Dr. Lemes, known for his giant full body squid tattoo (by Don Ed Hardy) was a somewhat controversial figure in 1970s/80s tattoo history; a collector and physician, Lemes wrote the tract Tattoo: Trade Secrets in 1978/9 earning the ire of the tattoo community at large who at the time were very much into the keep it secret, keep it safe mentality.

Of particular interest to us here at Sacred/Occult Vibrations is his claim that he'd paid Ed Hardy several thousand dollars to contribute information to the project, and the mention of a Hardy-Lemes-Preston-Diller-Malone book; the Preston mention would have been his partner at the time (pictured here in the pool with Lemes) and the Diller presumably Sailor Sid, with Mike "Rollo" Malone rounding out the group.

The mention of a Kathy Hildebrand (perhaps Kate Hellenbrand?) as the ex-co-editor of the book has me wondering how much of that collaboration may still exist?
