I really, really liked your discussion of Buffy killing the vampire lady who Riley let suck his blood. (I haven’t watched your reaction to that episode yet, for uninteresting reasons, though I plan to.) When you mentioned her in this episode, I thought, “But she was a vampire!”, but the way you talked about it convinced me. Your experience with Angel, the series, has probably helped you in the compassion for demons side of things, even when they are not named Angel or Spike. I also appreciated how you have seen how the episodes, this season, which consider things from a specific character’s perspective have helped us to begin to really see who these characters are. This becomes so very important (though it always has been ) the last three seasons of the show.

I was waiting for this one, but I'll have to watch it later. Not enough time to watch it before work.

Oh, this one is good. Can't wait to see how you react to the council trying to push themselves back into Buffy's life.

I love this - Domi and free Portuguese lessons.

Notes. I love that the Knights of Byzantium have a completely different perspective from both Buffy and Glory. What ELSE could Glory have been?

What other cool ways could this episode have ended? 1. Quentin: “Glory's not a demon.” Buffy: “What is she?” Quentin: “She’s a dead Slayer.” Buffy: “Oh.” 2. Quentin: “Glory's not a demon.” Buffy: “What is she?” Quentin: “She’s a vampire queen.” Buffy: “Oh.” 3. Quentin: “Glory's not a demon.” Buffy: “What is she?” Quentin: “This is going to be difficult to explain, but Glory… isn’t actually real… in the same sense that you and I are.” Buffy: “Oh.” 4. Quentin: “Glory's not a demon.” Buffy: “What is she?” Quentin: “She’s a giant bowl of potato salad… that turned evil.” Buffy: “Oh.”

"Willow's a demon?!" Another episode full of great comic relief by Anya Christina Emmanuella Jenkins, who was raised by both a mother and a father. She's our little patriot lol. Buffy is so over the Counsel's BS.

OK, so here it is. The cheese man is Buffy herself. If you can remember the old "Farmer in the Dell" song with the ending, "The cheese stands alone.". Who else stands alone? Buffy. And the cheese represents her Slayerhood. I wear the cheese (being the Slayer) it does not wear me. Saying that she is not defined by being the Slayer,, she is also her own person. And "These will not protect you." Meaning being the Slayer will not protect her from life. "I've made some space for the cheese slices." showing how being a Slayer has taken up so much of her life. And at the end her Slayer persona is mocking her as she fights the first Slayer.

One joke that seems like it will be lost to time is Spikes favorite TV show being Passions. Passions is a now cancelled soap opera that aired on NBC and in a genre like soap operas where they are known for over the top storylines (evil twins and coming back from the dead) Passions was known for the being the most over the top and ridiculous. The show included a witch that had a doll that came to life named Timmy. It was bonkers.

We get to learn some Portuguese? Now I can't wait to watch. Lol

Bud Haven

I'd say Dark Shadows gave it a run.

Ron Fehr

Glory being a god would explain why she's held her own against Buffy so far. Were she just a demon, she would at least have had some injuries from their encounters. And she doesn't seem to be showing any signs of pain.

The way that Buffy handled the Council in the end was magnificent. She did not use violence, unless you count tossing the sword. She was very eloquent through the whole discussion. And she was even kind enough to spare the Council a little dignity by not rubbing it in their faces that she had the actual control.

Ron Fehr

Buffy's comments on the possibility of Rasputin still being alive brings to mind gossip of other people thought to also still be alive. Elvis Presley comes to mind, as some tabloids ran stories claiming that he was still alive. And while there is proof of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, I recall seeing something similar in the tabloids.

Goodlooking salad, that.

This is a great episode. I know a lot of people hate the watchar's council - and with good reason - but I kind of love them. Not in a "I love what they do" way, but in a "they're good for the story" way, and Mr. Travers is played by a _phenomenal_ actor. Good enough that I see his point, and even agree to some extent. He's waging a war against evil, and sometimes the goal does justify the means. Then of course there's the amazing moment when Buffy stands up to them. "Power. I have it, they don't. This bothers them." Absolute gold!

I think you're reading too much into Anya hiding she's a former demon - she's not doing that with EVERYONE. She's literally only proactively done this with exactly two groups: The Initiative, and the Watchers Council. I.E. People who indiscriminately kill demons. She wants to take precautions with people who arguably pose a very legitimate threat, if not necessarily a high one.

Ron Fehr

In a way I think Buffy saw his points, but the Council's problem was that they wanted to be in control. Buffy and her friends are the ones in the battle, and they deserve the final say.

Where are season 5 episodes 2-11?

Ron Fehr

The female watcher expressed some concerns regarding the 'civilians' that helped Buffy. Was her concern real, or was she just trying to get Buffy to doubt her decisions?

Ron Fehr

Something just occurred to me that I had forgotten about. The Council doesn't know about the chip in Spike's head. While he was being interviewed, there were watchers holding up crucifixes to protect themselves. Had they known, they would have realized that there was no need to do that.

Domi E

they’re all under the “season 5” tag!

Ron Fehr

Yep, her longest yet that I can remember.

UTU49

Hi, Ron. This upload was a month ago, so I thought I'd mention that I just read and liked your comments.
