Overall (not episode specific) Fun fact - not sure if you are aware of the legal battle this show had before it started. Noah Wyle and the creative team originally considered this show to be a reboot of ER following Wyle’s character Dr. John Carter. Michael Crichton was the creator of ER and is no longer living and his wife did not want The Pitt to be associated with ER. The team for The Pitt pivoted and made adjustments so as not to be tied to ER, but Crichton’s wife still sued. Although The Pitt created Dr. Robby as a very different character than Dr. Carter, us ER fans still love to see him as the same because Carter was such a beloved character. Question: Carter started ER as a 4th year medical student and had amazing mentors. In The Pitt I love Whitaker, who is also a 4th year medical student, and feel his relationship with Dr. Robby is a great mentee/mentor relationship. Do you have a favorite mentee/mentor relationship? Also, would you ever be willing to watch the first episode of ER to see Noah Wyle as a fresh faced medical student?

Episode 6: This show is essentially filmed like theatre in the round, as in the audience has 360 degree view. Crew were made to wear scrubs to blend in to the background when the camera pans out, or cast is moving around delivering lines. The show in general is shot chronologically and as a result a lot of the budget of the show is spent on actors remaining in the ED so we can see them from episode to episode. The triage system explained in this show may seem harsh (evaluate someone in 10 seconds) but it is very realistic. In a mass casualty incident (MCI), resources are stretched thin and hospitals are overwhelmed, we prioritize who we can save with what we have, even if under normal circumstances, we would have the time to focus on one patient and potentially saving them. This MCI is modeled under the real story of the mass shooting that happened in Las Vegas in 2017. Learning from that experience, also allowed emergency staff to implement new protocols (like the snap bracelets and secondary triage to reevaluate). Many of the victims injuries displayed throughout are pulled from that event.
