Just to clear up a minor thing - Athena's dad isn't a cop. I think he was just trying to help the situation as a neighbor. Also, while Chim and Hen are paramedics as well as firefighters, I don't know if there's a specific title assigned to Buck's/Eddie's role. Bobby just sends people where they think they'll be most effective. However, Buck and Eddie are considered partners, the way Chim and Hen are considered partners. Pairing them together like that helps build trust, silent communication, etc.

i will always think ghosts are real in this universe because it wasn’t disputed this episode. i’m with buck, a ghost called 9-1-1. i have mixed feelings on shannon. i do get the circumstances but going no contact with your child for two years is just something i’ll never understand. chris must have been so confused not even getting phone calls from her. i don’t think it makes her irredeemable or whatever but it’s definitely something i have a hard time looking past.

Especially since we get two other examples this episode of how going non-contact can affect the people left behind. Chris is essentially Hen in this situation.

omg i never made that connection but it’s so true. hen’s father walked out on her when she was 9 and we see how distraught she still is over it. chris was 5 when shannon left, that’s old enough to miss her and wonder why she just disappeared.

buck and eddie are considered heavy rescue firefighters, so they'll do the most of the "rescuing", really. especially when it's risky ones. also "stop! leave me alone. why are you trying to hurt me so much?" is unfortunately the constant question when it comes to this show. like there's so much angst ongoing that i wouldn't be surprised to see that comment again. ++ chris is literally sunshine personified.

Tbh she and Eddie are in the same boat with Chris in my eyes Eddie might be more in the red the time away Eddie spent from Chris while in the army likely had the same impact if not worse on Chris

Lisa

oh i blame eddie too but the difference for me is that he never went no contact. when you enlist you have leave even while doing two tours so while he missed a lot of chris’ childhood by being there and then not, i can’t agree that that affected him more than his mother leaving him at 5 for two years and never contacting him after. it’s one thing to leave your husband, shannon had every right to, but to not reach out to your child? it’s something i’ve never been able to understand. and i get that she was there during those five years but that only makes her not reaching out worse to me because she was the parent chris knew better and she just left and never looked back. it’s hard to wrap my mind around. like would she have ever come back on her own? i just don’t know. it’s not about her not being around for two years, it’s about her going no contact for two years.

i love how perceptive you are of the characters in the show, you always have a great understanding of their motivations and feelings! makes me super excited for future episodes :)

Sharon and Eddie are a complicated situation that you will learn more about. They definitely both had periods of being the wrong, but it so happens that Sharons was more recent. They have both spent years as essentially single parents and there is a lot of baggage that is hard to undone. There was also things going on with Sharon's pregnancy, their marrige, the army and both their families that made their situation more complicated than usually, then chris's disability on top of that. If Eddie is supposed to be around Buck's age and we know Christopher is 7, you can do the math. I have mixed feelings about Sharon but demonizing her feels wrong to me
