I hope I didn't lose anybody in the days before posting it!

Jenny designs the Perfect live action Disney Movie

Comments

michael

I mean this sincerely but every time you go on a tangent where you design something to watch it sounds so SO much better than the original. I would love that version of Aladdin!

Autumns Patreon whatever

Man I love both Atlantis and Treasure planet, but I know it's more of my own personal taste because I find the worlds so intriguing that I don't care as much about the dumb slapstick. I think that it's been so long since Disney's done something truly interesting with their films (except for Turning Red, which I liked), that the stuff I'm drawn to most is their messy but interesting 2d films from the late 90's/2000s

Robert Romero Jr

Was hoping Robin Hood made the list. You did not disappoint.

Clovis Oldenberg

Your dislike of the sketchy comic book style you were describing reminds me of Walt disneys reaction to artists sketch lines showing after xerox method was invented.

Adam Herma

So far you're safe. I mean Disney would have to make something new anyway instead of sequel or live action remake.

The Latter Day Autist

I saw the live action of Tarzan and it was called George of the Jungle. 🤣 Hey, at least it had a horse in it. 😇

CPK Grownup

I still say “boy oh boy” because I started saying it ironically as a child and it just made its way into my day to day vocabulary.

Josh Liam

WIth this ramble being uploaded at night and starting with good morning I already love it, I get to pretend I live in England. :)

Karis Danielle

Gahhhhh, I really needed this today. Thanks, Jenny :)

Troy

I *liked* Brother Bear. *pause* Okay, I liked the Moose Commentary on the DVD of Brother Bear.

Jenna Cummings

All the ideas in this video weirdly combined in my head and I can never un-imagine PewDiePie as Milo from Atlantis. *shudders*

Josh Liam

I think The Black Cauldron as live action would be great! After all, it's not like the original set a high bar.

Skye Wilson

Agree with the Atlantis riff! Especially since it's basically a bloated, animated version of Stargate. Which did become a great lore-heavy TV show... XD

Tyler James

If you're not going to do a full review of Aladdin, I'm glad us Patrons get a mini review mixed in with the ramble :)

matt pierce

The image of the caterpillar by the fire in The Fox and the Hound sounds familiar to me too

Eric MacMillan

Hey Jenny, I am wondering if you would ever consider going back to the Patreon schedule you had at the beginning of last year, where the ramble comes out in the first week of the month, suggestion message around the 7th, and poll around the 15th. As it stands now we are a month behind on rambles because we didn't get one in April, and a month behind on the poll since we didn't get one last month. Maybe its only me, but I get anxiety wondering if/when we are going to get the content we paid for. Hope this doesn't come off sounding too whiny, I am always very appreciative of the content you give us. I just think the old schedule helped to keep everything on track, and it was fun to be able to anticipate when we would get each reward. Just hoping you'll consider it, thanks for hearing me out and for another fun ramble.

Shawn Hunt

I loved Brother Bear!

Ryan Coomes

So excited about the Star Wars Land video, it really is gonna be lit. And yeah I do the same thing with ironically using dumb slang terms until I realize that I now say it unironically, but then I go back to saying them ironically in some strange ebb and flow that I can never escape from. Also that accident sounds terrifying, really nice to hear that you were relatively okay and things worked out in the long run.

David Arceneaux

Holy crap, it's one thing to be in an accident when you're driving, but when you're parked.

Luis

Those were some great ideas and I'd love to see your Tiki Room movie come to life! Thanks for making this while sick and omg your concussion story :( Glad that turned out okay as well!

matt pierce

Millie Bobby Brown as the hound (don't remember his name), and Sadie Sink as Copper

Scream Queen Wannabe

Tbh. I loved treasure planet and Atlantis. My dad loved Atlantis too. It was the only one he was adamant we watch. I think it might’ve been he liked stargate a lot.

Scream Queen Wannabe

Also if I chose a movie from Disney to remake I think that the great mouse detective OR Snow White would be interesting. I mean no one touches in Snow White but so many princesses have been done before. So why not. Yolo. And great mouse detective was my fav as a kid. I know every word to it. I think it would be cute to reanimate :)

Patrick Lee

you should make a video (or full ramble) about the tiki room movie!

Blue Corn

After hearing Jenny talk about the animation in Atlantis The Lost Empire. I wonder if she saw Spider-Man Into The Spider- Verse?

PogieJoe

So glad you're okay from your accident! Thanks for putting in the hard work every month!

Joe Bloe

I assumed the concussion was #horsegirlproblems. That there was a horse that no-one could control but you had a special bond with it and your dad told you no but you tried to train it anyway and it was going so well but then it turned out your dad was right and that horse just wasn't trainable and you got hurt. The horse didn't mean to hurt you but it's just his nature, your dad was right, you learned an important lesson but got a concussion out of it.

