Your comment about Teri's hair made me laugh internally. I get what you mean with the husband assumption, but consider two things (sorry, this is me being annoyingly pedantic): 1. I looked it up and California didn't institute domestic partnerships until 1999, just a few years before this show started; no same-sex marriage yet. So a stranger might reasonable assume she could be in a domestic partnership, but not for more than a few years. 2. A lot of middle-aged women, including plenty of straight women, had similarly short hair during this time period (at least in the US). I'm no fashion/trend expert, but I'd say it started going out of style for straight women maybe a few years after this.
