Hi guys, this ramble got regionally blocked on youtube, so I'm uploading it here to patreon's built-in player for the time being. (It's Cyrano's fault.)I know some people prefer or need youtube features like device casting, timestamps, or auto-captions, and I'm disputing the claims so the youtube version should be unlocked in the next few days pending review. It looks like it might be available in the United States; here's the link if you'd like to try to view it there now: https://youtu.be/tLG7zDG3k5Y

The youtube link is working in the UK :))

Marshall

Am I weird in preferring the patreon video player?

David Grant

Unblocked in the UK as well

Jimini

Can Confirm: My VPN is set to the US and I’m currently able to watch

Zhed

....... yes.

Luis

YouTube link works for me and I love the snowman hat!!

Shoeboxjeddy

Not a complaint, just an update, YT says this video is "For Kids" in the US, which prevents a download (what I wanted to do for ease of use).

Will_K

Lawyered !!

Andrew Mitchell

How dare you release any content that isn't talking about the things I want you to talk about! Also, why isn't this 6 hours long? /s We are big fans of you and your thoughts here in this house, Happy Holidays and thank you for your positive and thoughtful content!

Giulia Villa

Unblocked in Italy! Thank you for the video :)

Keith Hasperg

Jenny did not start the video by making any funny sound effects. An era is ending. A new era begins perhaps, an era of funny hats. The future is bright!

Madelyn Moss

That's funny I was going back to your old ramble videos because there hasn't been a new one in a while

Austin F

bummed that none of the disney princesses in wreck it ralph 2 changed into the "Daisy Drunk" shirt

Michael

Usually I can watch these on youtube as an unlisted video. Is that feature gone?

Mae

insanely accurate vanellope voice, i'm stunned

Not currently blocked here in Canada. Yknow I kinda liked Cruella when it came out. Probably because I had very little in the way of expectations of it. I mean it trying to be a weird queer punk anarchist Vivienne Westwoody sort of vibe thing while also being a Disney movie was obviously a joke and would never work, but it was cute to see the attempt. That said at the time I had kinda somehow dodged really seeing much Emma Stone stuff and so she didn't really stand out to me. But now after watching what's been released of The Curse so far holy hell can I not see her in Cruella and buy her for a dang second. Way too weird now. Totally doesn't fit. Yowza.

Ann Parker

Say what you like about Wreck it Ralph II, but the scene where thousands of teeming, wriggling, minuscule Ralphs agglutinate into one giant Ralph still made up of writhing micro-Ralphs is truly not what I expected and deserves some respect

Lucy (sprints)

I watched Cruella and now can't remember the actual plot but what I do remember is it was way too complicated, and my friend and I convinced ourselves that the movie would reveal that Mark Strong was actually Cruellas father, and he was bald because he also had her hair, and then there wasn't really a Mark Strong reveal and it was a massive letdown. Still think he should have been hiding his crazy cruella hair by shaving his head every day.

Keirik

I watched Marry Me on a plane like 6 months ago and all I remember is the "marry me marry me say yes marry me marry me say yes" song. by which I mean it's been stuck in my head ever since

John Ford

Plugging the excellent Leo Vader video "were the magicians in Now You See Me wizards or what?"

Luis

"The judge" Hahahaahaaha bravo 👏 Wait Pizza Hut still sends coupons?! How can I get these???

Clio Heard

i love the part where the dead boyfriend comes back as a ghost to give his approval on her new relationship.......it's just like warrior cats.............

Heather VP

Apologies if this has already been addressed, but regarding the miserable drudgery of scrubbing through all of the Starcruiser footage to remove the faces of strangers, why not pay someone else to do that? It seems like a task that can be delegated. Anyway like I said, if it's been addressed already nevermind. Otherwise I'm stoked for trapped in a animatronic with Josh Hutcherson!

Emma H

I wouldn't mind hearing twitter stuff repeated since I haven't used twitter in quite a while and I was never on it enough that I would've seen the majority of your tweets. You could do a poll to see how many people don't mind repeating stuff you've tweeted.

Where I come from "cooler" is a euphemism for prison. So I like to think that this is your channel from your very interesting prison cell

Jazz Me to the Moon

To add to the rap in the Cyrano movie; in the original play, Cyrano has wit, but he is also really eloquent. It's not just that he was bright rather than he expressed himself "really well" for a lack of better words. This rap is the funniest thing I've ever seen. It's not only bad in and of itself, but major insult to Cyrano as a character. It seems to me that it was inspired from the scene in the french movie Cyrano de Bergerac where he replied to a plain insult with different way his opponent could have said that insult more effectively. If interested, you can search on Youtube for "Cyrano de Bergerac - Tirade du nez Gerard Depardieu (Eng sub)"

demonsita

i died with the perfect penelope impression

Terence Digan

After seeing this and the Watcher Podcast Jenny was on, I propose this prompt for a ramble: Jenny Watches ET: The Extra-Terrestrial.

Cheeseborne

Even though the editing takes longer, I appreciate that you are taking the time to protect people’s identities in your videos. Especially the kids. Lots of respect for you, Jenny.

Cheeseborne

Same. I don’t have a twitter so some of that would be interesting to hear

Who Are These People

I think the main way that Jenny compromises her artistic integrity is that she refuses to end on a downer. I'm thinking of a re-edit of this month's video where I put the downer back where it belongs, at the end. Well, maybe I'll work on it after my new holiday tradition of rewatching Jenny's Supernatural extravaganza.

so what's worse, the mirror box in now you see me or sherlock being tricked by there not being a window in sherlock s4?

ignacia maría

absolutely fantastic vanellope impression

Audrey lopata

From what little I remember of Sherlock S4 (I tried to block it out)- everything was worse. No contest.

Elisabeth C

The funniest thing about the Peter Dinklage Cyrano rap is that basically the same scene happens in 8 Mile 😂 Only it's actually good. Eminem shuts down his rap battle opponent by saying that he is broke, he does live in his mom's trailer, etc. Emotional slam dunk and then the movie ends

Antalion20

Thanks for the video, and hope you have a lovely holidays and New Year's. See you in 2024!

Jen Petrella

excited for the FNAF video! would still love to hear your fantastic beasts takes at some point. happy holidays!!

tofu nugget

Happy holidays Jenny! (And all fellow patrons!) can’t wait for the FNAF video :D

Mickey

The fact that I know nothing about Warrior Cat makes this comment extremely funny to me. I never want context.

Ash Gabrielle

As someone who doesn't have a Twitter, I for one do not mind you repeating yourself here, lol.

Tabby

Yeah, I used to check your Twitter every once in a while despite not having an account, but now that's not an option.

Sonya

"MARRY ME, MARRY ME. SAY YES! MARRY ME, MARRY ME. SAY YES!"

Brian Webb

I really do dislike that series. Everything moves so fast and those huge performances events that nobody bothered to mention before or seems to prepare for...

Sean Boerger

I love how most of the tricks they don't even begin to bother explaining. It's like someone saw Oceans 11, but was on their phone during and missed a bunch of things. It's baffling in just the right schlocky way for me.

Lindsey Keefer

I’m not proud of it, but I marathoned every Hayley Bennett film after seeing Cyrano 😭 I did love her in Swallow!

Captain Langosta AKA The Yellow Dart AKA Kyle

Yes, absolutely, 100%, but only on the condition that she lie and instead watch Nukie or Mac and Me, simply so she can review E.T. while still maintaining the prestigious honor of never having actually seen E.T.

Jaz Mei Luo

tbh i also think she should keep the prestigious honor of never having seen ET. i mean. imagine the rounds of 'never have i ever' she could play! she could get most everyone in the room by saying 'never have i ever seen ET!'

Tabby

Now You See Me isn't "The Avengers, but magicians," it's "Leverage, but magicians."

Jaz Mei Luo

one time Now You See Me was playing at a restaurant i was in, but of course, it was too loud in the room for me to hear anything. so i was just puzzled watching the baffling images unfold on the tv before me. i couldn't stop laughing as jenny explained how the movie was even more insane than i imagined.

Captain Langosta AKA The Yellow Dart AKA Kyle

I love how the snowman hat has a smiling coal mouth, but when covered by flipping up the brim, it instead looks like it has a huge, unhappy, frowny mouth. If Jenny can see, the snowman is unhappy; if the snowman is happy, Jenny cannot see. Peak tragedy, better than Cyrano de Bergerac in every way.

