Jasper Ward

pretty much the same as the description, although this was one that i think did not live up to my mental expectations either. it went that direction, but not far enough. i wanted the player to feel like they were getting into somewhere that they shouldn't be able to go at all, but the small size and higher density of trainers undermined that completely.

Malchous Forest Ruins

The line between the City and the Forest is beyond blurred- as one travels further west in Jasper, the trees, debris and fallen structures weave a labyrinth of timber and stone

really not delivered on at all, and lumped into jasper. honestly this whole ward just needed to be much bigger in order to effectively deliver on this.

Lapis Ward

Among the various districts, the Lapis Ward has suffered the least. Nestled on solid ground against the mountains, Lapis is a newly upstanding area of town, perfect for an upper-middle class.

We don't really see any mountain parts of Lapis at all and although it wasn't the original plan I think it would have been great to have the city creeping up onto the mountain. That could have really set it apart from the other wards. Oh well.

Dr. Connal's Orphanage

pretty much correct. we don't see the stadium but allusions to it were added in more recent episodes, so that's okay. oh wait.

Dr. Connal, who runs his clincial practice, and Gym duties out of the same location

that explains why there would be one there-- but lol nope he ain't a leader after all.

Abandoned Gym

A glass green-house gym is left snugly in the corner of the region. Because Dr. Connal chooses to run his gym out of his own building, it has fallen into disuse. Formerly, this was the gym of Shelly.

I had marked a few gyms as abandoned, I think because as I was drawing the map it was with the Season 2 leaders in mind rather than the Season 1 ones, so i imagined the Season 1 ones were gone. I included the locations they would have been like this-- I guess. Then they got used in-game instead.

Beryl Ward

The highest ward in Reborn, and one of the most beautiful- with breath-taking views of the Tourmaline Desert, all of Eastern Reborn, and clear across Azurine Lake, the citizens of Beryl were among the highest class.

welllll lapis became the highest class and beryl just became another residential ward so eh. we got the desert in there at least. a little bit. much of what i said about jasper applies here as well

Rhodocrine Tree

Almost over-night, this massive tree spawned in a place where there had been none before. Bursting right through the concrete, it shot up, its branches piercing and roots upheaving buildings, and tearing apart the landscape. Shortly thereafter it was joined by a number of its lesser counterparts, creating the Rhodochrine Jungle.

super duper did not become a thing in-game. I was originally going to have this tree be the source of the problems in jasper and beryl, and huge roots would sprawl out across the city streets blocking the way. i remember as i was making beryl i decided against doing this because, firstly, that meant spriting those huge tree roots and i wasn't sure i could do that convincingly, and secondly because when i drew this into the map i wasn't really thinking about what kind of pokemon would be behind it. in the end, i couldn't find anything that would do this so i just went with tangrowth again, replacing this.

Rhodocrine Jungle Ruins

Like the Malchous Forest, the Rhodochrine Jungle is entwined with once-marvelous parts of the city, making extremely difficult confusing, sporadic, and difficult terrain. However, where the Malchous Forest was tame, random growth, a vile presnece looms over the Rhodochrine Jungle, directing vines and roots to the places where they might cause the most damage- almost intentionally...

Much more sinister than our current nuzleaf playground. Ours also doesn't feel like a jungle at all. Too small, not interlaced with buildings like on the map... in the end I don't like how this place came out. I think it looks much cooler from the map view and I wish I had stuck to that more closely.

Beryl Cemetary

A young girl is often found visiting her deceased fater here...

haha ;w;

Beryl Bridge

super simple location but accurate enough i guess

Abandoned Power Plant

Across Beryl Bridge is a small cove in the Carnelian Mountains, where Silph CO once operated the plant that fueled the entire city. Though the plant is functional, since the company's erosion, no one exists to operate it- except, it is said, for a rogue spirit with a beastly grin, who keeps the lights out and the shadows in.

so yeah again this switched from silph to Yureyu. i'm a little surprised i had planned shade to be there from the start though.

Abandoned Gym

The former gym of Corey. After his death, Heather occupied the gym for some time before moving to Ametrine City.

not really what happened in game since corey was still alive at the start but "haha ;w;"

Coral Ward

Right at the coast of Azurine Lake, the Coral Ward is the smallest Ward of Reborn, and the lowest class.

peridot became the low class ward instead-- tbh i didnt remember this was supposed to be. i dont think that was a bad change though.

 Coral Pier

is not really a separate location in-game ,, or on the map for that matter.... but okay....... I could have done more with this, sure.

Azurine Region

The Southwest area of the Reborn Region- An area of fire and water. There is little civilisation here, and so it is among the most peaceful areas in Reborn.

im not sure how well i delivered on the fire and water thing-- i mean we have them both but it wasn't really centralized like this. maybe i could've made it more tropical or something.

Azurine Lake

Once a gorgeous clear blue lake, the city's dumping, factory pollution and sewer system have poisoned the lake to be inhabitable for most life- even acidic, and dangerous to cross by boat. Though some foul creatures have taken refugee in the murk, the lake, once a source of life, now provides only death.

pretty much set but what you will notice is the absence of the underwater city. you'll find that a lot of the things that were added conceptually after the map was drawn appear below the surface so we wouldnt see them anyway: such as these ruins, subseven sanctum, 7th st, etc.

Azurine Island

A small, unihabited island in the middle of Azurine Lake. There were rumours of one trainer attempting to re-introduce wild Pokemon to this island...

this basically came about because of the rp headcanons of an old user, Rodaku. the focus was on pokemon reintroduction as is expanded on in E16. it didn't have to be a swamp, but it's just kind of what it became.

Reborn City Sewer System

aka the water treatment center. it may be below the surface like the other things i just mentioned, but that was planned from the start. the same is true for the byxbysion tunnels and the citadel

Pyrous Mountain

Few dare venture up to meet it, but for the students of Apophyll Academy, it's a valuable test, training area, and for some such as the former Fire Gym Leader Cal, a stadium.

well we do fight cal there but there's no stadium. shrug. i dont think it made sense to do it that way-- especially if he was just then getting involved with apophyll academy.maybe there's an arena out of sight or something that he used and then decided to meet his neighbors later.

Apohyll Beach

pretty straight forward. it mentions the beach being dyed grey, but no mention of the stripe pattern. i probably just made that up in development. shrug.

Apophyll Cave

No one is quite sure what's inside...

not much, apparently.

Apophyll Academy

A Training School for advanced students, run by former Fighting Gym Leader Kiki. Among her students are Victoria and Cal.

so i planned for cal to be a student there... but also have an arena there??? idgi. again, kiki was a season 1 leader so she was marked as former.

...hey i just realized i skipped over kiki when i wrote out everyone's name puns. kiki takes a verb similarity to kick for fighting, but more importantly 'ki' refers to the japanese word for spirit.

well, i'll stop there for today. we'll have a part 3 and then probably a part 4. time to get to work.

Were the underwater cities always planned? You mention the Wasteland Tunnels and the WTC having been conceptualized from the beginning, especially since they're mentioned in this thread as their own separate location, but the underwater cities aren't really a new location, nor does the snippet on the lake mention them. Also, potential spoiler territory, but will they serve a purpose to the plot beyond being lore/side-quest location?

Amethyst Liddell and Chasing Selene

oops i missed this, but no that was an example of one of the beneath-the-surface locations that was added in later; it wasn't planned when i was drawing the map. it won't be a story location, just lore/sidequest as you say
