So I just threw this video together today after being frustrated with how poorly my Delhi/Mumbai video is doing.

The Fall of Kabul and The Fall of Saigon Compared #shorts

Mr. Beat compares and contrasts the Fall of Kabul and the Fall of Saigon. We are living in historic times (pretty much as always). A lot of folks are understandably comparing the Fall of Saigon to the Fall of Kabul The Fall of Saigon refers to the capture of Saigon, the South Vietnamese capital, on April 30, 1975 by North Vietnam at the end of the Vietnam War. The Fall of Kabul refers to the capture of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, by Taliban forces on August 15, 2021. Here are four quick similarities and three one difference between the two Similarity #1 Both are ending the two longest wars in American history, The Vietnam War, and War in Afghanistan. Similarity #2 The United States and allies didn’t see the falls of Saigon and Kabul happening so quickly. Similarity #3 We saw and have seen in both panic and chaos as Americans and American allies attempted and have attempted to flee. Similarity #4 Those left in Saigon in 1975 and Kabul in 2021 feared for their lives. Difference #1 It has been much more difficult to get Americans and American allies out of Kabul than it was Saigon for various logistical reasons. There is still a lot to unfold in Afghanistan, but it’s already apparent that history is not repeating, but once again rhyming.

Why do you say the other video is going poorly?

Raquell Jones

Ugh! I thought it was interesting and I was glad to see something on India 🤷🏽‍♀️

Matt Beat

Well that means a lot. Thank you

Paddy Mac

That's weird that the Mumbai vs Delhi video isn't doing well, I thought it was pretty good. I like the international compare videos

Matt Beat

Well thank you. Maybe in a few hours when most Indians wake up they will watch it? We shall see.

Grant Hughes

For YouTube channels that offer an Indian episode/video, they tend to be some of the channel's highest watched videos. Give it some time. I think a lot of your indian viewers will share it a lot, and I bet it'll grow a lot more in the near future.

Matt Beat

Thanks Grant. I hope you're right!

I have very mixed feelings on this. I wasnt for staying in Afganistan so long i think we should have done our mission and left. but at the same time since being there we got a lot of people putting trust and hope in us that were abandoned by us and thier own military. the girls being captured and inslaved makes me sick to my stomick and makes me think of Isis. we really needed a better plan of getting our people and our allys out.

Matt Beat

I pretty much agree with you. There was no good time to leave, but I felt the Biden administration could have handled it much better, and I think the Trump administration didn't set it up well, either.

Initially, I supported the Afghanistan war and wanted to get Bin Laden. I am glad we got him. However, that itself took almost 10 years! We wasted so much money and lives on a war that was just not winnable. I don’t understand why we couldn’t have left sooner? Hell, we could have left after Bin Laden was taken out, that was the whole point of the war it seems like.. achieving peace and stability in a lot of middle eastern countries like Afghanistan is simply a pipe dream. So much money and lives wasted. Money and lives that are government could have invested in our people via infrastructure spending, better college funding and jobs programs.. I feel bad for the veterans of the the Vietnam war and how poorly they were treated when they came back from the war. I also feel just as bad for the Afghanistan veterans who were used as political pawns and exploited for political gains.

Naterade

Also, George W. Bush seems like he is getting a pass for his handling of the war now a days..

Ralph W. Kelly

Do you think the Afghanistan situation (or foreign policy in general) will be a key point of the 2024 campaigns, or do you think this focus on foreign policy will die down a bit before the election?

Matt Beat

I think it will die down and not be that big of a political issue by 2024 or even 2022.

Gael Guerard

Maybe it's just timing. Right now is the end of summer and Labor Day around the corner. People getting ready for school or last minute vacations.