Shan

Yeah I dipped out of Twitter a year ago because, y'know. But you made me realize I miss your tweets! I still see the civil war missives one circulating the gram every once in a while.

a star is storm

i started scream-laughing into a pillow during the cyrano rap when he said “guess what else when bluebirds land on me they shit themselves and die” BARS!!!

Dan Gibbins

Things that would be worth unpacking in Now You See Me 2 if that video were ever made: 1) that Lizzie Caplan strolls in saying "I'm the new female Horseman," showing how interchangeable the writers felt women are; 2) that they were so eager to replicate the twist ending of the first that they came up with a NEW secret benefactor that was ABOVE the previous one and had been there the whole time and it made less sense than General Hux being the spy; 3) surprise revealing that a villain had been hypnotized by literally screaming alliteration in his face; 4) as Dan Harmon yelled about once, that the writers lacked the basic cleverness to call it "Now You Don't." Those movies are so dumb, I love them.

Ugino

Not sure what this means but I had a dream the other night that I was watching a film adaptation of a very bleak novel about Incel Vanellope by the playwright Arthur Miller. I know we might not be able to say anything that would stop you feeling compelled to finish stuff, but I hope if you decide you need to deprioritize Starcruiser you'll feel able to do so. I can easily imagine getting into this kind of resentful stage in a workflow even for a project I like, and maybe this is just an inevitable phase of finishing big projects for you regardless of outside forces, but if you have any opportunity to suffer less and pursue stuff that actually inspires you more I hope you'll take it. I can only speak for myself but I'm pretty sure most of us always enjoy your creative voice no matter what you're talking about, we understand that quality takes time and artistic productivity doesn't come on demand, and in general the best stuff is always the stuff a creator made because they felt like making it. Even from a purely selfish perspective as a viewer, as excited as I am for Starcruiser I'd sooner have it postponed indefinitely or scrapped than for you to exist in a prolonged state of stress or burnout. Not that I would presume we as fans have the power to prevent all that just by saying nice things, but, you know, [Nice Things]. And I admire and appreciate the effort you put into anonymizing people. I hope there are some good editing macros that take the tedium out of the blurring process. Or some good editing collaborators, if you're sharing the burden with anyone these days.

Natalie

I do have Twitter and also don't mind!

Ugino

The patron videos are intentionally "for kids" so that they can't be added to publicly discoverable playlists, which used to happen, apparently YouTube just didn't have a better way to deal with this - dunno about you but I'm able to download "for kids" videos anyway

Hexagonal

Psyched for the FNAF video! My friends and I saw the recent theatrical release and oof, so much to unpack. As a viewer with only a basic understanding of the lore, there were so many questionable plot decisions that I felt undermined the entire motivations of some of the characters. Anyway, I can't wait to hear what you have to say about it, and happy holidays!

Rachel Epperson

Christ alive so many bad scenes. I feel like this is a treasure trove that needs to be further explored in other genres from you. Can't wait for any other content but don't feel bad for slower output. We all treasure anything released! Happy holidays and happy new year!

Ted Koutz

So I had the good fortune to catch a Wuxia version of Cyrano (sorta): this was on a TV drama, set in Hell, called King of Hades. This was a subbed Chinese-language show whose premise is there's people in Hell for whatever reason and a bunch of devils and demons hanging out, and there's drama and impressive fights. I haven't watched a lot of stuff in this genre but this showed up on cable and the title intrigued me, and the costumes and premise totally sold me on this. In it, a normal-looking guy wants to enter a poetry contest Hell is apparently holding. After writing his poem on a scroll, he falls asleep under a tree. A ghost comes and breathes fire on his face, for reasons unclear to me, causing his face to become reddened and burned. He tries to submit his poem but a demon is like "woah, we can't let you read poetry looking like that" so he has to find a handsome, well-dressed man who's also in Hell to read it for him. I don't remember if wooing a lady *exactly* like in Cyrano is part of the deal or he just wants people to hear and like his poems. I really hope he just wanted to win Hell's poetry slam. Also there's a subplot where a guy steal's the King of Hades' hat and impersonates him, and this works, and all the demons and such are slow to catch on. Somebody put the opening credits on Youtube but I think this is pretty obscure, and in Chinese, so idk where someone would watch it if they wanted

Jenny Nicholson

I know the latter half of the line is really bad but also "guess what else" is an extremely funny filler phrase to start a line with

BROGGGGGY

I wonder if Jenny has looked into getting some help in editing her videos before in a cursory way like taking care of the face blurring and then she can have more time to focus on what she wants to. I can understand how she feels about negative comments on innocent unsuspecting people in the videos so it makes me happy she is thinking of them and trying to avoid it, but i love seeing the other people for their costumes and if i saw myself in the background of one of her videos it would be awesome.

Jenny Nicholson

Yeah I think a big flaw is there's an odd kind of "distance" from the magician characters because we never see them plan or prepare, there isn't much sense of vulnerability to them. Like in one scene they're confused about what's going on and in the next they reveal they've had a huge plan all along and didn't tell us

BestStressed

Could you maybe just pay some film student or something to do all the blurring on your video for the Star Cruiser stuff? I feel like if it's making you this miserable it might be worth it even if it's a bit expensive. It honestly impresses me that you do all this stuff yourself; I feel like most people at your level have at least an editor or something. And for the most part I think it's awesome and makes your videos really "you"... but maybe some paid grunt work would be useful on this one thing?

BestStressed

Heh, I literally posted the same thing right under you, I think because I had to reload the page before your comment showed up. :D

BROGGGGGY

lol it can be hard to share editing responsibilities but i think with how large her projects get it can be helpful even in small amounts, i hope its something she considers so that it becomes less stressful for her

Jenny Nicholson

I guess the tl;dr is that you'd be surprised how frustrating and time consuming it is to delegate editing to a freelancer you've never worked with before, and give really granular instructions and then corrections, even when it feels like busywork. And then I picture doing that over and over with like a hundred under-10-second clips and it sounds equally as tedious as just doing it myself

Krim

... i wonder if he was making eye contact when he got hit.

fiskehund

"Otherwise boring to discuss" is my favorite genre

Celine Reese

I do this as a wedding videographer! I'm a perfectionist at making it look good storytelling wise…. But I get caught up in culling through the footage and it takes me like sixty hours till I feel like I can actually start telling the story. I hired someone to find all the good footage for me….. And they only needed like five hours. Then I was able to edit and make it powerful in only ten hours instead of sixty haha.

Celine Reese

Your sacrifice to buy the movie was WORTH IT I needed the context for the rap and laughed SO HARD because I did not expect the lyrics and beat to be THAT BAD all while sword fighting 😂😂

Celine Reese

Jenny- idk if you edit in premiere pro, but the new update for 2023/2024 has it so you can edit NOT by going in and listening for every word and then cutting…. But instead it creates a transcript of what you say, and you can actually cut your video JUST BY BACKSPACING THE WORDS. It saves dozens of hours in editing. I know what it's like to want to die in editing hell but…. This new feature is a game changer! If you need a link lmk I can send you the video I learned on it with.

Kav

The bus crash thing reminds me of a lockdown tradition of Virtual Movie Night I had with some friends. Stardust is probably my favourite movie and I stuck it on when only one of the others was available. She'd never seen it but I knew it'd be their thing and, I swear, it felt like she was directing the movie via time portal, the number of times she said, "do [such-and-such]!" and the character immediately did [such-and-such]. ...and it's not like Stardust is a super-predictable movie. Elements of it certainly are but her accuracy was entirely independent of fantasy/fairytale tropiness. Thankfully, feeling like she had massive creative control over the movie despite it... already have been released on streaming services following a theatrical run enhanced the experience rather than diminishing it.

Venture

I watched Cyrano several months ago and I didn't even remember it being a musical.

Julian

Never connected till now that Sierra Burgess is based on Cyrano lol. Great catch

Dash

me too fellow patron my fist is out for you to pound it

Rachel Liu

I was fully expecting a dad joke there, where the long of it was that he died in a “caaaaaarrr accident”

Kav

Even as a massive fan of the series, the latest 'Stormlight Archives' book (which I thought was otherwise excellent) did the ghost thing but so, so, SO much worse. I kind of couldn't believe it. I really can't explain well without getting into massive spoiler territory (and a lot of people have a lot of Cosmere stuff to catch up on) but to put it's so egregious there because the core of that series is that the almost all the greatest heroes who arise as it goes on are either suffering neurodivergent or suffering from serious mental illness. It never, up to this point, pulls its punches on how difficult that is and then, when one of them is at their lowest ebb, boom! The literal ghost of someone who is the greatest emblem of the worst manifestation of one of the main characters' mental health issues is summoned from the Spiritual Plane to tell them it's actually all good. It's so, so much worse than the vague version makes it sound but, yeah, I was honestly staggered.

