haha valid reasons, I’d be hooked too!

UTU49

How about 30 Willows in 10 episodes?

UTU49

Oh that's good. Otherwise it would have been a tiny little spoiler. I was wondering if you were going to reach that point and then say, "Hey! This is the hug gif that I used at my Patreon page!"

Domi E

Aw thank you hahaha

Domi E

Yes. That. Give me that.
