You're right about the name of Stephanie Romanov's character. It is Lilah.

Angel only used the term 'friends' whe referring to Cordelia and Wesley probably because he sensed that the word 'family' held some bad connotations for Bethany. It turns out he was right about that.

Still waiting for someone to write The Dangerous Adventures of Young Holland Manners.

I do not interpret Angel to be telling Bethany to kill her father, merely the writers making his language purposely vague to heighten the surprise to the audience when she spares him, with nothing to suggest afterwards Angel wanted any different outcome.

I have to disagree with you about Bethany. I think that Wolfram and Hart, being an evil law firm, wanted Bethany out of control. In that manner, she could cause more damage. Being able to control it means being able to stop herself from that happening. Also I don't think that Angel wanted Bethany to kill her father. By not doing so, she would be able to send the lawyers a message that they can't control her. And that's what Angel wanted, for Bethany to be able to make her own decisions.

My guess that MC Hammer had turned evil was slightly wrong.

I really like this episode. Cordelia is extra fun with the small quips and "You can't fire me, I'm vision girl." And the story of an abuse victim finding her strength really touches me. The actress playing Bethany does an amazing job. Wesley being the one to figure out it was the father is also poignant, knowing what we do about his own father since I've Got You Under My Skin.

Probably one of my favourites - this, along with "Have you now.." cements this season in my mind as a winner and convinced me to carry on watching Angel after what i thought was a mostly lacklustre S1. Glad you enjoyed it

I try not to look at any episodes as strong or weak. I just want to enjoy the show. Looking for problems or upsides just ruins the experience. If you enjoy the show, just enjoy it.

I know how rude this probably sounds but for 7 seasons (5 Buffy, 2 Angel) Darla has been calling Angel 'Dear Boy' so.. Demon child?

If I'm correct, Gunn doesn't have to worry too much about rent. As long as he and his gang control the monster problems in their neighborhood, the rent is taken care of.

Loved to hear your thoughts on this one! :) I love this episode and Bethany...and on this watch through I noticed some slight parallels between Bethany and Faith. Most noticeably their sadly abusive family life...but in the two scenes I've noticed the parallels the most is when Angel approaches Bethany in the garden and she gets defensive telling him he doesn't know what she's been through (Faith said the same thing to Buffy in 3x03) and then when Angel is talking with Bethany about other people and how he sees them try (Angel had this same conversation with Faith in 3x15). But maybe I'm only seeing things that are not actually there because I miss Faith :D

We've got LiLAh, DarLA, DrusilLA, CordeLiA. In the interest of efficiency, I'm just going to call them all "LA".
