Raine of Veracity ft guest speaker Falcon!! (Patreon)
Content
I believe I first posted Raine's character profile literal years ago but we made some revisions to her design and finally have a full message art for her to use in game! We'll show it by the end, but in the mean time, we have a new guest speaker, Falcon flying into the house to talk through his experience on spear-heading Raine's update and clean art!
We turn it over to him now
########################################################
Ahoi ! Falcon doing art stuff, starting with Raine ~ More specifically, finalizing her design and doing her Message Art !! Still working on combat model but let's talk about this first !!
(I'm terrible with words so I'll do my best)
((note from ame: that part was supposed to be in small text hard to see but patreon doesnt have that feature (im sorry falcon ive failed you) so just pretend like you can barely see it ok))
Finalizing Raine's Design
Let's start from her design then !! For her, my main objective was to make her look more symmetrical first, as well as trying to fix anatomy stuff, didn't want to mess with the design of the character too much, since first wanted to get done with issues like that ~ So first sketch !!
1- First Sketch

So first of all, adjusted her height to around 8 heads tall, and adjusted a lot of the parts in the lower body, the face was done in my art style (something that changes a bit), and yeah ! Not many interesting things since it was just adjusting stuff
There were many things I wanted to adjust, specially that part in the lower body that I was very lazy w- Quickly sketched, since I felt like it was a little too much, tho the crinoline had to stay
2 - Second sketch
And so for the second sketch, I messed more with a lot of shapes, killed the design behind her legs, messed with ribbons and details on the crinoline, added some small designs on her costume, made changes in the front of her hair, many many many things

Very symmetrical, such wow
Many new patterns and stuff, that thankfully the main one stayed in the final design, sketching sure is fun ~ But now it was time to color, so I just went with the ones the character already had, but more like colors I normally use in my art !

Colors !!! Tho while I liked this version, lots of changes were made in the final color sketch, as well as some patterns had to go, but the final color sketch is pretty good ! Colors courtesy of Ame and hewaje who worked really hard ~

####################################################
- Record scratch, back to Ame for a sec. There was a lot of back and forth and trying stuff that took place on the server between those last two images, so let's go ahead and just post some screens of the stuff we tried.
firstly, i wanted to kill the gold and draw attention away from the unimportant details on the bottom, but i found that with the purple and teal the dress started to feel almost iridescent and i loved that:

but i also wanted to emphasize the crinoline. hmmmm....

hewaje suggested turquoise:

trying to reduce other bright colors down there so they aren't competing:
hewaje suggested less saturation:

which was good but i felt there was still so much noise down there in the values. by taking the character into grey scale, we can better see the impression shades give:

tweaks based on value:

by making all of the other elements under her dress darker irrespective of color, it helped us figure out how bright they needed to be with colors put back:

and one last tweak for some color correction to feel more vibrant than just 'dark'

that brings us to the final color set!
one other note before we proceed-- which we'll have to talk about later, is that notice she has a different style of feathery ears! that's a change we've made to [angels as a race] since the demo, star's been updated as well, which we'll show properly later.
anyway, back to falcon now!
#####################################################
As I said they did an amazing work !!
So that's her design finished, how do you all like it ? Definitely happy with it ~ But now the next part, her Message Art !!
Raine's Message Art
1 - Message Art (sketch)
So, for this, Ame instructions ! Pose was going to be pretty much the same, except her folding her arms patiently in front of her, a more professional looking pose ! As well trying to be being consistent with previous arts, that meant having to change her face a little from the previous sketch, as well as having a smoother Line art (since my art usually has a little texture in the LA to make it look a little more traditional, like this) !

So sketch time !!

Sketching is always so much fun ~
2 - Message Art (all the other stuff idk i don't want to make too many sections or it will be too long, i mean it already kind of is)
So, Line art, as the name says, it's art, but lines

Was looking pretty good !! Right ??? I didn't miss anything right ???????
Things looking good definitely, so we moving to color !!

NOTHING WRONG RIGHT ???????????????????
So yeah, when I saw the final color sketch, there was a kinda lil smol detail I may have missed ... Can you spot it ? Because I'm blind
...

But problem fixed
But now, shading, tons of shading !! And not only in the char, but also the line art ~ But first --- Eyes !

New pair of eyes for her, I wish I also got a new pair of eyes too
After a lot of time and shading too, a really fun part - Art done !!

Message Art done ! Or at least the first one, since we still have to do expressions !! Right now she only has her basic normal expression, but she needs another 5 !! Frustrated, sadness, awkward, angry and shy smile, so, sketches for that !!

(Ame note: super secret bonus hidden art which was supposed to be a click surprise but patreon doesnt have spoilers lol......)

when you have to interact with people
And now finished versions !!!

(Ame note: Another secret one im so sorry falcon i told him i could match the formatting but i cant-- i lied-- im a LIAR--)

when
And done !! Pretty fun to work with this as always, it's something I of course enjoy a ton and I feel really happy I can keep working on this, thanks !! If I had to say something that was challenging ... The crinoline, but in the end it turned out good, right ? But next thing I have to work on is her Combat Model, which might take a bit still because of university ... But I'll give it my all on that too !!
There's a lot of stuff I want to do, Starlight aside, like animation (2D and 3D), 3D modelling, coding (fun fact, I'm actually in my last year to be a computer systems engineer !), as well as tons of more things I want to keep doing here, I wonder which character I'll work on next !!! And also understanding more the character models and animations, that sounds fun !
But until then, take care everyone !!
