Weekly Update (10-21-2024) (Patreon)
Content
Public release seems to have gone well overall, aside from a few rare and hard-to-pin-down bugs. It's always nice to see the various metrics jump for a bit there. I've made some effort to promote this release, and I'm going to make a little more, but I think I may wait until after next update to redo the trailers with the new art again and invest in promoting them a bit. There are a couple of reasons for this, namely (a) Steam Next fest is going on atm, (b) a lot of people who would be interested in a political turn-based RPG are likely currently occupied with Metaphor: ReFantazio, and (c) I do have that other art thing I mentioned going in next version.
Progress has gone decently well this week despite it being busy. I got some mapping work done, and a lot of progress toward compiling tilesets for other mapping. There's a fair amount of work in that part of the game, pulling together the pieces I need to make a map. It's something I mostly enjoy, though. A lot of the tilesets from my preferred tileset artists come in forms that I don't consider usable as a whole, but with pieces that I can make good use of. If nothing else, it makes the sets of assets I use for maps unique even if I use elements of some widely used sets, because we have unique combinations,, plus my edits and recolors and such.
One of the bits I'm working on is a bit of side content that I probably don't need to spend as much effort on as I am (it's mainly available under a somewhat narrow subset of circumstances), but I do think it will be fun for those who get it, and especially fans of a certain "Court Sorcerer.'" I may share a few teaser pics of that next week in honor of the season. XD
[Note: Minor spoilers for the Alcinian branches of the latest update to follow.]
Aside from that, after some thought, sometime this week I'm going to edit in a few expansions to the consideration of Eris's offer on the Alcinian path, just to make it slightly clearer that certain aspects of that option are being considered by the party and that the option isn't a trap. My goal is that it be essentially an offramp to the Alcinian for those who have had seconds thought. It's suboptimal in several ways mainly to prevent it from being a preferred minmax option, but I want it to be clear that it isn't just an outright mistake (and I tried to balance the outcomes this way).
Anyway, for the moment, back to work!