Ella M

This has nothing to do with the video but I was shopping gifts for my niece and saw an actual snake rack in the wild which delighted me immensely.

Emily Bowman

There were a few moments where I just had to facepalm. Love it, never stop making us cringe! Oh, FWIW, one of the primary selling points of After Effects is that you can click on a face and it'll follow it with a blur (or any other effect), back and forth from that spot.

big bird

the run-up to the cyrano rap filled me with a sense of anticipatory fear i usually only get from survival horror games. will start using this to induce a cold sweat in lieu of paying for aircon

Andy Ross

Great video Jenny , thankyou for all the effort you make doing these projects .

Hardy Roach Games

Good vid! I slightly disagree on Cyrano. Not that the film isn't bad, it is, but I think Dinklage just being how he is makes perfect sense. All disabled people have experienced the absurdity of being looked past or judged due to their disability, despite otherwise being handsome, articulate, talented etc. I'm sure Dinklage in particular has experienced judgement from strangers for being with a non-little person.

Hardy Roach Games

But uh yeah the actual film they made is real bad

Clara Margot

all I can say about the Cyrano rap is that one day Lin Manuel Miranda will pay for his crimes

Diana.H.

As a French person, I take offense at the fact that Jenny thought Cyrano would be on French Netflix. I do not know a single person who saw that movie. We might eat frogs but we do have taste! ;)

Austin P. Smith

I was so confused as to why people thought I should like Now You See Me. Knowing anything about me, as a human, should be enough to tell you that I am not going to think highly of Now You See Me.

Martin G

During the romcom segment I kept hearing the movie had Beyonce in it but she wasn't in any of the clips, while Celine Dion was throughout, and it wasn't until the phrase "dead Beyonce" that I realized Jenny was saying "fiance"

ana

The rap was causing me to cringe so badly.

Markus D

I can't believe that the death in the first movie isn't even on screen and I don't know if its funnier that it's just a sound effect or not. Because people getting hit by cars in low-budget stuff tends to be the funniest effect.

Markus D

I'd be kind of interested in a ramble where you watch E.T. for the first time. However, I am also someone who is of the opinion that that movie is really boring so... I'd still like to know your eventual thoughts on it.

Charlotte

The (lack of?) rhythm and pulse in the Cyrano rap took my breath away

Bryan Sutton

"Ceeeelebrate good times, Come on!" Cyrano Producers: I will.

Markus D

I didn't see Wreck-It Ralph 2, but that's because I actually really disliked the first one. I'm still shocked by the lack of negative opinions I hear regarding that movie because I thought it was just a mediocre kid's movie with a really annoying sidekick and very few jokes that actually landed. I don't really get what other people see in it.

Audrey lopata

I was shocked to see Cyrano on here because: A. I thought I was the only person in the world who had seen it. B. I LOVE it. Sure, it’s bizarre and incredibly earnest and maybe musically questionable. But if you find yourself disagreeing with some of Jenny’s opinions on other musicals (she also doesn’t care for Greatest Showman or SIX, which I enjoyed quite a lot) maybe give this one a listen on Spotify? Or if you want to take in the gorgeous costumes, watch the movie! There’s a lot to love about it 💕

Ash Gabrielle

I also really disliked the first one. "There are dozens of us" and all that.

Markus D

I'm always disappointed that Now You See Me 2 wasn't called "Now You Don't".

Markus D

I know, but it's always nice to SEE it instead of just feeling like I'm in a chamber of people just gushing over it for unexplained reasons.

Oberon

That two minutes of Cyrano Rap was more unsettling to me than the whole video about Peter Parker being a pervy peeper.

D

As someone outside the US I had no idea what you were talking about with the story of Cyrano (the spelling in my head was totally off too lmao) so it was really funny when you initially didn't elaborate much on the structure of the story. The fun kind of alienation

Cowboy Jaz Luo

have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon? 🌽 🐺

Alexis Goss

Thank you for blurring faces <3

Cristina Anderson

a very good ramble! godspeed jenny, you're doing great!

S G Matthews

My big takeaway from this one is “Jenny goes to the movies a lot” 😂. I’ve only seen a movie in the theater three times in the last six years… and it was Godzilla Minus One all three times haha

t0tally 3rica

Likewise is a really good app for tracking the movies, tv shows, books and podcasts that you listen to. You can put them. In playlists, track what you’ve seen, etc. it gives me that feeling I had when I was a kid and all of my media was analog.

skellbörg

take as long as you need!!! we understand how long it takes to make amazing videos.

Heather VP

Thanks for taking time to respond, that totally makes sense!

Luis

I still can't believe Jenny bought Cyrano just to show us that clip is there any doubt she's the greatest content creator ever 😭 Now I need to re-watch Now You See Me I forgot how crazy that movie is lol.

Austin F

i didn't know cyrano either, and in my head it was spelled "cirno" like the touhou character. lmao

Elizabeth Havens

an added funny bit about the mirror trick in Now You See Me is that since (spoilers) Mark Ruffalo is the secret mastermind behind all the tricks then he probably made all the cops stop right before they would appear in the mirror and managed to convince them that was close enough

triplel

Possible future ramble topic: find a video of Coffee World from Alan Wake 2 and do a voice over to it like you were visiting a real theme park

Anna Glin

first time for me using the patreon video player and man, it doesn't work well :') hope you can get the youtube one approved!

polywogy

Now I’m wondering if there’s a way to turn hiding peoples faces into a joke. Like make one of them a Bart Simpson face, one a Care Bear, someone Elrond. That *might* do something to depersonalize the nastiness? Like a comment that says, “look at Inspector Gadget dancing up a storm back there” might feel less crappy than “look at that woman, she’s terrible”? Also, Inspector Gadget would be a bad dancer, but we still love him, right?

Jenny Nicholson

Huh yeah maybe he was the one between shots going "oh no the money's gone, we might as well all go home" and he just said it so confidently they all went with him

Jax Dolman

so excited to hear that you are working on a fnaf video!!

Skylin.

Ur wreck it ralph tangent teminded me theres STILL those stupid little avatar figures that at my local ollies. The guys with the square heads in the movie? I guess they thoughts kids would want to make their own? I love getting excited for products and then getting excited for more-

Mr. Creosote

Morgan Freeman would be perfect to play Brian in the Paranormal Home Inspector movie.

Nyx

Never connected the dots between Cyrano and Sierra Burgess omg 😭

Nyx

Oh my God that Cyrano clip... There really is a whole wave of lyricists who watched Hamilton and thought "yeah, I could do that"

Matthew S. Dentice

Those were my thoughts exactly when I heard Jenny's description.

Madeleine

Cruella monologue has Conflict at the Ruins vibes

Madeleine

I’m really hoping HBomb’s plagiarism video will quiet some of the haters who feel compelled to shame video-makers for taking a long time. Good work takes a long time!

fperrytheplatypus

As someone with an Outlander shrine in my bedroom it's sooo hard to hear shit abt Sam Heguhan (I deadass have a build-a-bear with his voice recording in it) but.... you're so right that movie was awful I couldn't finish it

Fiona V

I agree! I didn't like the scene Jenny talked about or the movie overall but that part was fun.

Matthew S. Dentice

"It's like a self-insert incel fic." As someone who just finished putting together a reading list for my Ph.D., I can confirm that many old and classic romance stories read like self-insert incel fics nowadays. I couldn't agree more with Jenny's remarks about the misuse of the word "cute" to describe movies and also her critique of the whole "all tropes are bad" mindset. I remember when that notion was at its height around 2010 or so. It was so disheartening as a beginning writer to have "tropes are always bad" constantly thrown at you like it was sage advice.

Ham

She's very appealing in Joe Dante's THE HOLE.

AnnaBanana

It gives me such second hand anxiety when people make comments about YouTube creators taking too long to come out with a video. Many documentary films take from a few months to a couple of years to be finalized, and that’s with a whole team working on them. Why should it be any different with other creators? In the end, once any discourse around a video’s release subsides, I think the quality of the library of videos a lot of these folks have made speaks for itself. I don’t envy the kind of pressure that comes with this job, but I really appreciate people like Jenny putting in the work to make this kind of content.

Melanie

Have you thought about maybe going on fiverr or smthn to hire a temp editor to help blurring out faces???

