i was pecking around old files yesterday looking to confirm a certain character's nicknames, and i accidentally upon a set of screenshots from what was literally episode 1 of the game's release

keep in mind episode 1 was everything from the start up to beating julia. also you'll notice they're a smaller size-- originally Pokemon Essentials used this screen size to match the GBA but it was updated to a DS size screen in a later release (maybe for episode 2?? maybe 3?) and i had to re-map everything lol ;; the DS size is still used.

they are absolutely  nothing to write home about it, but here they are.

the versus transitions like the above aren't animated like the current ones-- that feature was added by essentials around episode 6 i think. these were just static pictures. despite the lines in the background they didn't whoosh by at all like the current ones -- but these were directly taken from use in the league, unlike the ones used today.

...anyway as you can see it's not like a whole lot has changed, just most things look better.

Wow! That's cool. I mean, there are some obvious differences (Grand Hall interior, and dear god the battle interface GET IT AWAY FROM ME), but overall the exterior maps don't seem terribly different? Which I suppose kind of ties into what you've been talking about in previous posts, in that while things didn't turn out exactly how you hoped/planned, they're still good enough to not warrant completely redoing them. They've stood the test of time! Go Ame! *\o/*

Wish I was here for episode 1. 2012 was around the time of black and white, the game was probabally using assets from like gen 4.
