Here is our ramble winner for last month!

I realized when uploading this that at the end I kind of touch on one of the current poll topics, but not in enough detail for it to matter, I think.

Thank you all for your patience in getting this one out.

Overused tropes/cliches in movies

I hate romcoms so much, agree on all points- except like hard agree with breaking up with a guy because he likes hiking too much lol hikers need to be with other hikers, I have seen the dynamic play out inside too many lesbian relationships, it doesnt work im telling you

Josh Liam

Hope you're feeling better Jenny! Thanks for doing what you do for us.

gossipgoose

I can’t wait for you to do a divergence series!! I love how dumb those movies are !

Luis

This ramble was so flung!

Luis

Did I use that correctly 🤔

Crystal Robinson

I hope your head is feeling better. As far as video's go I do love anything Star Wars :)

anthony grey

concussions are never fun... hope yr feeling better. can't wait to dig into this one.

Austin Baker

I think my favorite segments are the book readings, I wait til I can watch them with no distractions all the way through. It may take weeks for such an opportunity but it's way better that way. Trapped on an Island with Josh Hutchinson, or TWJH, blew my mind with the ending. Can't wait for this next one. I would be interested in a Star Wars Celebration video I don't really know what it is, have you made a video about it before? Oh and the skits! The skits are so good! Anyway, hope you get well soon! Concussions and bills are scary and no fun. I hope my $2 helped a bit. :)

Dewey

Yeah, I'm gonna need another 60 minutes of you analyzing and tearing apart crappy mass market horror movies. Your comments on The Prodigy and the Ouija series are spot on!

Karla Blinoff

I would absolutely kill for a Jenny "After" reading. For some reason that was never on my radar until it got brought up just now but I absolutely need it now

Peter

I'm out of the loop on the ramble videos, I think? Was there one for january?

Alex Dixon

Glad you're on the mend!

Olie Campbell

Does Return of the Jedi count as ending in a big dance party?

Mark kaye

Agree about needing another 60 min horror ramble - so insightful and funny. Anyway sorry to hear about the concussion - I’m sure everyone has already said this but be careful and take it easy

Lucas Hauswald

We don’t have a Disney point system here, please don’t feel like you need to work if you are sick. Like you mentioned yourself at the end of the video, Patreon is supposed to be a security for you. You won’t lose it just because you’re sick for a few weeks.

April Elizabeth

Personally, I’m not the biggest fan of Star Wars, although I’d watch the videos anyway, just because I find your personality funny & calming, so I’d prefer more book reads/miscellaneous videos :)

Carrie Marshall

I know when I think of dance endings, I always think of Labyrinth. Sure, it’s a movie with a lot of singing, and some dancing in it, but it’s always like “YOU NEED US AFTER ALL LET’S DAAAAANCE.” I just mostly accept it though, it’s just on par with the cheese of the movie.

Leesah

I totally agree with you on the whole Fault is in our Stars trope. Tho admittedly, there was also a wave of this YA genre in the way early 2000. Remember that Mandy Moore movie? A Walk to Remember? There was also one called Here on Earth with that dude from American Pie. I want to say there was even more... It was a thing for awhile. Like The Notebook for kids. It is really disturbing when you think about it.

Scott Ferrier

OMG concussions are no joke. Do whatever you need to do so you get better as your insights always amuse me and get me to think "that's what I was thinking to" but couldn't put it into words. Also the way you manage to match your background for the topic at hand always makes me laugh (with you).

Shaun Cheah

This was the one for January, I believe.

Eileen Nguyen

I'm so excited to see this video, but you can totally wait if you have a concussion! Feel better soon!

Luis

I'm really hype for any and all Star Wars videos! Solo Bad was the first Jenny YouTube vid I watched and I was immediately hooked. Plus with Episode IX opening this year the time is right for more SW content!

Kirsten Geddes

I love all of your upcoming video suggestions, especially the book readings. Also I was a HUGE Winx Club fan as a little girl and no one ever seems to know about them. I can't believe there's a theme park!! I would love to see you do a video on that series/theme park one day. Hope your head gets to feeling better!!

Shred Cadmium

I don’t think there need be a worry about length - it’s of the nature of a ramble that they last as long as they last, and they cover what they cover! I can’t speak for others, ofc, but I’m certainly more interested in a unique Jenny Nicholson perspective on this sort of thing than a longer video rehashing stuff that any fearful YouTube oik might have been able to produce. Both with that, and with the issue of topic selection on the main channel, I reckon the instincts (or rather instincts plus lots of obvious careful thought) are always spot on - it’s something I noticed when I first joined and was going through the Ramble back-catalogue: some proposed plans would come to fruition, and some would not, and it would all seem to work out just right. There’s a distinct absence of padding anywhere, and the level of quality & consistency across what is now a large range of topics is quite amazing. So, I’m sure the current Star Wars traffic jam will be managed just right, too. 🚦 Also, I thought the hair looked great! I’m possibly thereby just betraying that I don't have much of a clue about this sort of thing! - but it was literally my first thought when I opened the vid, so I thought it couldn’t hurt to mention.