David A Behlman

Not a bad comparison, but surely Sherlock is worse since Mr. Observant would've noticed something like that.

Jordan

Works in Canada

Aria

One of the craziest things about news.disney.com is that (as of today) it hasn't been updated since May 2023, so that might even be on the chopping block.

maxie24

I’m a new patron and I love r rushing about this video. All the commentary is A++++

J B

The mirror scene was so stupid. I realized my friends were all brain dead, as it's coming down...haha you just think, who is this movie for?! Worse than the minitrex in Jworld climbing that ladder.

J B

And jenny anytime I see you stress over your patrons I always think noo jenny don't, but then I feel good that this is the only content I pay for haha what a world.

Lea Pfau

ngl, being a huge fan of The National, the band that wrote the music for Cyrano, I felt almost embarrassed by that fact when I heard the rap. I guess it goes to show that writing for musicals is indeed a very different and specialised skill

Miss World

The wildest part of Cruella to me was the cover of I Wanna Be Your Dog bc it’s a good song but wildly out of place and is not a song about dogs

Elise

Oh I remember a funny video from a youtuber (Leo Vader maybe?) about reviewing the magic in Now You See Me and all the insane tricks the mentalist pulls off. I love watching these films with friends and I think my only issue is that half of the cast comes off as smug and off-putting? They lack the charisma and sillyness that characters have in the Ocean franchise. On another note I'm sorry people can be so demanding with your videos and uploading one always results in a bunch of mean spirited comments. Your main videos are incredibly well produced and they have a tight script and great editing and I can't even comprehend how much time it must take. I also feel your patreon videos must take quite a bit of time too and it's v generous on your part to make them so long. Oftentimes I have no prior knowledge of the topics you tackle (except the nut song of Weesing Sillyville) and you make everything interesting. So many documentaries and video essays nowadays seem churned out by a machine so I'm thankful for unique voices like yours or Redlettermedia's.

Kavi Montanaro

I liked it but it might be because I was front and center at the Arclight in Culver City, no one else was there, and the subwoofers were making my shirt flap around

Tzivia Kleinbart

Is this how I find out the movie Cyrano was a musical?????

SniperBruceDog

I saw an adaptation of Cyrano De Bergerac with James McAvoy as Cyrano and I did struggle to suspend my disbelief that everyone found him so ugly lol I enjoyed the play but I did come out thinking it needed a rap battle tbh

Jenny Nicholson

Yeah if he'd performed this rap you would've fully believed he was undateable

Billy Campelo

I preferred this scene as well but only because the music during it features different score motifs from all of the different princess movies

lia

im crying now you see me sounds like a gag movie from 30 rock

i need to watch it immediately

theory for the “love again” that they wrote cher into the script for the whole “life after love” theme and settled on celine dion because shes so close in branding

Dash

The wings represent the bus which launched her fiance into the air

libbydd

now you see me and lucy are both films my conspiracy theorist uncle thinks are life changing and i kind of love them for that reason

Des

Omg. The Cyrano rap is like the 1600's equivalent of the Papa Doc rap battle from Eminem's 8 Mile 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Des

Yes! I'm so glad I'm not the only person that saw the similarities! Now I'm imagining Eminem in a frock coat and I can't stop laughing 🤣

Fletcher Gross

I read Peter Dinklage's role in Cyrano as not calling little people ugly, but a critique of an abilist society that often perceives those in different bodies as ugly. At this point in his career, it seems like he wouldn't accept the role if he believed it was mocking him.

Ann Parker

The audacity of them to not name the sequel “Now You Don’t”

Who Are These People

One of her videos was nominated for a Hugo award; that's a long-running and very prestigious world-class award. Even just one work every few years at that level of quality would be outstanding artistic output.

basil

im so excited you brought up the lyrics in cyrano, the audience when we went audibly burst out laughing once per song

Semilocon

The Cyrano rap happening to swordfighting made me think of the Monkey's Island games fighting system, where you have to pick the correct insult to swordfight.

Cowboy Jaz Luo

I do believe Jenny talked about how she didn't like the first Wreck It Ralph so I hope that could be very validating for you! I believe it was in her "worst reasons to hate Disney" ramble

lia

it was RIGHT there smh my head

Victoria Brucas

SIERRA BURGESS IS A LOSER IS A MODERN ADAPTATION OF CYRANO DE BERGERAC?? That movie was so bad and creepy that I've literally never heard someone mention that before

Elisabeth

this is how I find out that the fucking NATIONAL wrote Cyrano???? this is such a twist

Jenny Nicholson

I forgot to highlight the song in the balcony scene, which like as music/performance I thought was the best song, but had extremely bad lyrics. There's the one part where Cyrano-as-Christian is like "I saw you one time last spring with your hair down and you looked so beautiful" and Roxanne is like "How could you possibly know that, I hadn't met you yet" but like singing these things as song lyrics

a.s.

the guy rapping against cyrano sounds creepily close to the evermore character who kept repeating 'i dont know if youre aware but you are now becoming A BEAR' during jenny's convergence visit

Molly McCormick

I appreciate this ramble for confirming Now You See Me is a real movie and not a false memory planted in my brain by a magician. For what it's worth--and I understand this doesn't erase the pressure from your youtube comments section--I'm hype for any length of video you want to make. I love your older much shorter videos and I love your long ones too. Just excited to see what you upload next when you are ready to release it into the wild.

FlorenceOfFlowers

Hi Jenny :) I love this ramble, just throwing in my 2 cents that I really look forward to even the shortest of FNAF videos. I know it hasnt been mentioned for awhile but I have been thinking about your future Barbie video and I still look forward to it. Also I know this is related to the last ramble again but i really really would love to see that beanie baby video one day

Elyse

When I first tried watching the Cyrano movie, I 100% clicked off as soon as the rhyming swordplay began. I was like, "There's absolutely no way I'm gonna listen to a full movie of this." What a way to introduce your protagonist

Elyse

I am shocked!!! I watched a bunch of takedowns of the movie but no one ever mentioned this...!

Tomorrow Sucked

Awkwardly trying to explain the entirety of Cyrano de Bergerac when "it's basically about in person catfishing" would get the message across

Ola Sarcasm

eat your heart out 8 Mile

Beanman

Such a great video.

Pontus Knast

Hi! Idiot here, what video is she saying she's been working on at the end? I don't know the word

Karoliina Ollikainen

It’s an acronym: FNAF, aka Five Nights at Freddy’s (the horror video game franchise)

Karoliina Ollikainen

I too am doing something at work right now that’s slow, excruciating and will go largely unnoticed but is ultimately the right thing to do (“right now” as in I am watching this while working) so feeling a lot of camaraderie towards you. Also, as a parent I appreciate the effort you put in to not centre random children in your videos. It would definitely make me uncomfortable if my kid was conspicuously displayed in a vlog seen by such a large audience.

Rose Tyler

I didn't get it either, thank you for asking about it!

Andre Evans

My Favorite thing about Love Again is when an adult man asks Celine Dion if she actually believes in love?!?!

Natalie Arnold

This. Twitter gets less usable by the second even for people still on it. By all means repeat yourself if you want!

Nick Castle

i feel so bad it seems like literally every month jenny says she has no idea what to do for the topic we gave her 😭

Markus D

I never had an intention of watching it, but if I had, that would've been a big turn-off. It's like when I was in the theatre watching the Les Misérables musical movie from 2012 and hearing Russell Crowe and going "Oh no..." followed by Hugh Jackman's terrible rendition of "What Have I Done" just making my blood run cold that THAT was the Jean Valjean performance we were going to have to deal with. I liked some parts of the movie, but it really sucks when like... the main character is one of the worst.

Markus D

I KNEW IT WAS REMINDING ME OF SOMETHING!

Elyse

100%. Especially when it's a one-person operation or a even a small 2-3 person team. Like, let people do what they do best. This treatment of creators like they're content farms is embarrassingly tone-deaf for the people saying those things.

Madeleine

THE Aaron Dessner who co-wrote and produced a bunch of folklore, evermore, and midnights wrote THAT???!!!

Munchy Lunchco

I had to look away from the screen while it was playing and pause multiple times to gather my strength in order to keep going.

Tomasz Ogrodowski

I usually do that too, but I was in a shock induced stasis

Viccc

I'm sorry it's making the Starcrusier video such a slog but I really appreciate your awareness of blurring strangers so that they don't become a punchline. The degree to which the internet is comfortable mocking random people is pretty disheartening sometimes.

