PURE NOSTALGIA and we’re just getting started, you’ve just entered the final chapter of the series, so expect plenty of nostalgic moments throughout.

I LOVE this season and I hope Domi does too. There is a lot to unpack, but I think it's a roller coaster ride that makes you want to get back in line when it's over. It's why we keep coming back :)

Matthew

I couldn't wait for you to reach the end. I get chills every time. Its about Power!

Hosman

One thing I thought would have been kind of cool is if they could have gotten some actors whose characters actually died in the school. For example the guy that Darla killed in the first scene of the series, the nurse from Go Fish, the teacher that was shot by the janitor in I Only Have Eyes For You, etc. Things that were said during that final scene with the Big Bads actually do make sense as the season goes on. Some of the best episodes are in this season in my opinion.

Welcome to the season of callbacks! Nostalgia will be firing on all cylinders for the next months, and I'm here for every little Domi breakdown down the way :)

Derek Garrard

No matter how many years pass, that final scene is still iconic af.

Spike never asked the demon to remove his chip, all he asked was to return to his former self, to make him what he was, so Buffy could get what she deserves

Bud Haven

When Buffy died in 1x12 the Slayer line transferred to Kendra. When Kendra died it transferred to Faith. There won't be another Slayer unless Faith dies. Going into this season they knew that it could be the last season, if for no other reason but contracts generally run for 7 years, and then everyone has to renew their contract. Sarah gave an interview in March of 2003 stating that she would not resign for another season, effectively ending the show. Other members of the cast said that this was the first they'd heard of her not returning. The first episode aired September 24 2002 and the last May 20 2003.

You’re not the first person to misunderstand the surprise twist at the of season six, Spike never went to the demon to have his chip removed, and then get tricked into getting a soul instead, and if you go back and rewatch all those scenes with him and the demon, listen to what he says, to the actual words that he uses, he says things like give me what I need to take care of the slayer, give her what she deserves, but he says these words in such a manner that makes you believe he’s talking about harming her. The way James Marsters delivers these lines was done intentionally to mislead the audience, his intentions all along was to regain his humanity so that HE could choose to be the kind of man he believes Buffy deserves, it took him going to the darkest of places to come to the realization that no matter how much he thinks he could change, his vampire nature would always win out, as it did in that bathroom, now the real question that I always ask myself is did soulless Spike truly understand what he was getting himself into by having the demon give him a soul, I’m not sure a soulless monster could ever fully understand what having a soul would really mean, but here we are, and no question that Spike is going through it right now.

Corey

Yeah which is where even the writers messed up a little in the Season 6 finale when she's talking to Giles, Buffy says "I knew everything would be ok, I knew someone would take my place" which they wouldn't have since Faith is still alive.

Kazz (Charmed4lifekaren)

As Others have said the scenes with Spike were purposely misleading, but the everyone involved in the show has made it clear that Spike always intended to get his soul back. I believe there was even a episode commentary that made it perfectly clear on the DVDs

Bud Haven

I just took it as she was taking the long view, that eventually someone would take her place.

Ron Fehr

My thought was the same, that he had gone to win back his soul. The very last scene of last season had me thinking that he hadn't realized how painful it would be. The thought that the demon tricked him by giving him his soul instead of removing his chip is kind of racist (I couldn't think of a better word) to me. That assumes that all demons are evil and never do anything good. That may be true for most of them, but we can't just assume they are all like that.

Steve Quast

Buffy is just a show in the same sense that Earth is just a planet.

Steve Quast

This episode and "Anne" are my two favorite Buffy season premieres. It's hard to choose between the two. "Lessons" is indeed very nostalgic, with bringing Sunnydale High back, implementing some old school Buffy scares, and of course that little walk through memory lane at the end. At the same time, it also shows us going to new places. We're already receiving little hints on what's to come, but so far the little we've seen and heard gives us only questions rather than answers. It was a joy watching you react to that last scene (twice!) with all of the previous seasons big bads shown in reverse order. I"m excited for the time when we can talk more in depth about it and about what's going on, but for now, all shall remain a mystery. I hope you enjoy season 7 as much as I do. It's one of my favorite seasons.

Michael Smith

IM SO GLAD YOU’RE FINALLY HERE!!!! Season 7 is my favorite season of television to ever exist! Buckle up… here we go!!!

Ron Fehr

The only thing that makes sense to me is that only the death of the second Slayer would activate the arrival of a new one. I would imagine that the council would have performed some kind of spell or something to prevent a recurrence. For them, it would be better for the first Slayer to die without the reprocessing of having yet another one to deal with.

Ron Fehr

Buffy being able to interact with Spike without it being wierd kind of tells me that she wasn't as traumatized by the bathroom occurrence as most people would be. Buffy had the advantage of knowing that she had the strength to fight off Spike, whereas most women can't fight off their attackers in that situation.

Ron Fehr

The end of your video had me wondering for a while, had you forgotten to read the next episode's title. Then you came back to do just that.

