Alan is considered by many to be the Patron Saint of body piercing in the UK; having been trained as an artist, he left his position as art teacher to pursue his interest in tattooing and body piercing. Corresponding with Doug Malloy, Jim Ward, and Sailor Sid Diller in the US, he was able to bring contemporary piercing technique and innovation to Europe.