Crispy Año

Jenny just casually whipping out a perfect Vanellope impression

Dephress

I adored Cyrano! Sigh.

Bainhardt

I never saw Wreck-It Ralph 2 but from your description it sounds like it was basically the awful template for what Warner did with Space Jam 2

MATT TRIANO

On YOUTUBE it's now designated as Content for Kids

Maerose Pepe

My bf and I immediately put on Now You See Me after watching this and it did not disappoint. I loved how Social Network-core it was, especially the outfits. A movie set in a universe where everyone agrees that magic is cool.

B Hair

☹️ I feel bad that you seem to feel so much pressure to make some of these videos for your main channel. You would think your subscribers would be more understanding

Jake

Actually, if you look closely you can see that during every pause in her rambling monologue, Cruella is re-processing the fact that her mother was shoved off a cliff by a pack of Dalmatians. An acting masterclass by Emma Stone.

Ella M

No shade but the nut song from We Sing for Sillyville is really a wild thing to have prior knowledge of

Angel Quintana

Yeah its been that for a while. Jenny does that so peoplw cant make the patreon videos a playlist and share them around

Tyler Singer

I did not expect Peter Dinklage to have to renact the rap battle scene from 8 Mile, honestly.

Rick Clark

Also a weird choice that she doesn’t wince, or look away. Like maybe the bus hit him in slow motion and he just floated into the sky

Markus D

Lol, yeah. She just takes it like "Oh, it's his time to go."

Hedrigal

Peter dinklage needs a better agent.

Eric Cheung

Wait. You haven't seen E.T.? Could a reaction video be on a future poll?

Scott DePouw

Even the "explore the Internet" parts of Wreck It Ralph 2 were disappointing. It was all just big corporate boring sites. Should've set that film in the 1990s/2000s era Internet. Or at least go where people actually went when they weren't wanting to spend money.

Elise

It's just such a good puppet

Susannah B.

Joe Wright also started dating Rosamund Pike on the set of Pride and Prejudice, Rosamund of course playing Jane, the prettiest one. What's up with this guy

Gay Rat

now you see me is genuinely one of my favourite films and man it is so hilairiously stupid <3

Mac Monkeyhat

All of the Disney princesses being treated as a single unit to poke fun at the traditional Disney princess tropes were was so strange. Like Frozen and Moana were literally made with subverting those tropes in mind but wreck it ralph 2 treats them like they weren't?

Ann Parker

I liked Cyrano too! The lyrics are definitely more than questionable but overall it was a pretty sweet/enjoyable experience

Ann Parker

(Me struggling not to conclude that sentence with “it was cute”! )

Tardsmat

My condolences for you having to manually do all that work to make people in your footage anonymous. Maybe your video editor has some kind of motion tracking feature that could help with that?

Megan Smart

I wonder if Jenny has heard of Wasteland Weekend. I just watched a video about it from People Make Games. It's an elaborately themed apocalypse/Fallout flavored rennaissance fair in the mojave desert. They use bottle caps for money and there's a lot of bartering with random stuff. They even had a cute little themed newspaper handout (that people can submit articles for over the weekend?). Seems like everything Evermore wants to be in execution but isn't. It's more of a Mad Max theme and maybe not her style. I just found out about it and it looked fun. Also very much looking forward to the FNAF video!

Cecile

this has absolutely nothing to do with the video but have you seen the 40th anniversary my little ponies?

.

I’m so sad that Jenny seemingly abandoned the barbie video lol. After so much build up and hype too :/

lyrium

Jenny, why not pay someone to blur the footage? at some point your time and mental health is just simply more valuable than money

lyrium

this was an awesome video btw, like a little pill of the kind of content you used to do. really enjoyed it! and I'm looking forward to FNAF, turns out it's my niece's special interest so I'm happy to learn more about it.

Lydia Sims

starting a relationship by dupe doesn't work, thats why you got to double dupe them. tell them you like them to their face on accident, they believe its a joke, get them to marry you

Melanie Magnon

Peter Dinklage has got that Crispin Glover flow... I was getting flashbacks to his clown song during the rap battle.

Eric Houge

Yeah, I know very little about editing (at least on a computer, when I went to film school we were still cutting film with a razor blade :/) but I have to imagine there's some kind of AI tool that could make the job easier?

Eric Houge

Alan Moore criticized his own script for The Killing Joke by saying that he wasn't talking about anything that was applicable to real life, he was only talking about these fictional characters. I'm not sure I agree with that as a criticism of The Killing Joke, but it certainly seems applicable to Now You See Me. That movie is so thoroughly about ITSELF and itself exclusively that I kind of admire such a single-minded commitment to escapism.

Waitelaine

I’d like to come to the defense of Cyrano, he’s the only one that seems to think Roxanne will never love him, and he keeps getting in his own way about it. And at the very end, Roxanne even admits that she loved him for him but didn’t know he loved her.

Waitelaine

Roxanne is not a very bright lady, she’s beautiful and clever, but she’s not great at identifying writing styles

Kelly Stiver

LOL I understand this comment because I have an nine-year-old girl

9A

Even if it isn't necessary from a legal standpoint I think it's good taste to try to maintain people's privacy in your footage. Seems like it'd be a nightmare to find out you got caught in some vloggers b roll footage and your whole spot gets blown up. That extra work does sound really draining though...

Leavesforfall

Hey Jenny!! Love your videos! I always watch them with my mom and she is super excited for star cruiser and I’m super excited for Barbie! Can’t wait to see what comes next and take your time :)

Mairéad

Spoilers for Now You See Me : Now you see me makes a lot more sense if you keep in mind Morgan Freeman's explanations are not necessarily true, and that the magicians are being actively helped by the cops the entire time. They're also not trying to get the money, they're trying to humiliate and frame Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine, which requires more trickery There's a lot of silly things about the film, but quite literally the whole plot is that there's two layers of trick, one is tricking average people in universe, the second is tricking Morgan Freeman. All his explanations are either wrong or incomplete because he's missed the essential detail that Mark Ruffalo is helping the trick work, for example giving them access to the vault to do the mirror trick and then convincing everyone to run off after them instead of looking at the room closely. So the trick explanations not adding up is intentional...

zet

This was fun. I'm actually happy if you repeat stuff from twitter — I've long since stopped using that site. Too much misery. But I understand keeping those bits brief. I'm looking forward to the FNAF thing. Really I'm just happy to get any scripted video from you. I always have a great time listening to your thoughts.

Tea

But if you watch the film bearing that in mind the film becomes 10x more boring and makes even less sense as many of the scenes are them escaping from someone who isn't even trying to catch them.

Mairéad

I can see how you'd see it that way, it's a valid interpretation, but I mostly saw it as a love letter to performance art and showmanship and enjoyed the kind of double bluff nature of it even after knowing the twist

Guildhall Games

Here's hoping Jenny gets an egregious cameo in the FNAF sequel thanks to her video.

AHHHscreamapillar

Omg I watched the rap through my fingers. Just pure cringe.

Jeff McManus

Ever since Jenny casually mentioned Warrior Cats in a video once I've secretly hoped she would make some Warrior Cats content someday.

Monssef Burezah

Three hours of Freddy?? Move over, VPD! I have a new comfort video

Eric

Now You See Me 2 is very memorable for two reasons! They have Daniel Radcliffe playing the anti-magic character! And the scene where the pass the playing cards while being searched from the person who was just searched to the next person to be searched. Also they named it Now You See Me 2 instead of Now You Don't

seasidh q mcginnis

re: sonic father audience reactions: when i saw nightmare alley in theaters, the main character is continually shown having a fraught relationship with an older man in flash backs until this old man dies of neglect and bradley cooper's character burns the house down with him in it and leaves it all behind. it is heavily implied via dialogue with other characters that he has troubles with his father or father figure, and also like, who else would that really be? the movie is really taking pains to set this up. anyway near the end of the movie it is confirmed, yes, that was his father. and someone in the audience, astonished, gasped "SO THAT WAS HIS FATHER??" apparently not picking up on a crumb of the barely sub subtext. now in every movie featuring a father character, we loudly whisper 'OHHHH so that was their father?" as the credits roll. works best for movies where there was never any doubt.

Cowboy Jaz Luo

I thought in her Video Graveyard video she said it's just on the backburner since it'll take so long to finish and the Starcruiser video is taking current precedence?

maxie24

Such a great video!! I also hated Now You See Me.

