This was such a rewarding experience. This summer, we got to spend an entire day with World War Two veterans. I learned so much from them. I encourage you to speak to a World War Two veteran as well if you have the opportunity. As I said in the video, time is running out. The last WWII vet will be gone within 15 years.

Thanks to the wonderful folks at Memoirs of World War Two for collaborating with me for this video, especially Hudson. He was just awesome to work with. Be sure to check out and subscribe to their channel.

Thank you for your continued support of this channel.

But the vast majority of folks who experienced World War Two, firsthand, are now dead. Around 70 million people fought in World War Two. Less than 75,000 of them are still around today. The youngest World War Two veterans today are in their late 90s. Based on current estimates, nearly all of them will be dead by the year 2040. I was extremely fortunate to spend some time with two of them. Wilbur Grisham served as a medic in the Pacific Theater of the war. Marvin Blakeman served with the 83rd Infantry Division in the European Theater of the war. He landed at Normandy and saw combat as he marched through France, eventually fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. I also was extremely fortunate to spend the day with Hudson, who works with the channel Memoirs of World War Two. The folks at the channel travel to as many places as they can to interview and honor the few surviving World War Two veterans left. These veterans have not only important stories to share, but fascinating stories. And because they are PERSONAL stories, they capture what history books often can’t. And the videos are incredibly well produced. The channel is a gem. Check it out. #wwii #wwiiveterans #ww2veteran

It’s sad and makes you reflect doesn’t it? A couple months ago I remarked to a friend I hadn’t seen a WW2 or Korean War Vet in public in at least a couple years. It’s so sad that we are truly losing that direct link to such a pivotal moment in world history. I’m glad you and many others are capturing their stories. It’s all we will have left soon.

Matt Beat

So true. Even if we can at least get out our phones and record our conversations with them that way, I think it's incredibly important to help preserve their legacies.

Daniel Kolbin

Quite insightful. Wish we could do more for them, as well as being careful to never be so detached from the past that we repeat the same mistakes

Matt Beat

The best we can do is preserve their legacy and continue to share the lessons they learned.

Adam Christians

We should all salute those who have been in brutal combat!

I really like this one for different reasons. It is not sufficient to be a critical thinking Skeptic; you also have to put on your Humanist hat... Dig it, Mr. Beat.

Thank you for doing this, Matt... My father was a WW2 vet - a paratrooper who 'missed' D-Day because of a badly broken leg during training in late 1944 - but his brother whom I never met died in the Pacific in 1942. My dad passed in 2008 at 95 but was particularly old (29) when he joined up in Jan 42 right after Pearl Harbor. We should be thankful for their courage, one and all, and should never forget them...

Bro, I cried :') What a good video and a noble cause.

This is unrelated to this particular video, but in general I wish you would clarify ahead of time on videos whether or not you'll get to the superchats. Certain streams, like the last one with Mr. Lichtman, had tons of donations, but you never got around to them. It just seems like superchats are now kind of like a random crapshoot as to whether or not they'll get answered, and I don't think that's a fair, reliable policy. Don't mean to disparage the channel; you're doing an incredible job, man.

Matt Beat

I usually announce it if I'll be responding to Super chats. I forgot to announce that I wasn't for that stream. I guess I was just nervous talking to Allan. 😓 uh but yeah thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'm sorry if I hurt you. I'll be better in the future.

Matt Beat

Did you have a specific question you wanted me to answer? I can at least answer it here.

Jack L

Haha no no it's cool. I think my first post was poorly phrased and made it look like I was like I was more bothered than I actually was.
