Hello fellow makers!

I am stopping you right there! ✋ I know this is a nice post to say "that's not food safe bro!!!" but there's a good reason why i made this design. 😅

My mother has a huge collection of salt and pepper shakers, over 400 of them, and i made those ones especially for her, for Halloween.

Food safe issues or not?... I think like many people that, for dry and slightly perishable ingredients, the safety problem is less applicable than for ingredients of other types.

Regarding the chemicals in the filament, they are often released only when the filament is heated. So only the porosity of the print remains as a problem, and as I said for "dry ingredients" it doesn't bother me too much.

But beware, this is only my opinion. And not calculated facts.

However, having created the model and this one being pretty cool in my opinion, I thought you would like to have it too.

Again, this model is totally support free and the print is relatively easy. Watch your flow and temperature. I printed them with some old filament, not dry at all 😅 and the results are pretty good in my opinion. So i guess you won't have any problem with this one.

The text is a bit tricky, you will need to check your speed and make sure you don't have stringing between the letters. My first try was terrible looking, and even with a lot of patience it was impossible to clean the letters correctly.

I have another version, with bigger dates/text. But i prefer this one. If you think it could be useful to have the text bigger, just tell me and i will add the files to the project.

There's no instructions regarding this project. Print one of each tombstones, two screw caps and one base. That's it.

The one for the salt has a single hole while the pepper has 4. So you can print both tombstones in the same color if you want like i did, or you can choose a darker color for the pepper if you prefer. The inscriptions on the front are also different.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Have fun my friends!

From what I've read that's a "yes and no". The biggest problem with "food safe" and fdm printing is the layer lines and seaming create a not smooth surface that's very hard to clean allowing bacteria to build and breed. As PA stated for dry foods/storage should be all good. Long term, not sure if there is any off gassing, leaching taking place. I have not done the deeper research so again, YMMV,

Hello Kiara! Not all the pla are food safe. Yes, PLA is a food safe material at first sight, but the problem is all the additives for the colors and others chemicals to help with 3d printing. Some are rated food safe, but again, the other problem is the porosity of the print and the way 3d printing is done. The tiny cracks between each layers is the main problem. Food will get stuck inside them. But i am less concerned with dry ingredients like i said, because they don't tend to roth like other ingredients.

Hello Max. It is not supposed to... I didnt have cracks on mine. I will try to have a look at that. ;) Thanks for notifying me. ;)