Roman Àclef

So sorry to hear of your injury. Concussions and TBI are indeed no joke, and I hope you have a swift recovery. Also, I am sure I am not alone in feeling that your brain parts are really important to your craft, and should be given the utmost care. Can we add a clause to your Patreon contract to desist in your new hobbies of Roller and/or emolition Derby or whatever is causing the noggin trauma? This might affect me personally.

Maju Reis

Idk what she would make a video about the originals but now I really wanna know

Madi

Omg so ready for all these Star Wars videos I’ve missed them so much. Sorry about your concussion hope you feel better soon

Catrinonia Steliffay

I was assuming she added the "it's fine if it's a musical" caveat thinking specifically of movies like Labyrinth, because it's such a classic example of that. (And Labyrinth is not cheesy! Shut up!) (Yes it is) (Shut up!)

Ann Tracks

Take care of your head. The good stuff is in there.

Andrew L Butula

Look... I know people love your book readings, but I can't watch them. I'm overcome by sympathetic shame and have to stop. The fanfic ones are bad enough, but Trigger Warning... who would publish that? It's not a book, it's a cry for help. If someone hands you the manuscript for Trigger Warning you hug them and tell them it's going to be alright, you don't let the rest of the world see how frightened and isolated they are.

Lord Zer0

Ted Cruz approves this video.

Faith Tobin

Delighted as always to see your face, i hope you're taking care of yourself!! xx

Josh Draper

Your segment on YALit made me realize how ridiculous it is that young adult books always seem to be completely dominated by a trend. First magical children, then paranormal romance, then dystopian societies, and more recently terminally ill teenagers. Not that there's anything particularly wrong with wanting to write about these topics, but it's absurd how completely saturated the market gets whenever a trend has taken over. Like, can you imagine if there was only ever ONE genre available at a time for adult books and movies?

Neil Dutton

Shout out to The Unborn for having the most insane 'haunting backstory', including the sentence "We must finish what started in Auschwitz!".

Neil Dutton

Voting now for a six hour long The Originals video. Which moody psychopath will take a mortal under his/her wing and rule New Orleans for some reason?!!?

Alex Clemens

It’s not a children’s movie but Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom (1992) ends with a dancing scene. It actually fits with the narrative of the film but maybe this is where the idea started from or the trend began.

Jerry Nicholson

I was surprised that this topic won the poll since it so frequently comes up organically in your videos anyway. This was all new stuff though so it all worked out. When you talk about it being unsafe to travel alone, if you mean that it's unsafe to be alone in a strange city, then that sucks, but it's something I already knew about the world. If, on the other hand, you mean that it's unsafe at the event itself, then that's some fresh disappointment for me because I don't go to conventions. On a more positive note, I'm glad that you have some financial security from doing this. Your content brings a lot of people joy.

Josh Liller

It's almost as if teenagers are prone to fads.

Josh Liller

"If I get a head injury I can't get anything done." ...yeah, that's how it is for most people, whether they work alone or not. Hope you have a speedy recovery.

David Snyder

Is that a stuffed blobfish? hahaha

Gemma Hutchison

Or you could call out their shameless cash grab using their dead uncle's legacy? :p

Gemma Hutchison

Omg thank you for doing a video even though you have a concussion!! I hope you went to the doctor/hospital and feel better soon <3 !!

Aris Behren

Please do The Originals!! I'm so curious!

Matt Reynolds

So are we not calling fantastic beasts, Harry Potter knock off's? Personally I miss star wars knock off's. Also mad props for recording a video with a head injury.

Avon Gale

Feel better, Jenny! As for movies that end in dance scenes, my first thought was Labyrinth :D

anthony grey

maybe all ending/end credit dancing scenes are knowing/unknowing homages to baz luhrmann.

Alive_in_tucson

You could have taken a month off for the ramble video. Having a concussion is a great reason to take some time off! Take care of yourself young lady!!!

Steve Ray

To live is to Ramble; to Ramble is to live.

Steve Ray

Like Argo. Did that ever get produced, just to keep the Ayatollah guessing? If so, I would like to watch it.

Matt Reynolds

Sadly the movie they were producing in Argo wasn't, but a tv version of lords of light was announced in 2017. If it happens, I'm more excited for the marketing campaign then the show

Steve Ray

Whatever flavor of shame you're experiencing, it's certainly not sympathetic. The Johnstones (whether in this world or the next) are successful, happy, and proud of what they write and what they believe.

Steve Ray

I thought the hair had had some fancy color work done, but that she hadn't spritzed and flat-ironed and moussed it into its fully styled form.

TalysAlankil

Oh my god please make a Divergent video that book/movie series is my absolute favorite trash.

