Yeah, Willow/Dark Willow aren’t two different people like Angel/Angelus are. But I do think Willow/Dark Willow is a split-divide identity/personality like Angel/Angelus is. The parallels are certainly there. But with Willow it was entirely a power corruption, addiction and vengeance storyline and it played exactly like that. I don’t think it would have worked any other way for her character. Especially if we wanted to save her character. So I agree with you if it went on any longer than 3 episodes it’s likely we wouldn’t have gotten Willow back. And we did want her back. So yeah, I like that it was done that way.

Girl4Music

Your breakdown of Giles this season. Wow 👌👏👏👏👏 I completely fucking agree with you.

Girl4Music

No, I’m not pissed off for the way you feel about Spike. That you can’t forgive him. I completely get it because I felt the same way when I first watched THAT scene…. However,… at the same time I do acknowledge that he isn’t the only character that does fucked up shit like that that is a deal breaker on the likability factor. And those other people have souls and are human. You mentioned Warren but you didn’t say anything about Willow. Which makes me think that you don’t see it that way - which fair enough, not a lot of people do. But even so - if you’re going to be this hamfisted about how much you hated what Spike did and how that has ruined the character for you - I would hope you would acknowledge that other characters that don’t have the soulless vampire excuse do it too.

Michael

So you can’t forgive Spike , what about Buffy who literally RAPED SPIKE

Captain Hammer

I'm very pleased that you were able to enjoy the season as much as I do. I was worried you'd get stuck on the loss of Tara and wouldn't be able to move past it. Now excited for season 7

Twenty years later, I still have yet to see a better television representation of depression than Buffy’s arc in this season. One of many reasons why it’s my favorite. I actually think adult life is the Big Bad this season, more than any particular character(s). It’s the constant through line.

Corey

Agreed. Let's not forget that Xander is responsible for Sweet and he killed people. Also what Xander did to Buffy when he was possessed. Technically there's a demon possessing William. I can't see William ever doing that to someone. Faith finally took responsibility and went to jail for the killing she did, can you see Willow going to jail? So many double standards for characters that aren't the main 3.

Girl4Music

And Willow who raped Tara

In my opinion, Warren was a small bad who thought he was a big bad. But you're right, he was the true villain of the season.

Ron Fehr

If I heard right in her Buffy Q&A, I think she said that she may change her views a little bit, depending on how having a soul now affects him. But for now, she just can't forgive him.

HuntingSwan

The Big Bad of the season is depression and Buffy finally 'defeats' it in the scene with her and Dawn.

Hosman

Warren thought he was all big and bad walking into that demon bar at the end. He quickly found out he was at the bottom of the pecking order as the vampire was about to kill him during the commercials lol.

madfem

when did she do that ?

madfem

People who get down on you for being pissed at Spike and not at other characters that have commited rape in the show are obviously being a**holes and totally ignoring how the whole framing of a scene can impact the viewer in a totally different way. The way Spike assaults Buffy is extremely violent and can evoke past trauma or fears that every woman has considering the world we live in. The other rape scenes in the show are all mystical and you sometimes have to stop and think about it to realize that's what they are. So yeah, I support you Domi, you're totally entitled to your opinion and feelings 💗💗

The Chosen One

Spike is a demon so that would still fall under mystical. And having an opposing view doens't mean they are pissed at her either. And ofc she's allowed her own opinion, nobody here would say otherwise. There is just the fact that Spike is a demon and soulless and evil. Which has been shown many times over obviously. It's not like that 1 action made him a bad guy. He already was.

The Chosen One

Season 5 is my favorite season by miles. Season 6 overal def ranks lower but it does have some of my favorite episodes and scenes. The (first?) big bad (trio) has so many ups and downs and in the beginning feels very meh. It does have some great Tara/Willow scenes, Spike/Buffy and Dawn scenes. And the ending was such a shock and super interesting. And the only ending I think that doesn't end with Buffy/team?

madfem

Nobody would say otherwise ? Just look 5 comments above mine. SMH

Excellent point about not being able to see William doing what Spike did. In all these years, I’ve never thought of it precisely that way. However regarding Willow vs. Faith, Willow killed essentially evil character(s). Faith killed people who could be described - at worst- morally ambiguous (in the case of the mayor’s assistant) and at best- a “good” person (in the case of the volcanologist). Not to mention almost strangling Xander. Of course, the writers took some creative license regarding what exactly they consider a punishable murder, but since Willow is one of the main three on the show, I guess they decided to explore that loophole.

Girl4Music

I was more so referring to rape/sexual assault than murder and Willow is guilty of that too with Tara. Successful rape/sexual assault. You probably never thought about it that way because you don’t separate and differentiate soulless Spike from ensouled Spike. Thus thinking of William doing what Spike did didn’t come to your mind at any point because you still consider Spike to be the same conscious entity as William if not the same actual person. In regards to Angel/Angelus, the consciousness isn’t the same. You can easily separate and differentiate them from each other because they’re clearly not the same conscious entity. You don’t think of Spike that way. He is only one conscious entity no matter what iteration of him he is.