Tabea Zeltner

pls dont be shy to talk about stuff u talked about on twitter, I for one left that platform and its nice to hear about your thoughts on here :)

Person

If you are a fan of the sillyness of Now You See Me you should really considering watching abc's Deception. It's basically the wackiness of magician crime solving with twins and murder. It's pretty amazing

Kelly Evans

Jenny it's okay to have the princesses wear regular clothes. None of their outfits are comfortable...and they'd never done that. It humanized them for children. Calm down

Franki Lew and Kitschy Cats

Haven't finished the vid yet but, I must say, an accurate and funnier joke would be Vanellope winds up on a flash games website and meets the princesses but it's those disturbing bootleg mobile-games where Elsa's pregnant with Spiderman or Rapunzel's getting throat surgery. Vanellope sees what the viewer can't and she's immediately screaming for Ralph to get her out. It was 2018 so flash would have still existed then.

Jin

That car wreck call out in the beginning and then it actually happening had me rolling. Lol.

Who Are These People

I started watching Now You See Me out of morbid curiosity, and Jen is so right. It actually takes the magic out of magic. The fun of stage magic is trying to figure out how they did it, knowing it boils down to something simple. This was just random nonsense. *SPOILER BELOW* OK update: I'm halfway through the movie and there is one clever bit here: After the first "trick", while being interrogated by the FBI, Eisenberg tells Ruffalo "We'll be one step, 3 steps, 7 steps ahead of you and just when you think you've caught up we'll be right behind you." Now at about 1:11:00 Ruffalo's character discovers Eisenberg switched his phone with a bugged duplicate and reviews the video footage of the interrogation to spot the switch. When they spot it, they pause the video and Agent FBI-guy decides they can use this to their advantage. He says 'put the bug back in that phone, we're finally one step ahead'- while the video of the interrogation has been paused right when Eisenberg's character is looking up and back at the interrogation room camera. Ruffalo has turned away from the monitor to talk to his FBI team, so Eisenberg looking "at him" and is RIGHT BEHIND HIM. https://imgur.com/a/9gwE2Hc

I’m so glad you mentioned Sillyville, it’s a memory I’ve been trying to track down for ages! I never knew the name and thought i half hallucinated it 😂

Majima Cookie

I assure you Jenny, just because I follow you on here doesnt mean I even have a twitter. Im sure Im not alone there.

Trystan

I used to until some billionaire bought it.

JoeySnowyNoey

The first time I saw that version of Cyrano I popped an edible before going to the theater and I had a blast with the movie. I agree it’s not good, but I actually enjoy a lot of the music and I had fun with the weirdness of it.

Garga Lenoir

Actual Cyrano is not incely at all. Roxanne is not blamed by the text for not falling for Cyrano. He doesn't attempt anything with her because of his crushing body dysmorphia. Roxane's only fault is being a Precieuse, obsessed with poems and bons mots. Christian is clever, kind of handsome but he doesn't have a head for that and it makes him embarrassed. Hence why he turns to Cyrano. And since Roxane asked Cyrano to help Christian out since he's new in town, Cyrano helps him with the poems. So no it's not the girls' fault for ignoring the clever guy and lusting after an asshole Chad. It's just a whole bunch of miscommunications and neuroses just like in real life.

melmelmelmel

Omg I had never heard of that musical Cyrano or at least the version w Peter Dinklage….. those lyrics 💀 thanks Jenny for another video!

melmelmelmel

Also woo I loved the episode of for your amusement that u were on!!! Such a cool worlds collide moment

Ty P

Oh Jenny, bless your heart. Great stuff. I'm giggling through the whole thing.

Alice Parkin

It's really kind of you to try and blur people out of the public footage, even though it sounds like an enormous pain. People make such horrible comments about total strangers just vibing and it's really good of you to try to protect them from that. Thanks for the ramble, that Cyrano rap is going to haunt me for years 💀

Wakelyn

cyrano debergerap has anyone said that yet

Theme Park Review

Yay! Knott's Merry Farm marketplace is the best!

paperini

There's a super funny video by Leo Vader about Now You See Me, where he ponders how likely it is that each member is actually a wizard. The weirdo hypnotist is suspect number 1. He makes 0 jokes about Daniel Radcliffe being in the series and I imagine that took an enormous amount of self control.

Wakelyn

omg thank you for the now you see me recommendation i’m sick and bedridden and i think that movie cured me

Who Are These People

Cyrano's flow is hot like a burger rap- open your mouth and you fall into my trap My nose is big but my brain is bigger- I shoot wit like a gat and I got a light trigger

Wakelyn

they shouldve hired you to write the movie

Adventuress

To be fair, the reason for the Cyrano rap is they're trying to emulate the play, where Cyrano purposefully duels De Valvert to the death while performing an...old-timey poetic style that requires rhyming couplets. I'm not a huge fan of the play, but I watched enough stage combat exams using this particular scene. So rapping makes sense as the modern equivalent. It's not good, but it's clear why they chose it. Edit: I just went back and reread the scene and his whole rhyme is about how inept his opponent is/ how amazing he (Cyrano) is. So this makes the "I'm a monster" rap all the more strange.

Ky

You're absolute RIGHT (Halloween's my favorite holiday)

The BabaDuck

Did Cyrano invent insult sword fighting?

Adventuress

You know I bet it goes back further. Mercutio was an insult fighter for example. If there's one thing I've learned from stage combat, it's that most sword fighters are also insult artists.

Conor

Wreck it Ralph 2 sucked!!!

Aimee W

i think after i watched wreck it ralph 2 by brain just threw it out. i know i’ve seen it but .. nothing. it’s a blank

Aimee W

i think my only wreck it ralph hot take would be the little video game girl has a cute design but i hate her voice

Aimee W

no idea what oh my disney . com is either

Aimee W

never heard of this play/movie but i was fully expecting the main ugly guy to kill the new hot guy not help him :/ maybe just game of thrones infecting me

Aimee W

i guess they used that story in a mediocre bob’s burgers episode. my curse is to know of things through bob’s burgers.

Aimee W

now you see me should collab with fast and furious

Isaac Banta

sonic normally is just kind of "cool-dude" coded, ambiguously aged, but I disagree about movie sonic being that way, he's definitely got more awkward preteen boy energy here, it's a different take

Danielle Sherman

We sing for Sillyville! That just blew my brain wide open, those songs are deep deep in the recesses of my mind.

Danielle Sherman

Same. I described it to my husband and he thought I was insane.

Russell Teasdale

She goes a little deeper into it in the 'Obscure movies, etc you experienced as a child but no one knows what you're talking about' video, it's a banger

Danielle Sherman

Thank you! She said she had mentioned it in an earlier video but I didn’t know which one it was and had no way of figuring it out, so I’m very pleased to have an answer.

Markus D

Okay, that explains why they might make it a rap, but that's not an explanation for why it's SHIT and has an incredibly inconsistent metre.

Markus D

Basically the only reason I'm still on Twitter is because Jenny still posts there.

Markus D

As someone who has never watched Now You See Me and has no intention of doing so, that is my ONE take on the series: The sequel should've been called "Now You Don't".

Karena Bakas

Jenny, this was lovely, as always. Always so nice to see and hear you! I thought of you today. I’m currently reading Naomi Klein’s “Doppelgänger” and recommend it— especially the section that addresses the tension of identity and personal branding online.

Adventuress

What's that? You think there's inconsistencies? A meter that is full of try-hard mediocrities? You're absolutely RIGHT and I don't know how to best convey How much this buffoonery was better left upon the...quay... That was painful to write and I need more caffeine....

Rachel

Would it be possible for you to hire an outside person to blur the faces for the Starcruiser video? To the extent that's within the budget I feel like that could really help with the burnout aspect.

Markus D

I think that IRL, most sword fighters probably WEREN'T cleverly insulting their opponents, but rather that it's a very old theatre trope to show that someone is both witty and skilled with a sword. Stage combat is VERY different from real combat, including a lot of flourishes and sword-on-sword hitting that leaves time for dialogue while in real life duels you're trying to actually aim for the person and find an opening, so mental focus was probably not on things like getting in fun insults.

Markus D

I don't really understand why you're so upset about that. Also the whole thing she's bothered by is like... It just feels kind of corporate and just for merchandising, and otherwise playing on how Disney tries to lazily "upend" it's old tropes, but does it by negatively generalizing their older characters.

ts_babyjane

is it deranged that i know you saw cruella on your first trip to evermore because i listened to the yourmoviesucks podcast you did about it while i was at my 2021 job. lol, i track my time in videos… which is weird, but you released your first evermore preview video a few months later, because i remember where i was when i first watched that.