Blue Corn

They already said theyre doing live action Snow White. Look for it by 2022. Seriously

Katie Gogerty

The Kurt Russell casting as Amos Slade (the angry hunter- definitely did not remember his name) has a bonus! It follows the trend of someone from the original being in the remake. He voiced adult Copper! Also, you did get the name right for Widow Tweed

Josh Marjonen

Wow glad ur okay. Wouldve been more tragic than stephen kings car accident tell ya whut

Allessandra

The “oh my god dumbo” made me think that we were counting on dumbo to fly to Antarctica and save Aladdin

es arg

lmao does anyone remember that warner bros tarzan movie from a few summers ago. margot robbie was in it. oldest skarsgaard too

Jerry Nicholson

An eye for an eye makes the whole world sentient furniture

Frank and Beans

Good luck moving! Looking forward to the streaming! Thanks for all the work you put in!

Matt Reynolds

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks remakes work best when the original film didn't quite work. In that spirit I'm on bored for a live action remake of treasure planet or Atlantis the lost empire. I'd throw in the black cauldron too.

Brandon Blackmoor

"The kids from Stranger Things ... pick two, I don't care. I don't know their names." That is the funniest thing in this video so far.

Steve Ray

You come off as tremendously whiny, Eric. Rambles are *not* an upstream deliverable that you need to do *your* job, so the entire framework of "keeping on track" is absurd.

Shaun Cheah

♫ When you swim in the sea and an eel bites your knee, that's a moray ♫ ♫ When the jaws open wide and there's more jaws inside, that's a moray ♫

Luis

Agree 100% no one works harder or creates as much great content as Jenny. Main channel videos, patreon videos, we get so much! Plus regular schedules suck and are boring my irl 9 - 5 is a testament to that.

Steve Ray

♫That's Truuuuue!♫

Brandon Blackmoor

"Song Of The South" was based on stories compiled by a white man, yes, but they were the stories of African-Americans, and Harris tried his best to tell them faithfully. Joel Chandler Harris was a journalist who actually cared about the people whose stories he was sharing. It's easy to say, "Oh, those should have been shared by African-Americans," but at the time, that wasn't an option. If he hadn't collected them, those stories might be lost now. As for the movie, it is not the racist propaganda that people who have never seen it assume it to be. If anything, it's the opposite. For example, it shows a world where black and white children play together -- in a movie made at the height of the Jim Crow era. The songs won awards, and the wonderfully talented James Baskett won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Uncle Remus -- the first African American to win one (he wasn't allowed to accept it at the main ceremony, due to idiotic 20th century racism). The worst thing that can be said about the movie is that the live action parts are *dull*, aside from when James Baskett is singing. So, yeah, you are spot on in having your live-action remake skip the original live-action parts. I know it's just a dumb Disney movie, but I wish people recognized that "Song Of The South" was a small step *forward* for our society, at a time we really needed it.

JoeySnowyNoey

I'm up for Treasure Planet and Atlantis, and also Disney's Tarzan because of the fact that they are not musicals. That has been the biggest downfall of these new live-action remakes for me. Especially, Beauty and the Beast!

JoeySnowyNoey

I haven't really got into watching streaming but if you do it, I'd tune in for sure! Glad you're okay from your accident, and can't wait for the Star Wars Land video, it was fun hearing you on Podcast the Ride this last week!

tim_schu

Just want to stand up for Agents of SHIELD. Good show! Best of any of the Marvel/DC shows. It had a slow first season because they needed to wait for the Winter Soldier Hydra reveal before they could show all their cards.

Luke

i'm excited to watch this but I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE YOUR GALAXY'S EDGE VIDEO

Buddy Crotty

The opening sequence of Tarzan is the best 10 minutes of any non-Pixar Disney movie! My girls and I watch that and Disney's Robin Hood opening at least once a week...some days it's the only way to get them out of bed, lol.

Alexandra Paul

I would watch a Star Wars trilogy length series of videos on Galaxy’s Edge

Monica McFadden

I too feel like it makes the most sense to remake the Disney movies that were kind of bland or sucky. I'd remake The Black Cauldron, The Rescuers (just the original one, the 90s one with the giant eagle was fine), and The Great Mouse Detective (which was "okay" but could have been better). All three were based on books series that Disney didn't do justice to, IMO.

