Thank fuck the spiders were only a small part of this episode, I don't think my arachnophobia can handle much more than that 😭 liked the exploration of the brothers having VERY different perceptions of their childhood, just not the biggest fan of their Dad painted as some kind of victim around it, rather than being the parent in his relationship with his sons.

From what I've seen I really think most of the hate comes from the bug aspect. People who hate bugs say they were grossed out which ruined their enjoyment. And people who don't care about the bugs think it was overall silly and couldn't take it all that seriously. The real meat and potatoes is definitely the expansion on Sam's relationship with John and Dean's perception of it.

I think it's nice (?) In a way that they acknowledged the atrocities done to Indigenous people, though it is a stretch and a half to act as though it was an isolated incident or that it was a rare phenomenon. The entirety of the United States was built on stolen Indigenous land and every single tribe went through the same thing they did in "Oasis Plains". And, as if that weren't enough, they added on some chattel slavery that took centuries to abolish (and even then, as I hope we have all learned by now, slavery isn't gone, it's just changed to fit a more modern narrative). I would argue that all of the US is cursed land, but that would certainly be too big a topic to cover on a random bug related episode in the first half of the first season of any show LOL. I agree that it's better than Hook Man, simply because of the development we have of the Winchesters' family dynamic. I also don't agree that Sam has anything to apologise for, but I'll not say anything else or it might just spoil how you view the Winchesters. I will say, however, that I cannot WAIT for the next episode.
