(above image is from an 1986 letter from Sailor Sid Diller to Jack Yount)
I'd seen the torso image pop up several times in ephemera in my archives- on Sailor Sid's stationary, aftercare sheets- with no idea where the image originated. Sid wasn't known for his skills as an illustrator, so I'd assumed that he traced it, possibly adding the nipple piercing in for flair.
While sorting today, I rediscovered this business card; I can't say I have any idea who Don "Bo" Britt is/was- if he was a piercer or not - but the artwork on the card is by iconic illustrator BUD and dated 1977. The card dates back to a minimum of 1995 when it came into my possession but could be as old as the original date with Bud's signature, and would seem to be the origin of the torso that Sid was fond of using.
There are a few slight differences, which I'd reckon came from Sid blowing up the original on a Xerox machine and tracing it, but otherwise it's spot on.
The Cliff Raven tattoo, on Emil from the BVI, is unrelated, just a nice backdrop for the card.
One mystery solved- now we just have to find out more about Heavy Hardware!