Dee Crosier

My first thought when I saw this topic was: A live-action version of "Tailspin", but with humans instead of animals. I know that wouldn't really be the same show... I just wanna see some wacky sky-pirate hijinks, dagnabbit! Meanwhile, this ramble was much more harrowing than I expected it to be. Thank you for soldiering on through your throat problems, and I'm sorry to hear about your car accident. I'd assumed the concussion was related to having a giant Porg looming behind you at all times, but apparently not. Glad you're okay, and that the compensation came through. Hope the move goes/went well, and that you’re having/had/will-have an awesome time at the Galaxy's Edge! :)

Evan!!

Agents of SHIELD is good but it starts pretty terribly and despite what other people say, it does not get good at the point people usually say it gets good. It gets good later.

Neil Dutton

This is the extended universe we are all craving.

Scream Queen Wannabe

I don’t look up upcoming films. Keeps me on my toes. I don’t watch trailers either. I just see a poster and say I’m gonna see that. Then see it when it comes out if I haven’t forgotten about it. I don’t like your meanness. :(

Daniel Stephan

SoCal dialect is a real thing PEOPLE. P.S. Jenny sorry to hear about the accident but I’m glad things worked out okay

Tino

Thank you for telling about the accident! Somehow I thought you might have gotten attacked. But how was your friend in the passenger seat? You didn't mention if they were hurt, too... Also did I miss it or did you forget to put "The Jungle Book" in your ranking? That was an excellent Live-Action remake!

Neil Dutton

End card for Beauty and the Beast. The menacing shadow of a candelabra falls over the text as maniacal french laughter rises. A question mark appears.

Casey Connor

Please stream the Beastly game you could be the #1 speedrunner!

superb lobster

I don't know if you've listened to the whole video yet, but she had a concussion in February due to a car accident. I think that was the month when she didn't make a ramble. That's an acceptable excuse to take some time off IMO.

superb lobster

Glad you're fine after the accident and I'm really looking forward to streams!

Eric MacMillan

Thanks for being polite in your response Jonathan. You make a good point. I wasn't trying to give her a hard time, just trying to express why I liked the old schedule and ask if she would consider going back to it. Really not trying to cause any problems or be rude, but my apologies to Jenny if it came off that way.

Eric MacMillan

Superb lobster, I know there are many reasons she might miss rambles and I feel bad if my message came of as rude. To clarify though, you are right that she missed the February ramble but she made up for it by posting 2 in March. There was also no ramble posted in April. No reason to think she wont do the same this month as she did in March. I was just trying to offer my feedback on why I liked the old schedule. I'm really sorry to Jenny and everybody for not considering my words more carefully.

Luis

The redemption arc banner would've gone great with the beauty and the beast pitch lol

Blue Corn

The big thing to get out of this ramble is that Jenny has a Tiki Room script

billythedoor

Would be super down to watch streams of weird licensed ps2 games that make you ask "who is this for?"

Snail

Not sure if you're taking suggestions on games to play, but Defunct is essentially a BB-8 game.

Dundough Breadbox

WHAT A RAMBLE! "... for that Sweet Furry Money" that and "explaining what Unknown means." Feel better, Jenny.

Adam Best

Really enjoyed the video! When I was watching it, I started thinking of what I would do, and my first thought was Great Mouse Detective, but then I realized that I would consider any Ratigan that's not Vincent Price far inferior. Oh, and congrats on getting Samantha Barks name right! I agree that she'd be a great Belle! I will 100% admit that I do that kind of thing with fancasting a DC fan thing I'm working on, right down to fancasting the kids from Stranger Things in various roles (though I do try to go for unknowns when I can :P ) Looking forward to the Galaxy's Edge video!

Steve Ray

Blue Corn is a good-natured fellow, and I'm sure his closing "Seriously" was short for "Seriously, friend -- I wouldn't lie about such good news!"

Steve Ray

Rubik: The Amazing Cube Monchiichiis

F W Pancakes

live action Toy Story except it's now a Blumhouse style horror film. Creepy uncanny valley CGI Woody/Tom Hanks spends the first half of the movie trying to convince creepy CGI Buzz that he's not a real Space Ranger but actually a demonic plaything who's job it is to terrorize Andy (Stranger Things kid) at night

1000thghost

What about Jungle Book? Did you like it?

Bill Lehecka

Just caught up on this... Holy crap Re: your accident. Glad you weren't seriously injured and that you're getting a new car out of it.

four or five owls

hi jenny!!!! here after your endgame video, just want to say thanks for being so real with us and also (not that you need our permission lol but) please keep making the content that you’re excited about!! my favorite video of yours is the forces of destiny video, bc even though it wasnt a topic i ever thought i would hear dissected like that, you were so thoughtful and passionate and were clearly having a lot of fun with it. i enjoy all your videos regardless but your well-being and your satisfaction with what you’re doing of course comes first, and also as a happy side effect makes your videos even more fun. glad you came to the realization that you didn’t want to finish your endgame review and didn’t make yourself do it, and grateful you shared your thoughts with us. you rule

Rainbow Gummy Fish

Apparently I'm finally old enough that a mention of the Velveteen Rabbit doesn't make me feel deeply traumatized.

