so i dont remember what episode it was, maybe 15 or 16, but somewhat recently i decided that after using one of Glitch's pieces for the title music since like, ever, i didn't want one of her songs that was a canon remix to be the main theme that would be associated with the game. so, i struck it.
but what to replace it with? i didnt have many options that were unique to the game. there was the original Reborn City piano theme that was once the city music for all the wards (now unused but still in game files)-- but it was too morose, and just a single instrument track recording of me playing theme (and honestly, my playing was a bit out of time at parts). eventually i decided on the Opal Ward music. Opal's song was directly based on that original piano theme, and I consider it a digitalization of it, although the tone is much lighter.
But, people weren't really happy with this. I got feedback that it was too tame to be a main theme and aside from that with e16 in particular it was embittering that the title screen still played Black Opal rather than White. I could script in an exception but it's a bit messy... and the other concerns were legitimate anyway. So I decided to just take some time and make a new original theme for the title screen.
Until recently that was placed on the back burner but as lady luck would have it, a composer approached me a couple weeks ago volunteering to do some music for my games. This is kind of his test drive. I asked him to use the original piano theme to make a new theme for the game as a whole, and just a few days ago he sent me the above-linked file to see what I thought.
Well, this is just a very rough first draft, as he said, but still I was impressed. As you listen to it you can find parts where his additions are out of time with the base song, and clearly it doesn't have an ending yet. This was just what he sent me to communicate his general idea.
I spent some time yesterday listening to it closely, taking notes, playing along with it, and eventually playing over and (struggling to do a*) recording over it with some additions and suggestions for improvements and sent it back to him. I suspect we'll see one or two more drafts of this before it's settled-- so in the mean time, I hope you can enjoy hearing how it is as a WIP.
*honestly i was trying -so- hard to get my (music) keyboard to connect to my computer and it just w o u l d n t which is really strange considering that's how i recorded the original piano piece in the first place so ???? but i can never seem to get things like this to work now so basically what i've learned is that midi controllers are dumb and i hate them. eventually i just gave up and used my computer keyboard to record instead but that's sincerely gross ._.;
anyway this sounds nice though