Daniel Metrejean

can finally die happy knowing the backstory and lore to the caricature villain in that old animated puppy movie

Emily Lewis

The best Cyrano adaptation is the DCOM “Let It Shine”

Amélie Roubert

btw the ramble is available in France, so I guess it's available in Europe as well ?

Paige Vermeulen

I think you should end every patreon video with a dejected ‘yay’. I enjoyed it

KaylaLeigh025

I'm new to your Patreon and binging all the videos. I'm so glad to hear you talk about how bad the movie Cyrano was 🤣 I watched it around the same time I stumbled on your YouTube channel and just had a feeling you would appreciate how bad this particular movie is lol.

Ky

I was astonished to find out it has a pretty high rotten tomatoes score and is generally consider good...wow

maudlin.lauryn

I was trying to think of why the Love Again plot sounded so familiar and then I realized that it's directly taken from the German movie SMS für Dich! Tonally dissonant bus accident and all! So if you would like the same movie but in German ... that exists.

Liam

i think a scene that does the whole giving yourself permission to love again after losing a partner way better is from how i met your mother weirdly. not ted running off to be with robin but a scene where the mother is having a conversation with her dead husband but he’s not actually there. she’s just talking and telling him wherever he is that she thinks she’s going to move on but she still loves him and will never stop. i don’t think it’s the best show but i think that scene was really well done

Mae B

The blue corn moon shirt is a reference to the song Colors of the Wind. There's a line where Pocahontas songs "Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon?" It's not a real native American concept but was meant as a nod to a similar name for a time of year from a poem.

Skylin.

She knows that she just thinks its ridiculous for Pocahontas to wear a shirt that says that. Lol.

well anyway

It's very relatable that Jenny also struggles over the finer points of her work product even though she's clearly putting out quality content from a practiced hand

Al

But like... as Jenny points out, some of their original outfits ARE already comfortable. They're not all just wearing vaguely european medieval corsetry. Like Moana is in there and her outfit is like the height of comfort and functionality.

Victor

It's great! Also it reviewed well, it was just largely ignored by the public

Victor

It's pretty great, actually.

Rob Haarstad

Y'know Cyrano really connected with me, which is strange since I don't really like musicals. There was a time in my life long ago when I had a crush on a friend, and she would tell me about her own crush on someone else. There was a part of me that really wanted to tell her how I felt but didn't since they weren't mutual so I never did. It wasn't a good feeling. I saw myself back then in Cyrano's shoes since he finally had an outlet for expressing his love for Roxanne through the letters. I like the movie but it makes me feel really conflicted especially when it comes to Roxanne's character. She greaves for Christian for years but she didn't really know him, then when she finds out her true love is Cyrano he immediately dies, reopening those wounds again. I don't know. I loved Game of Thrones and really like Peter Dinklange and I thought he did a great job in this movie. There's a tiny heartbreaking piece of acting he does about half way through the movie. Christian just flubbed his date with Roxanne so he and Cyrano go to Roxanne's house where she's on the balcony. Cyrano is feeding Christian lines but he still isn't doing a good job so Cyrano sings "Overcome" which Roxanne eventually joins into a duet. The song ends with Roxanne singing "Tell me what to do" and Christian yells "Kiss me!" Roxanne agrees to a kiss, but before Christian goes to her (and the little moment I love) Cyrano adjusts Christian's jacket and smooth out his shirt, again making Christian look good for Roxanne. I'm not as good at explaining things as Jenny clearly, but I am man enough to admit that I really liked most of the soundtrack, so much so that when I got my Spotify Wrapped (your end of the year summary) I was in the top 0.1% of listeners of that album lol

Jenna

#releasetheoldladycut

Kevin William Walker

Haha as a slightly-guilty pleasure HIMYM fan I was actually going to say the exact opposite - not so much bc the scene is bad, but just bc I always took it the subtext was that her later death was less tragic bc her first and greatest love was already dead/waiting for her in the 2010s humanist afterlife, which, like... ok. Weird thing to tell your kids about their mother. I do actually get all the life-goes-on feels for the Robin/Red Balloon scene. Come to think of it I think Cobie Smulders was also in a movie where she is a ghost helping her widow move on...

The Heirs Of History

Thank you finally someone talks about Cyrano! I do believe it's the worst major picture I've ever seen and i don't hear enough about it

Mitch Benn

The “benefit” that Cyrano hopes to derive by writing the letters for Christian is that if Christian can win Roxanne’s love with HIS poetry then Cyrano will know he COULD have won her himself if he hadn’t been so ugly. Still pretty misogynist in that Roxanne functions solely as a “prize” to be won…

Mitch Benn

Well that’s the plan in Rostand’s original play anyway; haven’t seen the Dinklage movie yet

Rel Dregovich

I'm sorry, did you say you haven't watched ET?

Aiden Jones

Im so freaking hyped for your Five Nights at Freddy’s takes

Louise Blancardi

I'm so glad to knpw you think the Cyrano movie is bad, as a French person it's unbearable how bad of an adaptation it is. The writing of the original play is so smart and this was such a let down.

Louise Blancardi

You def should read or watch the original play if you enjoyed the story, it's so beautiful. That movie doesn't do it justice !

Bradley

It's a bit of a sad recommendation since it's not really available anywhere, but Kaito Saint Tail is the best thing ever created by humans ever. It's like Now You See Me, but if it was a magical girl anime and if Morgan Freeman was the main character's child detective love interest (He has a special badge from the mayor - it says 'S' on it for 'Special', because he is a very special boy), and it's WILD. Her "magic tricks" include, like, hijacking the city's power grid or summoning a clone army of virtually identical quote-unquote "balloon" duplicates that run about to distract the cops. She learns about her heists because she is friends with a nun who breaks her vow to feed her info she got from confessionals - not from the criminals, but from their victims, who I guess are, like... confessing that they had a crime DONE to them, which isn't how confessionals work, but go off, I guess.

Wow that part with the Cyrano Rap actually shook me to my core. I've heard of the movie but haven't seen it, I just thought, "Oh that looks like a great movie, I bet I'll really like it. It looks pretty sad though, so I'll watch it eventually." Finding out through a Jenny Nicholson Patreon video that the lyrics are actually so cringe is crazy. Why does everyone think they can just whip out a movie musical like it's nothing? Reminds me of Disney's Wish, and how they tried to imitate Lin Manuel Miranda's wordy rap style and ended up with some incredibly awkward cadences.

Diane Harten

Also re: Cyrano's nose, that was actually Dinklage's choice, interestingly enough. I read an interview where he talks about forgoing the prosthetic nose because he felt that wouldn't have been as authentic. But that still makes it weird when they call him ugly in the film, when that doesn't match what the audience is seeing. He's done other roles like this too, actually. Like in Game of Thrones, Tyrion is described in the books as being uncannily ugly. But they did the smart thing by removing that angle the show, and just making it about the ableism he faces, so there isn't that distracting dissonance to it.

Mr. Samuel Scratch

I do think "Fast & Furious but with magicians" is a dynamite concept for a big, dumb action franchise, but requiring your characters and narrator to be smug pricks might be the biggest misjudgement I've ever seen. Part of what makes the dumb action of Fast & Furious so endearing is how genuinely it's presented, they're NEVER winking at the camera about how cool and effortless it all is.

Kelly Evans

Yeah but it would be weird if they weren't all in the same type of outfits. Idk I'm not super passionate about it I just don't mind girls wearing baggy ass sleepwear

Kelly Evans

Sure but its also a common thing now. We wear giant shirts and pants and put comfort first. Just feels relatable. I don't disagree w any of her other points and im not upset I promise

Kelly Evans

Also, are you a woman? A halter bandeau is not comfortable. Wearing skirts means constantly arranging your body in a certain way, not bending over or sitting cross legged etc. Idk as a fat girl w big tits and ass it does not look comfortable. But I also hate wearing clothes and would never sleep in anything but a giant shirt

Kelly Evans

None of their outfits are lounge worthy. Why wear your daily outfit when youre just sitting around inside. Seems wasteful. Idk maybe they wrote it that way for 2 reasons. Most people cannot afford to buy that stuff from Disney anyways. They're going to Walmart lol

With Quiet Eyes

I went into it wanting SO badly to like it, because I watched the Depardieu version several times growing up (it was one of our Field Trip Movies at school) and I always loved the dialogue, plus its Peter freaking Dinklage, and then it was just ... Agh

Madeleine

The Pizza Hut thing made me die laughing. Also I unironically love the now you see me movie. I feel like people don’t talk enough about how epic the score is and how fantastic it all feels. Like it’s the one movie where the weird illuminati feels campy and fun instead of just another tired action trope. They tried to make nerds into action vigilantes and I can’t get enough of it.

