2010 Era Automatic Quotes (Patreon)

one of the files i found in this mess was as the title says-- a collection of quotes from the online league. based on everything, i think this would have had to be in the december-january range, 2010-2011. a number of things had already happened in the league.

so these quotes-- right? they were styled off of the automatic quotes that in-game leaders display at certain points in battle. when i first designed the online league the idea was that it would be very similar to playing against a leader in any game, but 6v6 and with all the challenge of facing a Real Person. to mimic the experience of playing in a game, and to keep experiences consistent between various challengers, i had all leaders choose and use standardized quotes for each battle. as the league went on over the months we moved away from them more and more, especially since it wasn't like they didn't talk aside from these quotes. we carried them the whole way through but in the end they became a guideline template rather than a format. 

so, here's a list of them all. this was my cheatsheet-- or one saved copy of it, anyway, for when i would have to fill in for the leaders. like-- you know idk if any of you have ever tried to keep 17+ people available at certain times and days of every week without paying them-- but lemme tell you. it ain' practical. people necessarily had times (and a lot of them on the whole) where they couldn't make it. so, i had to replace and roleplay various leaders in their absences, and i made this sheet as a quick copy/pasterino reference for their quotes. 

there are various quotes below-- you'll recognize the timing as inspired by the main series games

• battle start
• rematch start
• first blood (i.e first time pokemon takes a hit-- i think only gen 5 did this?)
• one pokemon left
• last pokemon half hp (im not sure if we always used this?)
• leader loss
• leader win
• rematched leader win

and so, here they are. some of them you may recognize as having been preserved in-game. as for which quote is which ^ thing... *violent shrugging* i hardly remember now so your guess is as good as mine-- but most of them can be pieced together. [things in brackets] are my comments as written today.

Cain

• [cain was an exception. he posted a different song for every single battle, and his quotes were the song's lyrics instead]

Julia

• [PTI was the original name for OTS-- it might still be referenced somewhere in game. the Pokemon Technical Institute is a facility taken right out of the anime-- we see it in a certain episode in kanto where pikachu battles cubone. the idea is that OTS is the colloquial name for the PTI branch in Reborn.]
• KO them once, KO again! You'll never beat us, so let's begin!

Heather

• think you can rise to my level?! well i dont care! its take off time and down you go!
• i have sky high power! i wont back down!

  [this was always said after he got trick room up. he ran two bulky TR-setters so the opponent had to guess which one would use it and try to focus that down. sometimes he had them both use it so that the opponent would seem to guess wrong no matter which they picked. in that case they just had to not stop either from using it. it became #MindGamesForMindBadge. his matches were usually decided during this first turn. TR goes up? challenger goes down.]
