I made pretty good progress again this week:

Feeling fairly tired at the moment. There is a certain impulse to sprint and see if I can get this update done on the usual schedule, since it feels tantalizingly within reach, but I think that would be a mistake. I don't really have the energy to sprint, and I don't want to crash, haha. Still, I'm not as behind as I worried I would be at this point in the update cycle. I'm still in the Kharos section at this point somehow, this is going to be a long one. XD; Still, I am closing in on finishing it.

I have a better sense at this point of what I want to include in the update, but I'm still not 100% sure where it's going to end just yet. Depending on where I settle on, this could end up another quite long update. If so, I'm not really opposed to that, since I feel like having -only- a Kharos section and some extras doesn't really make for a satisfying update. And I do prefer to avoid overly combat-lite updates.

One thing this makes me slightly worry about is how unwieldy Kharos updates might feel once the castle town expansions are complete. This is something I'll keep an eye on as we go forward, and something I'll be open to feedback on when this update is out. I definitely don't want Kharos sections to feel like "too much," so if it feels like it's headed in that direction, I can consider streamlining what we actually explore of the other districts. At the moment I'm not too worried about it since a lot of the wordcount this update comes from other stuff, while the district isn't too much of it, but I just wanted to give a heads up that it's on my radar as a potential concern.

Anyway, in closing for today, here's an updated half-body of Despoina in her dress! I decided to ask Mimo to expand it, because is pretty. XD

I'm fairly confident we'll have the new Despoina art in in full for this update. But for now, maybe a small break then back to work!

Can you describe what inspires you for your game pantheon and different orders and their unique characteristics. Order of alive, alcina and salistrima are interesting from where you took inspiration for salistrima and shadow sorcery. As much I know , Roman or greek pantheon don't have this dealing system . Order of alive is most interesting . Magic through sex , Those who take oath to do no harm , even if they get attacked. I don't think anything like that exist in our world .

There are various places I've drawn my inspiration. A lot of it comes from the Arthurian novel "Mists of Avalon," which did a lot to inspire the religious conflicts. The idea of oaths or vows granting power is somewhat widespread, but it derives specifically from Celtic geasa or geas. which you find in the stories of many Celtic heroes such as Cú Chulainn. In general, I think it aligns with the idea that you can make a sort of "divine contract." Even in Greek and Roman stuff, you have people interacting this way with gods to a degree (see: https://acoup.blog/2019/06/28/collections-oaths-how-do-they-work/ for a discussion of vows and oaths in ancient religion). The Order of Salistrina is kind of related, in the sense that vows and oaths often do contain the idea of sacrifice. Say, a vow of chastity or a vow of poverty. But also, you often have the idea of "sacrifice" in dark magic, right? I wanted to kind of turn it on its head a little, and (a) make the sacrifice have to be meaningful to the user and (b) think about what that kind of thing would mean for a non-malevolent group. The sexuality of the Alivaens is kind of connected to the Mists of Avalon example I mentioned. In addition, the idea of sexuality and magic being connected is an old one in general, as is ritual sexuality. The idea that they are that level of pacifist, though, kind of derives from the idea of the Hippocratic Oath, and the idea that healers should do no harm. While they aren't religious per se, we do have groups like the Red Cross/Red Crescent that sort of promise to do no harm and only try to help the wounded. So I thought it was an interesting conceptual space to explore from a more religious angle (though you could say that the Order's pacifism is a political choice more than a religious one, essentially ensuring that they can't be a threat as a way to (a) not get too caught up in past civil wars and (b) convince the crown to support them without too much reservation; I'd say the reality is probably somewhere between the two reasons, including some of both).

Intersting, thanks for sharing . Order of Alcina's jealousy probably derived from medivial inquisition . Who wanted to destroy Pagans.

No problem. Yeah, in general their attitude toward such things is definitely derived from the conflict between monotheistic faiths and polytheistic faiths. While the Order of Alcina isn't actually monotheistic, they're evangelical and doctrinarian in a similar way (though, if Lorena is to be believed, many of the faiths they wiped out in some places were pretty nasty--but that's hard to prove one way or the other thing long after the fact, heh).
