Hello Patrons ! 🌞

How have you been ?

Etchr Lab sent me a pad of hot press watercolor paper that I received yesterday, so I thought I'd give it a try with a painting study !
I picked "The Two Crowns" by Sir Franck Dicksee (1900), with a focus on the horse and the lady.

I saved this image in my phone a few months ago and always wanted to try to paint it because I think it's so beautiful - I love how he painted fabric and how everything looks so soft, yet very detailed.

Here's the original painting :

Here's my sketch :

I didn't draw her face correctly - in the original painting, the woman is looking up and her head is slightly tilted towards the horse. I completely failed that angle and went with a side profile but I will definitely try and redraw that face. Because it's so well done !!

Then I outlined the important lines in black acryla gouache :

I painted the whole sketch in pink - I thought it'd look nice if some pink could pop from underneath the second layer of paint !

We can see some pink in the horse face ! Took this from Sophie McPike, who always starts their paintings with a fun background of bright colors.

Some yellow ✨

I really liked building this piece as I went. I changed some details a few times if you look closely, so that it looks more like the original painting.

I didn't finish this study because I thought I spent enough time on it + I really wanted to focus on the girl and her dress ! I also wanted to see if I could paint quicker than usual and add less details than I would usually do !

Details :

My new paint palette by Sugarhouse Ceramics Co ! It's the first time I used it and I think it will be easier to clean because it's coated with a glossy finish 😊 I'll let you know !

I had fun painting this little study, which was my goal : having fun 🌻
I haven't been able to paint a lot lately, it was frustrating. Now that my studio is *almost* finished, I finally have a proper space to paint and work, and it makes me so happy ! I want to paint all day now.

New painting coming soon by the way 🥰 I am going to start working on it today !
I think it could make a lovely print for March... 👀

Thanks again for your support on Patreon !! 💕🌻✨

Hugs,

Sibylline
