Hello wonderful friends!

I am very proud to present you today the first birdhouse of 2024, The Saloon!

Cute details like bullet holes on the front and the wagon wheel on the porch are there to add more character to this little saloon.

The design is very simple and easy to print/assemble. Most caracteristics of the precedent birdhouses are there, but there's a few minor differences.

The only thing i strongly recommend is to put at least 4 walls on the parts (7 for the rear stand) and to put a brim on the saloon main part. Its a huge part, and you may have noticed on the picture, i had a bit of warping in the front near the corners. So use a brim to prevent any lifting.

I have used the same features you can find on the last birdhouse of 2023 (The surf shop) which are:

-100% support free

-Detailed and easy instructions in the form of exploded views.

-Individual parts for a nice, colorful print without the need of a special printer.

-Color Coded filenames for references and grouping parts together.

-Printable on a small printer (180x180) like the Prusa Mini.

-Also printable on a bigger printer with the instructions below.

-Complete 3mf files for the Bambulab enthusiasts

THINGS ADDED TO THE BIRDHOUSE DESIGNS:

-Draining holes at the back

-Rear ventilation hole, near the roof.

-You can use the same support now with two different sizes of birdhouses! Yep you read correctly! Two sizes, one support. Thanks to the multiple mounting holes on the bottom door.

If you use the birdhouse in its actual size (Prusa mini size), you just print all the stuff as it is.

If you want a bigger birdhouse, print everything at 133%, EXCEPT FOR THE SUPPORT. Keep it as it is.

You will notice two patterns of mounting holes on the bottom door. The smaller pattern, in the middle, will give the exact same pattern/hole sizes as the big one once it is scaled at 133%. So this is where you're gonna mount your support once the bigger birdhouse is done. No need for a bigger support, so both models can be installed on the same type of support.

The only thing: You will have to replace the (4x) M3x6mm screws to hold the door in place with (4x) M4x8mm instead.

The screws to mount the support on the door will stay the same (M4x10 OR 12mm), same has we use usually.

INFO REGARDING MULTICOLOR PARTS:

Some parts of this project have more than one color. YOU DON'T NEED A MULTICOLOR PRINTER! They ALL can be printed with simple color changes on any regular printer. The color are indicated in the file names.Again, If you are not familiar with color changes, don't be shy to send me a message. I will be pleased to help you as usual. Its very easy to do, and you don't need a special printer to do that.

REMEMBER: Always follow the instructions and make dry fit checks (without glue) to see how the parts are glued together.

Have a great day my friends and Happy Printing!!!

I love this one! Going to have to make it for my in laws

Rick Sollis

Pascal, what type of filament do you recommend for the bird houses?

Adam Jones

What an awesome addition to the birdhouse collection!! I can't wait to get this one printed up!!!! Thanks for all the work you put into the details for this birdhouse!! Your efforts are always appreciated!!!!

Christian Wilson

Bird houses need to be cleaned out annually to get rid of bugs and droppings. Is there a way to clean out your bird houses?

PA1 MAKER

A lot of people make them in ABS or ASA, but i found that a good quality PLA+ is totally fine for them. One important thing to remember: Birdhouses shall never be exposed to hot/direct sun. Orientation is very important, and a birdhouse shall be placed in a shady area with direct sun only in the morning. Most of the time, the entrance will face east or north/east. 😉

PA1 MAKER

Hello Christian! 🙂 All my birdhouses have a large access door at the bottom for seasonal cleaning. 😊

Tim Belton

LOVE This! Thx Pascal

Darknynja

This is absolutely fantastic! You have out done yourself again.

Darknynja

I have been printing his bird houses for a couple of years now and the ones I printed using PLA have held up just as good as ASA and ABS. The only thing I do to them is coat the outside with a clear UV protectant paint. I've also printed over 25 bird feeders and did the same thing. Several have been in direct sunlight every day for over a year without any fading or warping.

Rick Sollis

Do you have a uv protectant you could recommend? Thank your for the feedback!

Rick Sollis

I'm going back on forth on what to charge for the bird houses. What have you found to be a sweet spot in terms of selling them?

Tamira

amazing !!

Mattis Matters and More

This is an amazing print... I did add however, 3 x 5mm drain holes in the back of the flat roof... I guess the roof could double as a birdbath if it rained...lol..

I just love your designs! I have been brewing around an idea (just for myself, not looking to start a business out of this or anything!) and wondered if you had any advice for someone wanting to build something like this? I can figure out tinker cad or fusion… and I know sorta what I want to build in my head.. but I have no idea where to start to ensure that everything fits together! I work at a lovely little quilt shop and I would love to make a birdhouse that is inspired by it! ❤️

Amazing design! Just wondering what type of filament is suitable for printing birdhouse for outdoor usage? I heard that PLA is not strong enough for outdoor. Thanks!

Same here. The new software cuts half my sizes of the height of my mechanic. Been saying I'm going to watch youtube just haven't. I believe you have to pay for the best software to be able to do 3d images. My laptop has a problem that come with it might play with it haven't even tried it so it might right.

This will only be the 2nd print I do on my new P1S!! So excited for this! :)

Torita Byrd

your designs are amazing and thanks to you i now know how to do a color change

nicky Thibodeaux

I love you're bird houses and feeders going to have everyone of them in my yard. Just wish the holes was a little bigger for middle sizes birds

Pete Vellenga

Does everyone print these in ASA?

Pete Vellenga

Oh another question what filament are the saloon doors made with. I like that color but I cannot seem to find it. TIA!

Tiffany Madsen

I have a question: I absolutely adore this birdhouse and would love to add one to our backyard. The Mountain Bluebird is what we have most of and they require a 7in drop from hole to base. Is there a possible way to add some inches under the hole to the base without messing with any of the fun details?? I would love to make this a functional house and not just decorative. Also, what birds are in your area that you design these amazing houses for?? We love them and your work is PHENOMENAL!!

Andrew

Only issue i have with this is when sliced with .4mm nozzle, the windows/doorway show up hollow without a backing. Can the windows /door still be glued in this way?

Andrew

petg here

Darknynja

May be a little late to voice my concerns about the roof of this bird house because I've already glued it in place but, I wanted to get your opinion on it. Do you think it may eventually become an issue that the roof is flat and has sides on it that may hold water? I seal all my bird houses and feeders with a clear UV resistant coating, and I've never had any issues with water or sun or heat but, this one concerns me. Any thoughts?

Natalie Johnson

Hello! Could I ask what UV sealant product you use? I'm finding lots of options but don't know what's best. Thanks in advance :)

Darknynja

I’m not at home so I can’t tell you exactly which one I use. I do t know where in the world you are but the clear uv spray I use came from Lowe’s. Amazon has it too. Just look for clear outdoor uv protectant spray. The last one I purchased was made for plastic outdoor furniture. Hope this helps. I have some feeders and bird houses that have been outside year round for over two years without any fading. They are all made using PLA pro.

Pete Vellenga

Hey can anyone tell me what brand of filament and color that the wagon wheel and the saloon doors are? I can seem to find anything I like that is close to that in color. Thanks!

Russell Sellars
