Hello my friends!

Here's the project I was talking to you about a few days ago, and on which I need your input!

The primary goal of this project was to create a "knitted" texture that was easy to paint in the slicer.

Most of these textures are usually created in surface 3D software. Which often leaves poorly defined areas when comes the time to paint the model in the slicer.

So what I did was to create a complete texture in my parametric 3d solid software. Which means that each stitch of the knitting is in fact a well-defined solid.

The whole thing is very tedious and takes a lot of time. So I don't think I'll be using this technique again in the near future but I had to try. And I still learned a lot during this test.

Where I have a problem is with the print itself! I think my filament is wet and that's causing me a problem at the tip, at the base of each stitch. Like an under extrusion effect.

So I want to know if you are having the same problem or if everything is going well on your side.

So go ahead, test it out and let me know what your results are.

Since I use a lot of filaments for my designs, I don't have time to dry them all and I strongly believe that my problem is due to the humidity in spring. But I need confirmation!

In the photos there are examples of designs that can be made with the painting tool, but feel free to try whatever you want!

Have fun, test the settings and keep me informed.

Pascal

(PS; I will make an update tomorrow with the list of filaments i have used)

Love! Thank you

The design looks so simple, but we never realize the effort it takes to make a workable design for some of these creations! Thanks for the details about your design adventure and sharing with us!!

I printed it and it worked for me. Looks great!

Worked great for me as well. Printed in .2mm just to make it faster as a test. Do you have any artifacts on the inside wall? I can see/feel the pattern all along the inside walls on mine. Could just be some slight overextrusion with my filament? I'm using 3 walls, inner/outer/inner. Maybe I'll print another doing outer/inner and see if that helps. But then the seam would be much more noticeable. Not like I care how the inside of a box looks, but always good to know why it's doing something that it probably shouldn't.

I printed 3 on my my Prusa MK4, with PolyTerra PLA in Fall (a gradient yellow orange) and they look fabulous. No issues at all. (but super long print times, even with the input shaper on.)

I can see and feel the pattern a little, but wouldn't really have thought about it if I didn't read your comment. It is just fine (but a bit of a slow print due to the texture).

Great! I'm so happy to read that!!! 😁

Thanks for the feedback! I was seriously wondering if it was the model or tha filament. Now i know! 😁

Love these. Print great, everything fits together perfectly, and they look so nice.
