Question 1 The will-scene between Buck and Eddie is definitely a fan favorite. Throughout the seasons, we get instances showing the fact that people in Buck’s life view him as seeing himself as «invincible»; having a habit of throwing himself into dangerous situations without seeming to give it much thought. In this scene Eddie turns it on it’s head when he points out that Buck sees himself as «expendable» (once again breaking my heart) Do you think that in fact has has been the case this whole time? Question 2 Maddie finally was able to ask for help in this episode. Do you agree with Sue in thinking that there is something deeper going on with what’s wrong with Maddie?

buck being passively suicidal his whole life and having this idea that “if i’m hurt, they’ll love me more”, to then be told he has someone to actually live for with christopher is just so beautiful. because if, god forbid, something did happen to eddie that he couldn’t come back from, buck is absolutely the best person because he understands chris, he lets him be independent and he will never let eddie’s memory die or be tarnished the way eddie’s parents have about shannon (you best believe they’d do the same thing about eddie).

ps; eddie added buck to his will for christopher after only knowing him for a year, and just after they’d reconciled… it feels like he would’ve kept that secret until the worst actually did happen 😂 imagine buck then; dealing with the grief of losing your best friend, finding out you’re now in charge of his son (his fucking HEART), and then going through a possible custody battle with his parents who don’t seem to care that their baby boy is dead, and just wanna take their GRANDCHILD away from his home, away from his friends, his family and his buck…

Not really a question but just word vomitting some of my thoughts about the events of this episode. So, I bet after this episode you understand why people suggested to watch it with ep 13, lol - thankfully I didn't have to wait a week when I watched it, however I was almost tempted to say to you to keep ep 14 separate bc it would have been true to most people's experiences watching the show as it aired ajsjs. Curious on your thoughts on them showing everyone with their partners/significant others putting on their bullet proof jackets and cutting to Buck by himself. It always feels... intentional. The will scene is an iconic Buddie moment bc what do you MEAN you put the guy you've known for less than 2 years in your will as the legal guardian of your son??? Not even that, it was maybe a year and a half bc Eddie said he did it after eddie begins and the well incident. The funny thing about Buck and Eddie is they think they're normal best friends but they're absolutely not - like if you compare them to Chimney and Hen? Chimney and Hen are ride or die best friends but not to the same level Buck and Eddie are.

eddie is dating ana at this point and the relationship hasn’t really been too significant, but i think this would have been the perfect opportunity to give them some depth and the writers didn’t do that. they barely had her say a word and didn’t really have them interact at all despite eddie being shot. they could have at least shown her react to eddie waking up but instead they gave all the important moments to buck. do you think that’s for a reason? imo they can’t seem to properly develop these other relationships because they fulfill those roles in each others lives. it’s interesting and frustrating at the same time.

We've talked some about Buck's role as Chris's pseudo-parent, and this episode further cements this idea. A few questions about this: -While it's not unusual for friends to make friends their children's guardian in the event that something would happen to them, Eddie's choice not to tell Buck is weird. Why do you think Eddie stayed silent on this, especially when we know he values Chris above all else? My personal theory is that Eddie doesn't know how to explain or justify the unique role Buck has in their lives -- as his partner and Chris's somewhat coparent -- so he avoids the topic, both with others and himself. -Do you think there's a place for Ana or any woman in Eddie's life to be a true partner and a co-parent to Chris when Eddie would likely never be tempted to change guardianship from Buck to them? Especially now that he's using the guardianship as proof that Buck is not expendable? Follow-up from last episode. Carla told Eddie to "follow his heart, not Christopher's" in reference to Ana. We know that Eddie thinks Chris needs a mother figure, but what do you think following his own heart would mean?

Any thoughts on the parallels between Eddie's/Bobby's shooting and Buck's/Athena's reactions?

Just FYI - There is A LOT of lore to be dropped about the end of S4 in the future. For now, I'll just say that there was a change of showrunner between the end of S4 and the beginning of S5, which changed the direction of certain plotlines. Tim Minear (S1-4) took back over as showrunner (from Kristen Reidel S5-S6) starting in S7 when the show moved from Fox to ABC.

The show really does frame Buck/Eddie differently than Hen/Chim. We've seen Hen and Chim in several near-death situations, and while they obviously care about each other, those incidents aren't framed around each other the way Buck's/Eddie's are. We don't get extended scenes of Hen clawing at the dirt, trying to dig Chim out with her bare hands, and we would probably think it was weird if we did. We don't get Chim with Hen's blood on his face, begging her "stay with me!" It would probably be more like "Hen, stay awake!" with references to Karen and Denny.

yesss i love that they explicitly have taylor tell buck he’s not invincible in this episode and then have eddie reframe it to what it actually is which is buck thinking he’s expendable. it’s not that he thinks he untouchable, it’s that he doesn’t care about his own well being.

Una

Or at least he thinks his own well being is less important than everyone else’s😭

Una

Smart to save THAT lore for after a certain episode, yes😂😭