Rio de Tanana

If you think about it, the attempted rape scene was a waste of time. The fandom LOVES their pale males, so of course they would get big redemption storylines and get to have Buffy. Every reactor to this day either forgives Spike in the same episode or starts to. Minutes after saying that they would NEVER. There are Russian-novel lengths rationalizations, but basically Marsters was very pretty; nearly 40 year old men weren’t going that hard in the gym 25 years ago. There were all kinds of ways to get Spikey Bear’s soul back, but the show chose to minimize a real threat that more women than men face. To this day it’s all “It’s ok that he tried to rape her since we know that she would fight him off, so it wasn’t serious, tra la la, Spuffy4Eva!” Or a ton of pretzel logo to say that Spike is the REAL victim here. Spike with a soul is my favorite version of him; loathe the motivation.

The Chosen One

Huh, never seen people say that before. Mostly people just love the Spike character but not all his actions. And the fact that he is soulless/evil doens't justify anything but it does explain it. Sometimes people seek too much behind it. Angel is the same thing. He's killed many people and tortured people in much worse ways over a long stretch of time. People, including Buffy, don't forgive him perse but they see the fact that he did those actions while not having a soul.

Pauline Robertson

They must love less pale females then cause everyone forgives all that Faith did, including the attempted sexual assault on Xander. Spike was a demon and Faith is human.

Girl4Music

Willow is also human and a main protagonist but no one takes her to task for successfully raping/sexually assaulting Tara in ‘OMWF’. Mostly because it’s not framed as a rape/sexual assault scene but a romantic fantasy instead since it happens during Tara’s musical number - a love song at that. But drugging someone with magic just so they’re not mad with you and you can play out your little happy romantic fantasy with them and even engage in sexual intimacy all the while they’re under the influence is date-rape/sexual assault. Warren and Spike were stopped. There’s not even a chance Tara could stop Willow since she was magically mind-raped to be subservient to her wants and needs over her own. What’s often the saying with excusing date-rape? “She asked for it?” Yeah, that’s exactly what happened. Framed that way or not. That has to be the most egregious thing Willow ever does in the entire show and she wasn’t even Dark Willow then. But yes, let’s just blame the men for it. Let’s just condemn the villain and the soulless vampire for something even the heroes and ensouled do in this show. What Spike did was fucked up, don’t get me wrong. But the hypocrisy surrounding the whole subject is never not going to bother me. If any or all participating sexual parties cannot give true and full consent in the moment sexual intimacy is happening it is non-consensual. That’s not so bad when ALL parties cannot give consent since it’s mutual, but when one party is making sure the other party cannot… that’s rape/sexual assault. I don’t care about the circumstances, I don’t care whether physical force or struggle is involved. Non-mutual non-consent is rape/sexual assault! Willow may never have intended to do this to Tara but it doesn’t matter. She never stops herself from doing so even though she knows no sexual intimacy would be happening between them if not for Tara being under her spell. Even though she knows that Tara cannot give true and full consent because her mind has been wiped of information that would change her emotional state and therefore her informed consent. That is by definition - date-rape/sexual assault by deception and influence. But yes, let’s just go on and on about how Spike is a monster for attempting to rape/sexually assault Buffy. I mean he is - but he is not the only one who’s actions and choices are that horrifying and those others don’t have the excuse of being soulless or a vampire. Fully human, fully ensouled and don’t even appear regretful or guilty or even conflicted immediately afterwards.

Girl4Music

No. It’s not The Master but close. Very very close. It always throws me off watching that finale scene because after The Master you get Buffy and my immediate thought was “Wait. So is Buffy the Big Bad of the finale season? How?” But you’ll see. It’s clever what they do. Even though I don’t feel the Big Bad this season matches up to all the ones that came before it… there’s a reason why they show them all and it’s very clever.

Girl4Music

As for Willow wanting to be Willow again… I feel like if you turned into a homicidal freak of nature, you would want to be yourself again too even if that “self” is someone you’re ashamed of or hate because it reminds you of your loser or geek status. You’d rather that than be a monster. Giles kind of puts it into perspective though when he tells he that in the end we all are who we are no matter how we may appear to have changed. It’s all Willow - including the darkness. And she needs to reconcile with that. Her journey for this finale season is significant. I wouldn’t necessarily say she gets a redemption arc but she does have to come to terms with her losses and her dark side to the point where redeeming actions are something that she aspires to.

Finally nearly caught up after joining your Patreon after your YouTube video of I Was Made to Love You! On the download, guess I assumed that you at least had access to the DVDs for some reason.

Also, when you're in that sort of super intense toxic relationship, you don't hold your partner's actions against them as much as you would under normal circumstances. I know that's really hard for people to understand if they haven't been through it, but it's like the rules are different. You understand that they're out of their mind because you're out of your mind too. Obviously, it's all very unhealthy and I'm not advocating it in any way, I'm just saying that Buffy's lack of holding Spike accountable for the events of Seeing Red always made perfect sense to me. The writer's really nailed every aspect of mutually self-destructive romantic enmeshment.

StephanieB

"Dru" in the final scene... "You belong in the dark with me"... Isn't that what soulless Spike was always saying to Buffy last season?
