Gold, as usual. You gals are great together.

Steve Quast

So far this discussion makes me want to eat cake and drop an anvil on Parker.

Steve Quast

"Not Kate. It was this other blonde bitch..." Oh, you mean Tina? Who DIED? Way to be sensitive, Domi lol

Steve Quast

Liam Duke is really good at analyzing episodes and taking things in, but he's the exception. Most people are just reacting the way normal people would. Different people just react different and their reactions are their own unique experience that they're sharing with the rest of us. AND... I just want to say this. When first Alley and then you began Buffy reactions, I was of the mindset that I wasn't going to add any more reactors to my Patreon for the time being because, well, you can't just follow everyone. Time and money become an issue after a while. But I enjoyed Alley's reactions and your reactions so much that I decided to make it work. So those people hating on Alley can go suck Parker's nonexistent $*#(&#%.

Steve Quast

And Passion of the Nerd IS NOT A REACTOR. He's had decades to watch, rewatch, think about, and analyze the show.

madfem

well yeah and Passion of the nerd has said multiple times that he is greatly influenced by Mark Field's Myth Metaphor and Morality book

I'm not much of a superhero fan, so I have not watched any of the Avengers movies, nor do I plan to. I have watched a few movies starring individual superheroes, but as a whole, I don't care for them.

Steve Quast

I never got into comic books so movies based on comic books have always been hit and miss for me. I really liked the Sam Raimi Spiderman trilogy back in the 2000's, the ones with Tobi Maguire, Kirsten Dunst (whom I fell in love with as Mary Jane), and James Franco. In the Marvel universe I really enjoyed the first Iron Man movie, but then I saw parts 2 and 3 and they were just okay. I finally watched the first Avengers movie within the last year, and it was okay, it was fine, but nothing to write home about. I haven't seen any of the others. So yeah, I pretty much agreed with Domi's assessment of the Marvel universe overall. Plus there are just too many of them. The cinematic scene is way too oversaturated with comic book movies and it's been that way for about a decade and a half now. Makes me want to go back to an earlier time with better movies, better script writing and acting, and a wider variety of movies. Hollywood has really dropped the ball lately when it comes to creativity.

Ron Fehr

I only like watching the movies with one of the Marvel characters, not all of them. I've seen the first Iron Man movie, and both Wonder Woman ones. I did enjoy the Tobey Maguire Spiderman films, but refrained from seeing the newer ones with Andrew Garfield. It didn't seem right to watch another actor in the role. I think I'm more into character-driven movies, and not so much a fan of the action.

Effie

I understand the points made about spoilers...I mean I still enjoyed 'Titanic' even though I know the ship sinks for example but in the case of Angel I have to say that the name alone is a spoiler and that is the biggest one that annoys me watching reactors. If a reactor knows from the beginning like Domi I'm ok with that but if it is spoiled midway for a reactor or if the reactor obsesses over said spoiler (which has happened) then it does take you out of the experience. The spin off takes some impact off the season 2 finale as well which is a shame because when this first aired I didn't know the future of that story and I'm glad about that. You can still enjoy the show obviously but seeing Alley find out about Angel in 1x07...that genuine shock is the most enjoyable part for me as viewer :)

Veronika

You guys with the teasing at the end...I just love to see you two talk about Buffy (or literally anything tbh :D) When you both expressed your love for Kate & Cordy...*chef's kiss* such an amazing collab! I can't wait for what you plan to do in the future! <3

Effie

I couldn't agree more about this comment. None of the Spiderman movies of late have topped the Sam Raimi one for me either and I suppose that's because those movies focused on the story more than the action (even though I prefer the fights in these ones too). I hated the Avengers...I think I fell asleep? The characters are just boring to me. I saw some scene with Aquaman and it looked like a commercial! Also I don't mind witty dialogue but I'm over the try hard Shrek humour and the bland characters. When I want to watch a blockbuster I'm having to go back to old movies like 'Speed' or 'Die Hard' where the writing was better and where the stakes were higher because I actually cared who lived or died. When Hollywood was harder to break into they actually had better movies. I am fine with popcorn movies but I don't want trash either....they have definitely lost their way...

Antonio

Yeah, I'm definitely on board with the saturation comments, and the superhero franchises have never really been my cup of tea (yes, I'm British) either. The only one I stuck my neck out to watch was Avengers Assemble, as I was like 'Ooh, Joss was involved so I'm assuming it'll be above average fare', but then I came away underwhelmed so figured these types of movies just weren't for me, unfortunately. That said, I've recently come across some DC and Marvel encyclopedias, and I can totally see why their universes would be appealing to many - in fact, I'd be more into finding the original comics than seeing any generic Hollywood fodder.

Effie

I can see why the universe is appealing too. But the thing about the supernatural or fantasy is that when you focus too much on the powers or the action instead of the fleshing out the characters it never works. It's the reason why I never connected with the X-Men franchise....without the human element there is no feeling of risk. Even if the superhero is somewhat invincible like Superman, what makes him interesting are his human relationships. It's the same with Buffy...it's cool she can fight but it's her friendships and her vulnerability that elevates the show.

Antonio

Yes, so in short.....style over substance.

Domi E

Thank you!! ❤️❤️❤️

Domi E

I support this decision!

Domi E

I’M SORRY 😭😭I sound so rude hahahaha

Domi E

Aw thanks Steve, I’m honored :)

Domi E

And that’s so interesting!! His videos seem so full of information and just overall good that I’m excited to one day watch them!

Domi E

Yup totally agreed with all of you in so many points!

Domi E

Yeah I’m the same way!!

Domi E

Of course!! Makes perfect sense!

Domi E

Aw yay! So glad you enjoyed ❤️

Effie

By the way Domi, once you've finished Buffy I hope you'll consider the original 'Charmed' series. It is also supernatural but that show balanced powers and relationships very well. Buffy and Charmed use to be my weekly combo growing up haha :)

Domi E

Oh so interesting! I’ll keep it in mind for sure since I’ve never seen it but heard about it multiple times!! (Nothing specific though)

Ron Fehr

I see Willow's point about what Thanksgiving meant to her, one culture wiping out another. It just made me wonder if it started out that way. I don't know if it was the pilgrims' original intention to dominate the native Americans.

Effie

Awesome. It's also from the 90s but the theme of family is big in that show and the lore is really great as well :)

Steve Quast

Honestly, I haven't seen any of the Spiderman movies past the Sam Raimi trilogy, so I can't comment on them. I do remember being disappointed at the time that they were rebooting the series (a reboot after just 5 years? really?) rather than continuing with the original cast.

Steve Quast

It seems more often than not that Hollywood is trying to wow us with their special effects. Wooww, look at this. More CGI! Wow, look at how powerful our characters are and all their abilities. They need to go back to real movie writing. Effie, I love Speed. Really good action movie from my teenage years.

Ron Fehr

Getting off topic, has anyone seen the Sam Raimi western The Quick and the Dead?

Effie

I agree...I don't know if they ever will get back to the golden years. They probably think that type of writing is dated now or something but the funny thing is when I watch reactors react to something like 'Speed' for the first time or any older movies many of them say "they don't make movies like this anymore".....but this generation is just a product of what they're exposed too. Many of them have a perception that movies now are good because of better effects, better representation but honestly I grew up with Buffy and many other shows portraying strong women....I watched many movies that had different ethnicities and decent effects (eg: Jurassic Park, Titanic) so I hope more people rewatch the old stuff and push for better films again.