David Gallagher

I thought Disney's Robin Hood was long forgotten. Young me was sooooo onboard with the Robin hood movie, it seems like the poster was up in the "coming soon" window of the theater for about 2 years. SO they would get the sweet sweet furry money and mine.

Annette Huckell

Looking forward to an excruciatingly deep-dive look at Galaxy's Edge!

Lily DeHart

Hi! I just started watching your patreon because I had a lot of time to watch videos after I got my wisdom teeth out, thank you for making a week of no crunchy food enjoyable

Jacqui Sutherland

i realise this video is three months old and you probably do not read the comments but i just want to say - there was a direct to video atlantis sequel i loved as a kid that was very very clearly the first three episodes of a tv series they wanted to make but couldn't get greenlit slapped together as a little anthology thing. I loved it so much as a kid but it pretty definitely doesn't age well - but yes i am fully on board for an atlantis tv series!

christopher wilco

in my early 30's I learned i did NOT have asthma for the last 20 years, despite having every symptom of it. but this at least explained why an every increasing amount of medication never seemed to help. the good news is my lungs are PERFECT, bad news is my vocal chords can mimic asthma, and do not respond to anything, and can just suddenly get x1000 worse out of nowhere. I just wonder how many others are like me and think they have asthma for their first 30 years.........

Z

When I was a child who hadn't developed critical skills yet, I had a dvd of the sequel to Atlantis that I watched on repeat endlessly. I have never seen the original and also don't remember the plot of the sequel at all.

Z

Also my ideal remake would be Beauty and the Beast but gay. The original movie is so strongly coded to be about being LGBT in an extremely hostile environment, and how societal oppression and trauma makes some people feel and act like monsters, and that accepting community and love is the way to stay human and hopeful. So just, like, make the movie that.

Tyler

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. starts off kinda rocky (first half of season 1 is especially boring), but it actually gets really good! And even better in the very late seasons

Tracy Christenson

I get really tired of all the sequels and remakes of things that Disney does. I have a book blog where I talk about vintage/nostalgic children's books, and I have a list of books that I'd like to see made into movies that haven't been. Although, about a year ago, December 2019/January 2020, I had what I thought was a great idea, for Disney to make a movie about a lesser-known children's fantasy book called Charlotte Sometimes (the song by the Cure of the same title is actually based on this book and contains lines from it). Charlotte Sometimes takes place at a British boarding school and has a lot of the same vibes that classic Disney live action films have - spunky heroine, time slips, themes about discovering your personal identity, unexpected friendship, coping with loss, lives affected by wider world events, etc. It kind of feels like Back Home meets Time Flyer (if you know those movies) meets Freaky Friday. The problem with that is that the girl in this book goes back in time in the history of her boarding school and has to temporarily, off and on, live the life of another girl in the past of her boarding school, which is fun and exciting, but the time period she goes to is the end of WWI and the 1918 Influenza Pandemic. Around the time that I read this book and was excited about it, I didn't know that we were heading into a pandemic of our own, so I'm not sure that a historical pandemic movie would fly now, but it still is a really good book. https://forgottenstoriesweb.wordpress.com/2020/01/01/charlotte-sometimes/

Tracy Christenson

I'm also now a little afraid to suggest other movies Disney should make in case I have some gift for seizing on movies that are equally prophetic.

Alex Andra

It was pretty heavily protested by the NAACP and other groups when it was released. I am all for not judging small steps forward from the comfort of an era where those steps forward worked, but I think it's important to acknowledge that it's not just that the movie is considered racist now, but it was also considered racist at the time.

Alex Andra

"Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., a congressman from Harlem, branded the film an "insult to American minorities [and] everything that America as a whole stands for."[76] The National Negro Congress set up picket lines in theaters in the big cities where the film played, with its protesters holding signs that read "Song of the South is an insult to the Negro people" and, lampooning "Jingle Bells", chanted: "Disney tells, Disney tells/lies about the South."[76] On April 2, 1947, a group of protesters marched around Oakland, California's Paramount Theatre with picket signs reading, "We want films on Democracy not Slavery" and "Don't prejudice children's minds with films like this".[77] The National Jewish Post scorned the fact that the film's lead was not allowed to attend its premiere in Atlanta because of his race.[78] Criticisms in the black press largely objected to the reinforcement of stereotypes, such as the subservient status of black characters, costuming, the exaggerated dialect, and other archaic depictions of black people."