Sarah

I grew up and live near Phantasia Land, I just thought "Themeparks" where all like that. First time going to a reguler "here's a bunch of rides" one was really weird, like yes it's a nice rollercoaster or freefall tower, but whats it's story? where's the Drama? (Also if they close Hollywood Ride I'm stealing either the 30 year old Zombie Alfred Hitchcock or the one half-shark from the Jaws area. Whichever I can smuggle out in a stroller)

Tino

"Casper" (my first favorite movie as a child) also ends with kind of random dancing. It's after the ruined Halloween party/ball, so it makes sense a bit, but the three uncle ghosts transform into a band for no reason which makes it weird again. Also the song is about "Casper, the friendly ghost, a good friend of mine", so it's unlikely that one of the uncles is actually singing it. I didn't realize that was a strange scene until you pointed it out 24 years later.

Tino

Also props for pronouncing "Phantasialand" almost entirely correct! ;) (the German "land" rhymes with "hunt" though)

angel

Don't worry jenny, most of the time we can't even see your eyeshadow because the exposure on your camera is too high

Steve Ray

Not only can she take sick days with us, but if things get *really* bad or stressful some month, we can cover for her on Ramble duties. All we'd need is one poll to cover the Gambol* topics and another poll for us to choose who plays Jenni** . ------------------- * The non-trademark-violating pseudo-Ramble. ** The non-trademark-violating pseudo-Jenny.

jude rossotto

what you said about the the fault in our stars and the "misery tourism" concept really, really stuck with me. as someone who was a teenager with cancer, and was actually one of the support group members in that movie, it bothers me to no end how exploitative (and medically inaccurate) those movies get. it's wildly insensitive to romanticize that stuff. but they're also just comically bad and i cannot wait for that cole sprouse movie "five feet apart" to come out so i can see how much of a trainwreck it is

Steve Ray

I'm surprised they're letting that one go, just for all the story flexibility a gay best pet provides. Small-town girl needs to outshine snooty rich girl rival? The gay best pet knows cutting-edge fashion and makeup! Protagonist needs to win the talent contest? The gay best pet used to date THE hot Broadway choreographer, who will have his students background-dance for her! Protagonist needs to slip down a dark path? The gay best pet is reluctant, but yes, of COURSE he can deliver her first taste of the most AMAZING party drugs!

Ricm

A video on a book that is essentially published fan fiction is something I am all in for, however long the video is.

Sam Scott

You should watch the Land Before Time sequels

1000thghost

Early dance party ending... Return of the Jedi then made worse with the SE versions.

Gnome Choomsky

Nice Ted Cruz plush. Oh wait, did someone already use that joke? 🤦‍♂️😅

CPK Grownup

The irrational urge to comment and correct/explain her mixup even though this video is over 6yrs old

Lani

Oh man as someone who was a sick teenager, TFioS and its knockoffs have always pissed me off and you got it so right. It feels like a lazy writer trying to make a romance more interesting in its tragedy. The only one that I kind of liked was Everything Everything because it is mostly about the relationship with her mother and the psychological effects of being young and limited by illness. The romance was a catalyst more than anything

simrell

you touched on hannibal for like 2 seconds but suddenly i really want you to do a video about the comedy in hannibal. it's my favorite show but it's also pretentious and hilarious. can't wait to see more of your stuff now that i'm a patron <3 !

Steve Ray

I wish there had been Hannibal tie-in merchandise, books like "Genius From Insanity: How to Manage PTSD and Never Be Surprised," by Jack Crawford.

Nikki Smith

I hope you’re feeling better! Also, Paranormal State was also my favorite paranormal show, so that was cool to hear. Lorraine Warren has had an interesting life, even beyond the ghost stuff. Anyway, just joined here and am catching up on your videos, so I’m sorry this comment is quite late. I really do hope you’re feeling better. Concussions are no joke.

EmperorEthan

Looking forward to that Sick Lit video. The whole John Green knockoff subgenre is so funny to me because I am totally outside of it, I have a weird fascination with them in spite of never reading or watching them. I just like seeing the people who get excited for them.

VorpalThumb

The "Patrick Wilson Can't Catch A Break" Universe.

maya smith

Please I beg of you, do a video about fault in our stars knock offs. Please please. Especially since the movie that Cole Spouse is going to be in, 5 ft I think? I would love to hear you dissect that and talk about why its problematic.

Stephanie Fink

Jenny you need to go to Hobbiton! It's not a theme park but it's along those lines, and it's the most wonderful place on earth. I only wish it was a lot bigger, but New Zealand is kind of like one giant LOTR theme park if you do the Red Carpet Tours, and it's just spectacular. Also very expensive but hey, Patreon. 😁

Ranni

Can’t see the video

Anthony Xian

Still works if you click "watch this video on youtube"

Vespadesu

Harriet the Spy is the earlier dance number ending I can think of

SimmerRose

Jenny thinking that Insidious, Annabelle, and The Conjuring are all the same universe — and I KNOW it’s just because Patrick Wilson is the dad in both of them — is so unbelievably funny to me like Patrick Wilson being booked and blessed has genuinely confused people about his multiple cinematic universes (for what it’s worth, Annabelle and Conjuring are the same universe. Just definitely not Insidious lmao)

SimmerRose

I am straight up begging for the Horizons video. It’s been three years but PLEASE. I CANNOT BE THE ONLY ONE.
