Hey Domi, it's great that you're back to watching JoA and that you're really enjoying it. I've been "patiently" waiting for you to post this next episode : ) Maybe this is a bit of a stretch, but some of the things you were saying made me see that there was a theme of "trust" running throughout this episode. God wanted Joan to get Casper to trust her. Adam had to trust that it would be ok to show his real self portrait to his teacher. And Kevin's actions sort of broke the trust between him and his boss/girlfriend (ok, that one might be stretching it too far). And of course no episode would be complete if Joan wasn't put into some awkward situation causing her to have to trust God and do what he's asking her to do. Like I said, maybe it's a stretch, it's just something I picked up on after hearing some of your comments. Yes, this episode is very frustrating that there's no resolution at the end. We have to "hope" that because Casper was finally able to make a connection with Joan that when the next person comes along that can help Casper, she'll be more willing to trust that person instead of automatically rejecting them. I hope it's not too spoilery to say that there's more great episodes coming up.

Ha-ha, I am the complete opposite. I love open endings like they did here. Because it is like you said: This is how life works. So, I like when Joan does not know why, but even more if we as an audience also have to guess. But since you called me out, here is my head canon for Casper. I have led quite a few projects for my work, so I am a short-term pessimist, long term optimist. Therefore, I do not think that her father came back. My guess is she became scared and ran away as she does not trust adults (even well meaning). But God says that the connection with Joan is important. I imagine Casper goes through a rough patch for some more time but eventually asks someone for help, which improves her life substantially. And I love every time Joan asks someone how is she supposed to know why she is doing stuff. I can relate to that.

The Value of Life

I like the twist in this episode that we don't get to find out how things end up for Casper because it's so real. I have often spent months, sometimes years, trying to help someone get on their feet or get through a hard time, and very often they move on and I never get to find out if they made it or not, or if what I did made any difference or not. At least Joan had the assurance that she had done what God asked - that she had planted the seed that she was supposed to plant. For me, I so often am left wondering, should I have done something different? Should I have done more? Did anything I did actually help them? It would be nice to get a divine confirmation saying "You did your part, now it's someone else's turn to do their part in this person's life." Btw, Kevin's boss/girlfriend is Rebecca. And -fun fact - the actor who plays her is Sidney Poitier's daughter.
