[E19 Spoilers] victory takes time + mapping stream 2/27 (Patreon)
Content
so it's been like a week since i started mapping victory road, and i can't say i'm happy with the progress, but as it turns out mapping stuff still takes forever, and the maps i'm starting with are, on the whole, pretty big. 140x 80, 140x 86, 100, x 95... so far...
it's occurring to me only while writing this that with these cave systems that require very involved cliff placement, the time it takes to make a map is not going to be linear with how big the map it is. it'll take longer-- and i a mean longer longer-- to make maps that are bigger because all of the levels of elevation throughout the whole thing need to connect. if i have to change the cliff elevation in one part of it, then, depending on where it is, that may mean i need to go change the entire map. for a large map, planning/connecting all of that properly is the bulk of the time spent.
the second biggest timesink is just the time it takes to put down all of the individual cliff tiles necessary, which when it comes to rows and rows of bending corners, becomes very tedious. but that much is at least normal.
i've gotten to where i'm just kind of passively working on the maps for the better part of each day. for any part that doesn't involve a puzzle, once it's planned i can do it without thinking about it at all. usually i'll just put on an anime and start clicking away as i watch. in that sense, it's also kind of relaxing.
once i get these next one or two rooms out of the way, all of the others should be a little bit smaller, or at least more reasonable, so i can begin to pick up some amount of speed. that's also the part that i would be much more able to stream.
then again, i'll also need to make variants of the current rooms... there's some minor destruction involved. several things will not be making it out of victory road in one piece, including victory road.
anyway, when we last left our heroes i had posted two small shots of the map i was working on before. i finished that map a few days ago, but i took some shots along the way. i'll post section by section including the ones from last time so y'all can see some kind of process.
red boxes, cyan stones, etc are just temporary markings to remind me things for eventing.
previous screen, after cliffs are connected:

finish the cliffs and start layering the colors:

make it look interesting

and finally a minor last minute addition, connecting lines between switches to make it clear what's for what

----
other shot, first screen from before after cliffs:

floor + color layers:

kanaya finishes the boundary cliffs, plus fix some details:

aaaaand prettify:

so like i said, that map is 100% by now, but that's really only the beginning of it all. i'll press ever-onward
and
you can join me!
originally we were going to be streaming rejuvenation M/W/F this upcoming week because cass should have had all of those days off, but as it turns out she will have to work Wednesday after all. So instead, I'll host a private victory road mapping stream for y'all (first one in aaaaaaaaages) at the same time, 4p EST, 9p GMT.
no idea how much i'll do, but please keep me company for it~
