i feel like i definitely could have posted here for the last past three days but man they have blown me right by so oops, definitely has not been for lack of things being done though.

so things that have been finished:

  • story maps
  • sidequest maps
  • our juice supply... as boyfriend reminds me for the about thirty fifth time tonight, and that is likely not an exaggeration.
  • the first area's maps, by kanaya
  • picking new animators from the applications i requested on the dev blog and it occurs to me i may or may not have mentioned here
cuz the other animator i had picked before got hit with the long log of Life and can't do things

things that have been started:

  • misc updates i've meant to do this episode, mostly minor things
  • story stuff
  • inducting the new animator and showing her the ropes
  • eventing that first area

because apparently i can't focus on an area of development to save my life
what else is new.

things that stopped working and haven't gotten back around to working:

  • my body, as i'm still coughing a lot (but otherwise well!) we'll have a stream again next week probably and hopefully my lungs will function by then
  • the online server, unfortunately. i'll talk about this

so, we're currently having a struggle with PR's online server.
a few days ago, some of you might have noticed that our site went down for a couple hours. this was a planned maintenance by our host that was meant to help them resolve issues on their end relating to the recent Meltdown/Spectre leaks. i definitely should have announced that that was going to be a thing ahead of time since i was well aware it would in advance but i lost track of what date it was oops smh.

still, in theory, this should have been simple. host goes down for an hour or less, they do their stuff, site goes back up soon after and all is well. this actually should have involved no action on my part. for the main site and forums, this was the case (thank god)

for whatever reason, the online server was not so lucky. as the host was updating all servers on their network, it also went offline for a bit and back on. the problem is that in that time, the online server's MySQL database apparently disappeared entirely.
this is incorrect, and a huge problem. the online server has been down since.

so, if you're not tech savvy, MySQL is basically a database platform and a database is a Thing that holds all the Stuff. in this case, it held all users' online accounts along with their IPs and passwords, and a ban list, and it also held all the information needed for wondertrade.
all of this, as well as the structure supporting it, has just vanished entirely after this maintenance.

wondertrade doesn't matter so much, but it would be a pain to rebuild. unfortunately, losing all users' accounts would be pretty awful. we should have kept a back up of this stuff, but, well, haven't. lesson learned, i guess. even then, we'd have to rebuild the SQL system on the server anyway. there's really no excuse for these things being altered by the maintenance in the first place.

so we've currently submitted a support ticket to our host asking them if there's any way they can fix this issue or if it's possible something was messed up that they can restore. until i hear back from them, there's not much i can do. as it is right now, the best case scenario is that they restore the back end and the database and all proceeds as normal. the worst case is that we lose all user accounts and have to take time out of implementing AI to rebuild wondertrade.
so.
that's a trip into the suckbucket.

more on that as that develops.

things i'm going to go do now:

  • work more on story stuff
  • listen to complaints of juice for the 37th time
  • pray for the database
  • cough a lot probably

May the Force be with you and your SQL database, Ame. And may your drinks be plentiful.

i had an idea for an unimportant NPC dialogue in Agate City "When my husband said we'd go to live in good ol' Agate I thought he meant Agate Village in the Orre region, so we could finally get out of the city and have a little bit of calm, but as you can see we moved here instead. Although I DID get some calm, what with the whole city being in a coma for so long. Be careful what you wish for because you might get more than you bargain for, I guess?"
