i survived editing!!!
nah so we had some editing and then cass and i started talking more actively about specific goals and communicating our planning a little more directly. so i've had some radio silence the past couple days where that was still hanging a little more than we felt comfortable continuing to write during...
but like.
the best way to figure stuff out is to just do it.
so even if i have to throw it all out later, i return to the doing of it.
1.2 today. writing across a couple potential event branches, maybe that slows me down? i'm not sure. it's not as if the numbers are the important part anyway.
anyway, i continue to be very grateful for cass. sometimes i can tell that a part of i've written is not nearly as tight as it needs to be, even on a second draft. with some emotional distance, focus, and time to reset, i can put myself in a mindset to look at it properly. but it's just easier to have someone else tell me where what i wrote is stupid. and she and i seem to be pretty on the same page about where that's the case.
think if i say enough nice things about her she won't sass me at the end of this post?
c: like that's gonna stop me
ok, so, she survived editing, but only because i saw a bunch of the shit she wrote and was like "this has to be changed." there's gonna be some ramifications for that--you've seen her word count, and i'd say that most of it is going to need to be altered, if not thrown out.
i get that that's the scary part of editing, but in practice i think the editing is less about the word count/workload and more about properly shaping the game world. work is edited now, it's going to be edited more later, and i think that's just part of the process of getting a feel for the game world and how to best express it.
the emotional side of this is going to be intense. striking a balance between broaching difficult topics and making a game that someone can play without having their soul sucked from them is going to be real hard.
but, like, i think we can do it.
especially if i can keep this shit reined in...
ame and i have some nice complementary skillsets. she figures out what she wants the world to be, i shape it; she sets up the quests/characters/scenarios, i sharpen and polish them.
if you asked me to build something from scratch, i would get lost. give me something that already exists, and i'll go crazy on it. just ask the reborn codebase.
oh, uh, sass. i'm a pretty brutal editor. i left a note on a character effectively saying "this is just titania reborn and we can do better."