Erica McMillan

Here I am necroposting in July but I need to know all about Jenny’s eyeshadow here pls and thank you

Jenny Nicholson

For a while I was just using my blush on my lid but it might also be Too Faced peach palette! Most of my eyeshadow is Too Faced nobody does it like them (pat McGrath is also good but $$$, but the minis last a long time)

Kit

Okay this might sound dumb to say but I did go on Oh My Disney as like a middle schooler obsessed with Buzzfeed and earlier this week I was racking my brain trying to remember what that site was called, so thank you Jenny for talking about weird internet product placement I completely forgot about.

Sophie!

insanely excited for the fnaf video

Firiel Gardner

So I actually really really like Cyrano de Bergerac (fully admit no one is acting like a good human, there's definitely more than a smack of incel fantasy about it, but what can I say I LOVE the dialogue it's beautiful and I'm a sucker for tragic deaths) and I am SO glad I didn't go see Cyrano in theaters 😂😭 When I saw the trailer I was like "😬 this.... does not look good" but the rap I HAD NO IDEA WHY THE RAP. Gonna have to have a watch party for this one with all my sisters, I'm thinking.

S. Marie Leigh

Ok I just joined your Patreon so I’m watching all the amazing backlog of videos. I have to say I agree with the princess scene in Wreck it Ralph 2 but also before that there were some VERY popular web comics of the princesses hanging out together and/or wearing modern clothes. I feel like Disney saw those and said, “Oo this will make money, put that in something for all the people who like it,” but they didn’t want to make a movie of that and instead just forced it into Wreck it Ralph 2. Which by the time it came out those weren’t even as popular anymore. I’ve never heard anyone talk about that and the fact no one has said anything about that comparison irrationally bothers me because it seems pretty blatant to me. Anyway, great video as always! :)

Kit

Honestly they should’ve just created a short film around the time when they were still popular to capitalize off of the trend. Like I know it still maybe would’ve came out when the trend was dying because animation takes time but it would’ve been less outdated by then.

Bryce Zubriski

Just signed up for the Patreon and going through the backlog. Love Again not showing the bus accident is an immediate thumbs down. I love a good shot of a character getting hit by a car (Meet Joe Black for the win). Also, is it just me or does even James Marsden look uncomfortable when Sonic calls him Dad?

Tee-Jay

How is "They shit themselves and die" an actual lyric in a musical film

Hannah Gs

My favorite part of the playing card scene is that they keep passing the card to the next person about to be frisked. WHY??? only one person had to hide it. They made it so much harder on themselves.

Angel Quintana

That Cyrano Simpsons quip is so funny. Director! Someone finally bought a copy of the film!

Danielle Schatten

Ok admittedly I do differ from Jenny in that I love the original play Cyrano de Bergerac but jfc was that fucking movie written by Lin Manuel Miranda lmaooo

Danielle Schatten

Yeah, but it does also depend on how one views the play itself as it is read/performed by its actors, and the version of the translation from the French you read, so I def would give Jenny grace here. I'm a huge fan of it but understand her aversion.

daphne

I wholly agree that Now you see me is stupid, but it is extremely funny stupid. Maybe it's just because I love magic so much but I've seen it multiple times and revel in how hype it is in its ridiculousness. There's something so charming about how earnest it is in making everything seem super cool and over the top - like the card scene is AMAZING, I was cheering and clapping when you showed it. It's a heist movie but with magicians and a super stacked cast, just wonderful.

em

okay with the cyrano scene, they totally could have done something cool with the rhythm & the fencing, like cover up their mistakes/bad lyrics but they just. didn't. he's like stumbling thru his lines while standing totally still lmao

Kinetics Video

I think it's even more endearing to have nepotism towards your partner and the result is terrible

Small Correction* Annabelle is the only spirit in Annabelle Comes Home that is actually a reference to any of the previous films. All the rest are random non-references that fans do not recognize at all.

anya k

to be fair I’m pretty sure the undertones of the nose thing in cyrano is that he’s jewish so idk if it’s that much worse

anya k

now you see me 2 is my sister’s favourite movie and it’s so bad and so funny. Daniel Radcliffe is the villain, woody harrelson gets an evil twin and a sad backstory, they replace the token female magician with the actress who plays Janis Ian/julia from new girl, mark ruffalo’s character is just there and does not serve the plot in any way shape or form, and there’s this one water trick that’s supposed to be this grand illusion and it’s SO BAD. also personally my highlight is this one song by pharrell that my sister got OBSESSED with but it only played for like 0.2 seconds and she misheard the lyrics so she spent like a month trying to find it and would keep replaying that section of the movie

anya k

what makes it funny to me is that everyone in the movie kind of shits on the Jesse Eisenberg character anyways and he has a stupid name (I think it’s like j. Daniel something) so him being a prick is kind of entertaining (especially because he’s literally a magician)

Kael

Peter Dinklage is such a conventionally attractive man that while prejudice against him is obviously very real, it's still harder to accept him as being unattractive.

Zuni

Well they've just released the trailer of the third movie and it's called Now You Don't!

Jai

Okay so. I have never (to my memory) seen We Sing For Sillyville, but the clip you played here with the frogs?? My mom used to sing that song for me when she helped me brush my teeth as a very small child and I'm kinda reeling because I thought she made it up herself

Neil Dutton

I always want them to cut to the several other guards who can clearly see what's happening but feel bad about spoiling the act.

The Latter Day Autist

I like to think that the mentalist and the wife were working together to shake down the husband. And I always assume this is the explanation for magic tricks I can't otherwise understand - that it's a plant. The handcuff thing, the handcuffs weren't locked. Either the FBI guy hadn't locked them or Zuck had picked them. The movement to transfer the unlocked cuffs was quick, but maybe it would work. But then, the lady cop must have been a plant for the part where the key appears in the can. The deadly playing cards is apparently not as stupid as it looks, though that's not saying much. I've always assumed the scene where they appear to vanish what we are seeing is a projection. That's dumb, but whatever. Finally, I like to think of fiction movies as being dramatic re-enactments rather than found footage. Then you can suspend your disbelief by saying, yeah, that's not exactly what happened, but they got the jist of it.

The Latter Day Autist

An ex-girlfriend and I went to this close-up magic show in Chicago. One of the tricks, the guy had this deck of cards with rubber bands around it. He had us toss it around the room. Each person thumb a card, look at it, remember it. Seven of us. Then, everybody stood up. He rattled off seven cards, and then told everyone to sit down if their card had been rattled off. So, obviously, the deck only had those seven cards. A mix of 52 total cards with those seven values. My ex had broken the rules - instead of thumbing to just one card, she thumbed through the deck looking for the card she wanted. So it's a pretty easy trick to foil. Not one of his best tricks. I think he only did one trick that really stumped us.

Danielle Schatten

crying imagining doing this at a showing of Daddy Day Care

Danielle Schatten

do you know how scared i was 3/4 of the way through that do you KNOW-

Danielle Schatten

i think its normal for james marsden because he looked like that when i called him dad too

a.s.

the cruella monologue is delivered in the EXACT same way as the stupid villain's explanation monologue from that evermore video where everyone is standing around in front of the big pumpkins, the affectation is truly identical. plz someone validate this

Catherine H.

Wait wait wait you are so onto something

Em Bee

I got to that point in the video and had the exact same thought, 100%

Yana - hi

(Old comment, I know) The real Cyrano de Bergerac just had a really big nose

Hannah R

The funniest part to me about the Sonic scene is that he’s voiced by Ben Schwartz and so not only does he *sound* like a man Ben Schwartz’s age, you also can like, picture recognizable actor and grown man Ben Schwartz emotionally calling James Marsden his dad in the recording booth. He’s enough of a public figure that you just know what he looks like and can picture the recording. This isn’t an indictment on his casting, I think he’s really good as sonic, it’s just this one scene lol

sunsquid -- naya ☆☆

The Cyrano rap scene just makes me want to watch the objectively better version of that section in Let it Shine lmao

Bec Benepla

Rewatching this one and was struck by the “sir when I was born the nurses laughed hysterically” line cuz like hes a little person…he was normal baby sized as a baby…
