Hi friends 👋

Here's my first Mermay of 2019, I thought I'd start with an easy one since I am very bad at drawing backgrounds ! 🐟
I took some picture while drawing yesterday night, so the lighting is bleh (sorry about that).

S t e p  1
I printed out the sketch I did on my iPad and used a light table to draw it again on paper.

S t e p  2
First layer of ink (I had no idea (still have no idea) what I was doing here). I picked cyan for the mermaid and water and magenta for the sun.

S t e p  3
Second layer - I used a darker blue to paint the hair, tail and reflects in water.

S t e p   4
Layer of marker - I added a layer of pastel blue marker on the mermaid and water in the first picture, then added some pink on the sun in the second picture.

S t e p  5
Outlines in dark blue ink

S t e p  6
Added some darker details with a dark blue fineliner (picture taken this morning, that's why the lighting is different (and better)) !

S t e p  7
I added white details with gouache paint.

Close ups :

And here's the picture I will post on Instagram 🌸

The illustration is okay, I didn't expect anything when I started this one because I knew I was bad at drawing and painting backgrounds and creating an atmosphere in general.

T o o l s
- Canson Montval watercolor paper
- Prismacolor pencil to sketch
- Pébéo inks
- Promarkers
- Steadtler triplus fineliner
- Winsor & Newton gouache

That's it for today ! Thank you for your enthusiasm on my latest post, I am so happy you like the Mermay sketches ! 💙

Oh, and hello new patrons !! Thank you for joining us, I hope you'll like it here ! ✨

Absolutely gorgeous! I love the mood of this. I think you've done a brilliant job with the background. You can just feel the heat of the sun radiating and the coolness of the water! Love the details on the rocks✨
