aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

like i know that victory road is the final test for trainers and all but right now i feel like this is the final test for me for cliff-layer management
hi have i ever talked about how mapping in 3rd gen style is garbage? it's super tedious and constricting, no one has any business making a game using it for seven years, and there's a good chance it's ruined me forever.
but we'll figure that out later.
anyway, managing all the layers and such necessary to carve out victory road is a fucking disaster
and by that i mean it is completely manageable, it's just time-consuming and ridiculous.

just, look at this:

do you have any idea what's going on here with these cliffs?

do you ?????????????

because i sure fucking don't.
and that's only two small pieces of one overarching room/map which needs each cliff end to tie together nicely.

so, in conclusion:
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

that said i've finished that step now and like i said it's not really that difficult just....
just.....
a lot.

there's still a lot more map to do on this map though since this is basically just step, like, 2, complete. using the above two screen areas as an example i suppose i'll keep posting them as the map progresses so you can get sorta step by step with them.

in other news (i wish i could put more than one per row, but alas, scroll away):

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

these are graphics i made a few days ago for some of the upcoming rail things that you can already see traces of above.

one thing i can say in advance about victory road is that it has always been intended to be the mine from which the stone for the crystal keys was first cut and shaped.
after all, no RPG is complete without a mine level, right? though i guess most don't save it for the final dungeon...

anyway this is one map out of 25 ish, ahahaHahahH.hh.....
we be grindin' on these rails like i grindin' on these maps
